Tdotnew2tri - 2012-03-31 2:28 AM Anyone registered for the endurance nation $99 training camp this june?
I just visited their site and now its $595.  I wonder if we have to pay the difference if we're already registered?

I inquired on their price jump. They pretty much told me the only way to join the camp now is to join Endurance Nation's team and you can go for free or pay the price increase. They are sticking to their guns for their team!  BS if you ask me! I will be going up that wknd anyhow and I hear a few others on this forum are going. When it gets closer I'm sure we can all meet up to train

My bike zone 2 is:  136-146

After this weeks bike test, my bike zone 2 is: 131 -145

My training really hit a low so far. It has been the worst week of training so far.  I'm dealing with family health issues and work/coaching/family schedule that is testing my IM time managment skills.  The sinus issue that is developing isn't helping either.

Really looking forward to tomorrow's long ride and short run.  Good luck to everyone this weekend...

I'll be up there that weekend assisting with the start-tri camp.  What does the EN offer for the extra $500?? Any extra perks?

Im looking forward to riding outside b/c my 2:45 ride to nowhere in my family room wasn't exactly exciting.  On a positive note to a long trainer ride was Alternative Endurance station on Pandora. Loved it How's everyone's weekend going?  Im a non-finker so Im still doing my own thang...

Tough weekend here as well. Did a 13.1 mile run and felt okay until mile 11. My time was really terrible, even for me, as I'm not a very good runner. I had higher expectations with all of this training. Depressing but its only one day. I hope to get an outside ride in tomorrow morning before the rain. I don't think I can handle 3.5 hrs on the trainer. Best to everyone.

Hey Team4Cooper and Major_BC - sorry to hear you guys are going through the rough spot with the training - It is temporary and you will come back fast, hard, and better for it. This has been a pretty good month for me - finished it up today with an 87 miler on the bike that included 5 x 5 miles @ 90% FTP. Now that is some FUN right there... Oh and I had a nice little crash too. One of these days I am going to learn to keep my wheels down. Today was not that day.

Awesome day all around - weather is beautiful (mid 70s) and a good rain knocked the pollen back a bit.

Tomorrow is 4x400s followed by 4x800s on the track. It promises be soul crushing. Look for me to be whining about it in the afternoon.

I'm in the same boat.  I just got back from a week long work training class out of town.  I some how caught some head cold thing where I can't breath very well, and all my training has been with different equipment than I have been training with.  I finaly got home this morning (Just after midnight) so I swapped my long bike and run this weekend (I'll be doing the long bike tomorrow, did the long run today).  Hope you are feeling better soon.  Try to stay positive we still have a long way to go, this week is not going to make or break it.

I got in a nice post work ride in Harriman tonight.  Lake Welch Drive is open for driving/riding, but Lake Tioroti is stil closed to traffic, but ridable for cyclists.  What a great ace to train...

Enjoy the weekend training.  Be safe!

Yeah, the Harryman Tri just changed the bike to an out & back, from a loop, because of Tiorati construction. I was really looking forward to climbing up Tiorati. I'm hoping to get up their real soon. My buddy rode up there last week and he said the joint segments on Lake Welch Parkway are wider then ever. Did you experience this? I've ridden LWP plenty, and it's never been smooth, but I hope it's not worse than years past.

Just finished Oceanside 70.3 and stayed within my zones / self, racing how I wanted.  Success.  Water was bout 55 and swells which freaked a LOT of swimmers out (one chick had a panic attack and clung to surf assistance.)  Will do a report later as more food is needed and some rest, but got to meet Craig Alexander (during expo) and Andy Potts (winner) during awards.

Tomorrow is rest, Monday light swim recovery, then slowly easing back into training (even easier for running) till everything is normal and back on track.

Hope all weekend training goes well, and sorry to hear about the difficulties some are having, hope they will get better soon.

That sounds like one of my track workouts for school. When you do a workout like that, are you looking for pacing or are you going anaerobic on them? I have my long bike tomorrow as I had a track meet today. going to ride to another university where my friends are playing in a ultimate Frisbee tournament and then hitch a ride back with them. Hope all are feeling strong and healthy!

2012 Lake Placid Bike Course Change.

I'm still a little stunned even after having a night to sleep on this.  Last night I hung out with my buddy Sean, who is good friends with the LP Race Director.  On Tuesday morning the director got a memo from the North Elba (Lake Placid) and Town of Keene Deputy Highway Superintendent stating that a major overhaul construction project would be commencing May 21st to replace major strips of roadway along Routes 73 and 9.  Included was an NY Army Corps of Engineers report that showed flooding caused by Hurricane Irene had displaced enormous sections of soil and sediment ten and twenty feet beneath the roadways which represents a significant risk for sink holes and complete roadway collapse.

So basically they are ripping up the entire first 16 miles of the Bike Course.  The good news is this will not affect the Run couse.  It's looking 99% like the bike course will now simply be an out & back on route 86.  We will go down the Bears, down Route 86 to Wilmington.  Due to the traffic pattern change we will likely not be turning into Wilmington but continuing straight on Bonnieview road for 2 miles, then making a left and going north on Silver Lake Rd for 10 miles of climbing.

So the good news is Ironman Lake Placid will go on despite the road construction, it will just be a different course, which I'm told will be just as if not more picturesque with the north Silver Lake climb which goes vertical to a peak of near 4,400 feet.  The downside is the total elvation gain with the Silver Lake climb will now be approximately 9277 feet.  I'm still trying to wrap my head around this and I'm looking at this as a positive.  The bike course will now be the most difficult in North America, trumping Ironman St. George.  But as I was reminded, Ironman Lanzarote bike course is over 10,000+ in gain, and plenty of people complete that Ironman every year just fine.  I was also reminded that with this added climbing means LOTS OF DOWNHILLS!!

The worry is that because the construction will not start for over a month and a half, and out of fear of massive cancellations, WTC may hold this information close to the chest until after the cancellation date passes; however, I was told to get word out as soon as possible and that a bike route will be finalized and posted ASAP.  For me, I'm kind of excited about this challenge, it was also mentioned there may be more Kona Spots allotted to the event and more pro points awarded due to the change to keep the 2012 race attractive.  This really doesn't mean much for me or anyone on this message board.  For us, it's about focusing on the positives - Swim is the same; Run is the same; there is just roughly 1800 feet of more climbing per 56-mile out & back.  Not a big deal.  We'll train appropriately and this doesn't really change anything except make the journey that much more exciting.

Thanks for the excellent info. I figure with the course change my body fat will be huge aide on the downhills so I have decided to stop training and just eating to maximize my girth before race day. The speed I gain going downhill will offset the climbs.  Thanks for saving me all that work. Can't wait to ride down the Bears.

Bobby - I didn't really want to post anything about it, but I heard the same thing a week or so ago from one of the local tri shop owners here in ATL that grew up in Lake Placid and still has family/connections there. They have evidently been talking about this a while.

Oh, and BTW, while the swim course has not changed, the rules in fact have. Due to the unseasonably warm winter the swim is almost certainly guaranteed to NOT be wetsuit legal. To avoid the timing issues that the WTC has been running into lately when they have tried employ wetsuit/non-wetsuit waves, at IMLP they are instead going to send all the age groupers out together but require all swimmers that decide on using a wetsuit to stuff it full of 35 pounds of marbles.

I have been vacationing up there at Silverlake for the past 5 years.  I'll have to look at the map to see how far it goes on Silverlake road.  I do remember that there is a nice looong hill going towards Bonnieview.  (I remember saying that when I was driving back and forth that I was glad I didn't have to ride up that hill.  It just seemed like it went up forever.  Now I'm going to have to invest in 35lbs of marbles for swimming and for the bike training I'm going to have to do to be able to make up the difference.

Oh my god...almost 10k feet of climbing... Well if I'm going to do an IM, it might as well be rated tougher then st George. Does this mean we should try and have a few long rides with climbing at least 7k-8k?

Thanks for the heads up on this DC. Good to know ahead of time. Especially for something like this.

Damn it. I lost all my marbles years ago, now I'm going to have to buy a whole new batch. I wonder if they Zipps sells any aerodynamic marbles that will help me reduce my drag in the water?

Anyone know how this extra 35lbs requirment will affect the swim portion? I'm already pretty slow.

But I would not be surprised because in Cooperstown (Baseball Hall of Fame) There are roads that look passable but underneath they are torn up and not traffic is allowed on them.

2012 Lake Placid Bike Course Change.

Confession:

I must admit that my first response was !*%##!**%@#!!

(but I am on call and sleepless...)

My second thought was that I am going to do more hills than ever in training and this won't beat me!

THEN, I thought, hey it's April 1st, so maybe I'll check the thread later on and see what's what.

(yes, I am gullible)
