Expert 4918 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Got in a double today...1200 yards in the pool and some strength work then a lunch bike ride, which was 10 x 30" @ 110/115/120 progression, some ILT work, then 2 x 6' top of sweet spot. Those 6' intervals are tough after you've burned through your glycogen during the preceding efforts. Ravens game on today at 3:40 PM. It's been postponed three times now due to a COVID outbreak but looking like they'll get the game in. Not much hope for my favorites today with a very depleted roster. Oh, well - 2020... Hope everyone is having a good week so far. It's been flying by for me because work is crazy. |

Nice work 1 day off, 2 easy paced runs, and 2 indoor rides so far for me this week. Nothing exciting just ticking along. Swim and ride scheduled for tomorrow before 2 days of long workouts on the weekend. |

Member 3141 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Run threshold test today for me!! 29:38 is where a had to puke. Seriously...but not because I was pushing too hard. I coughed, inhaled spit, coughed more and then had to pause for 17” to vomit just a little bit. In the end, an improvement on my last test (from January 2020). Also, training peaks says I earned 10 top performance metals |

Member 3141 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Hour ride with 35’ steady state high Z2 work. Boring. Later, a 30’ run scheduled. If I’m lucky, the projected sleet/rain/snow mix will move in a little early so I can run in that. One week ago I was grilling in shorts and flip flops. I hate winter. |

The loss could've been worse...I wasn't expecting much either, and it was not the most fun game to watch, but hopefully they clean it up the rest of the season. |

Member 3141 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Big training day of the week here. 1:31 (yes, scheduled for 1:31) on the bike and then a 30' run with some strides afterwards. Overall, both went pretty well, and since it is 50F in December here, it was a pretty nice day to spend some time outside. |

Member 3141 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN DISASTER!! Okay...in the grand scheme of things, this is not really a disaster, but my coach just told me this afternoon that he is "retiring" from coaching--effective immediately. It feels silly, but I am devastated. I was literally *just starting* to make the kind of progress that makes me confident I can finish MiTi under the time limit. I don't even know where to start to build training plan right now. I am looking at new coaches, but geez...they expensive! (I was getting the friends and family rate). Anyone heard anything about Team Trainiac? I have been listening to their podcasts lately and their website makes it seem like a cool idea--training plans plus community, but I don't know. I haven't really ever met anyone who works with them. Other suggestions? |

1940 , Kronobergs lan | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Sorry to hear that Gretchen! Finding the right coach is not easy. Especially if you were getting a good rate! I hope you’ll find someone else that’s right for you. I’m still running 4 times a week, not doing anything else at the moment. Too cold and wet to ride (although technically I could take the mountain bike but I can’t seem to find (make) the time to go for a ride) and I am avoiding gym and pool. Better than nothing I suppose. |

Regular 1774 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Originally posted by drfoodlove DISASTER!! Other suggestions? Sorry that your coach is leaving you. Effective immediately is particularly tough. If you want to do your own thing rather than be coached, I would recommend get, and read one/all of the following of the following: The Triathletes training Bible - Joe Friel Be Iron Fit - Don Fink 80-20 Triathlon - David Warden and Matt Fitzgerald They all take you through the science of how/why/when you do specific workouts. The training bible takes you through planning a 12 month season, and the other 2 have multiple 'canned' plans that if you follow will get you there. Personally I'm a big believer in the mostly easy sometimes hard, and avoid the semi-hard stuff in the middle theory, so am using 80:20. And I'm feeling fitter than I have in a long long time. But if you look over all 3, and chose what you like best I don't think you can go wrong. If you really feel you need a coach I think you can get that through the 80:20 website https://www.8020endurance.com/ Alternatively, If I were you, I would ask around your local tri community and see if you can find someone local that's recommended. I think if I were to pay for a coach, I'd want someone local that can actually attend workouts/group rides etc. in person. good luck! |

Regular 1774 Auckland, North Island | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Last big week for a while done and dusted. a 2 hour run Saturday morning, and a 4 1/2 hour, 108km ride Sunday. Overall for the week S: Zero (sad face) B: x4, (3 zwift) 7 hours 43 min, 189km R: x3, 3 hours 44 min Total of 11 hours 27 minutes. Biggest week in total, most weekly time on the bike, and longest ride (duration and distance) since 2017. I am feeling quite shattered, 3 big weeks in a row is tough. 8-9 hours a week I was doing easy, enjoying that level of training. But 11+ hours is hard. And that's the last big week for a while for me. Baby is due Friday, so I'm going to be going into a do what I can manage when time allows for the next little bit before hopefully getting back into some sort of structure in January in the run up to the 70.3 and of course Ironman. Hope everybody else has had a good week/weekend Edited by bulfrog 2020-12-06 2:34 PM |

I think if I were to pay for a coach, I'd want someone local that can actually attend workouts/group rides etc. in person. good luck! That's a tough one, Gretchen. I've always self-coached using principles from some of the material Andrew mentioned above (Friel has a cycling-specific one, too). There are a bunch of free plans on Trainer Road for members (using one right now), and some relatively inexpensive ones on Training Peaks as well (some with email connection to coaches). There are even some really good ones here on BT. If you're looking for a more personal touch than that, you could jump on The Triathlon Collective Facebook page and ask for recommendations (I think there's a specific sub-site). An old BT-er runs that site and you'd see a ton of familiar names over there. What's tough about stock plans is moving stuff around for schedules, and reacting to your body's adaptation. I took Friday off last week instead of a light treadmill and swim workout because I was feeling a little "toast" from the past three days. I could've pushed it, would probably have been fine. But I absolutely KILLED Saturday's workout and that probably wouldn't have been the case had I pushed through Friday. Even a coach might not have seen that. Always a balance of the science that goes into the structure and the art of how you react, as we are all really experiments where n = 1. |

Expert 4918 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN After a planned off-day yesterday hit the gym at 5:30 AM this morning with 30 minutes on the bike, 30 minutes on the treadmill, leg workout, and a short swim to feel better. Solid day and I was home by 7:45 drinking coffee. I normally go 30 minutes or so later but was awake early so just headed in. Pretty much no one there. I'm concerned we're going to lock down Maryland by the end of the month so I'm getting in my gym time while I can. Tomorrow and Thursday are both hour-long sweet spot interval workouts. And another off-schedule Ravens game tonight. |

Member 3141 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN I ended up deciding to go with gosbr for training, at least until after the holidays. Custom plans using hr and power, for $30/mo. Not much interaction with a coach, but to be honest, I didn’t do much with my coach anyway. Because I’m new to their program, they scheduled testing runs and rides this week. Seriously, I just did them last week!! Anyway, today was run threshold test. Two mile intervals all out. The results were very similar to last week on the same road course. Then I had to do a ride. I was supposed to do the run yesterday, but my legs were toast from hill repeats on Sunday. I’m trying to shift my rest day to Sunday, which I’ve always liked better anyway. So, there were workouts scheduled M-Sat, so I doubled up Tuesday. |

Expert 4918 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Hey, all. Good luck, Andrew!! A couple days of sweet spot intervals. Yesterday was a failure, today executed perfectly. Probably didn't help that I had a tough workout on Tuesday and stayed up late watching the Ravens game Tuesday night. Sleep really plays a big role in my training success. Tomorrow is a swim day and then another 90 minute sweet spot workout on Saturday. Trying to build the diesel engine back up! |

Member 3141 Carbondale, Illinois | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Thursday in the US means Friday in NZ!! Big day!! Good luck to your family! 70’ run today, “long” and easy. Was kinda okayish—I blew a hole in another pair of shorts on this run, but fortunately not to the extent that I did with the last pair. That makes three pair of shorts down in the last three months. Makes sense; I bought them all at the same time, but now I’m down to no running shorts! Normally that wouldn’t be a problem in DECEMBER, but this year has been super warm (55F today), and as long as I can wear shorts, I want to! Oh gee...a reason to buy new gear. How will I cope? |

Expert 4918 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Beer Drinkers' Appreciation Society (BDAS) 2020 Version - ALWAYS OPEN Hi, Gretchen. Guess we're holding down the fort for the time being (assuming Andrew had his baby...well Andrew's wife anyway ). A good few days but last night's Ravens game took about 10 years off of my life so a really easy day. Struggling through a training plan after going rogue for more or less a whole year. LOL Sweet spot work is tough mentally. I'm more a chaser I suppose. |

We had a covid related delay, so Friday's arrival was postponed. 2x60 min runs and a 120min bike added to the weekend in place of babies. Our latest tadpole eventually arrived Tuesday. 9.25lbs of perfection. I'll check in when i can but a big few weeks, without much training ahead of me. Be good everyone. |
