I had a long bike ride planned today, but I might just do a short one to give my ITB a break

Talking of ITB, I will probably have to drop out of the team. I am at 50% of my running goal and it doesn't look like I will be able to run 90km till the end of the month It just hurts too much to run on it, I just don't want to get it worst and be stuck with it for the entire summer

Definitely take it easy on the bike too. You probably really shouldn't ride unless you are pain free.

At least that is the approach I take. If I can work my trigger points and get them to release, then I go ahead with my exercise plans - release of the trigger points means that the referred pain also goes away. ITB is a classic case of referred pain as the problem areas are really the TFL, gluteus medius and gluteus maximus muscles. Those muscles all merge into the ITB which is a tendon. If they are tight, they pull on the ITB which in turn causes pain on the outside of your knee.

Take it easy and take care of the ITB.  It sucks to have to not run, but it will be better for you in the long run.

I'm sorry that you are hurt!

Are you planning to shut everything down or just the running, or are you just going to scale back on the running? There are always provisions for injury. Tell me what you want to do and we'll see if we can keep you in the challenge.

I will keep doing my bike and swim for the month. As for the running, my plan is to take the week off since I have my first tri ever, then I will finally be a triathlete , next Sunday. After that I will see how the itb will feel. I might restart doing some walk/run after but I can't say yet sadly.

If you want to stay in the challenge, your "injury option" is that you total up the number of days you take off (e.g., 7) and divide that by the days in the month (31) to determine the proportion of your goal to subtract. In your case this comes to 42.9km to subtract from your goal.

So, do you want to drop out or reduce your goal and stay in?

Sorry about the ITB issues Robert My vote is you stay on the team and use the injury reduction. Wouldn't be the same without you
