Either you are a self absorbed narcissist who must get in "their" workout, OR

you are one heckuva good guy for doing a good deed for your neighbors...

GBY

Hmmm Na I think it was a bit of both. I used to help out the older couple next to me even when I was larger and out of shape. I just find all this working out I have soooooo much more energy now and IT drives me nuts to sit still. But then again. Both my wife and I have never been able to sit still much. We are always on the go.

I am not much of a TV person nor have I ever been. So I can't sit still look at snow out my window.

I think I am the nice guy doing the good deed and always have been. But now I am encompassing the fact I am also a self absorbed narcissist

Ignore this, I'm a little stupid today.  Trying to multitask and I think my brain is telling me I only have one CPU.

SSMinnow - 2011-01-12 7:14 AM Hopping in to ask the all important question, WHO'S RACING THIS WEEKEND?

For us non racers, it's 12 days into the new year, what are you doing right? what do you need to work on?

I've got a few things to work on.  Need to get back to the pool after a four week layoff. Need more consistancy with my running. I want a minimum of 3 runs a week but would like to get four sessions in.  Bike, on Jorge's prep week two.  Looking forward to the test next Monday to finaly have proper HR Zones to work with.  The bike sessions are feeling great, really loving the trainer.  Other items to work on is I need to properly stretch after bike and run, I'm starting to feel some tightness with hamstrings.

On a very good note during my short swim today I didn't have any problems with my shoulder that I injured at Hockey Sunday.  I was very worried on Monday as I couldn't even pickup my three year old without a lot of pain.

Thanks for the replies. I've been cutting out the speed work and just trying to add in some fartleks into one of my easy runs but in all honesty most of my runs are pretty easy. If I feel good, I go hard, if I feel sore, I go slow. Going forward the schedule will look like 4-5, 3, 4-5, long run which will be 9 mi this week and increasing to 12 before the race. I might be able to add in a 3 mi run either as a brick or on my 'rest' day or increase milage during the week.

SSMinnow - 2011-01-12 12:58 PM All this talk about a relay sounds FUN!  Are there any that are not in season?  the thought of traveling without my bike is highly appealing....of course, the bod needs to cooperate!

Good luck Glen.  Strategy?

This one is not as long as some of the ones already mention but it looks like fun.  Our tri group is talking about doing this and have the support vehicle be a group of bikes (you get extra points for having environmentally friendly transportation between legs).

velcromom - 2011-01-12 7:28 AM I'm also REALLY EXCITED about meeting Kim and riding a REALLY TOUGH course with her on Monday!!   Keep praying for sun!!  Anyone want to join us?   It's supposed to be in the high 50's and dry.....

Me too, Linda!  Especially looking forward to the bread!  Minnow is right, my bike has not been off of the trainer in a looooong time.  I have not ridden hills in so long, you will have to wait for me at the top of Old La Honda...

I need to dig up my toe warmers, that's how long it's been.  High 50's would be wunnnnnnerful.

Great Gazoo!  Brings back memories, wasn't he only seen by Fred when Fred went through some time warp thing?  I love this group for the "randomness" of knowledge that can be shared.  Good times.

Relay, relay, relay, I am in for sure!

I did the sprint last year.  This year I am going to do the half - it will be my first.

PS - it's George Surprised

ETA - I guess Glen could have done musselman...I should have let him answer!

One question: Why is the distance of the race in kilometers and the altitude is in feet? 125 km, and 17,000 feet of elevation change. If you are going to take such pride in the metric system then at least use it consistantly! Wink

If we used it consistently how would we screw you up.   Just for you I'll do the conversion. 17,000 feet is about 5181 meters.

You trail-runner types - tell me about trail shoes.  I am planning on a trail run this year and would like to get a H20-proof pair for running in snow/rain/uckky conditions...  I saw these and they seem good, but how does the fit work?  Is it just like road shoes - neutrual, prontation, etc.

i run in these.   really like em'.

i don't like socks below the ankle on trails, to much crap gets in my normal low cut running socks, balega's.  i tried a pair of wrightsocks on sunday's run...didn't like them.

Always late to the game, but there are a ton of good shoe's out there....

I think that you will find the problem with Salomon is in the arch- Be prepared for a gnarly blister the size of Canada on your arch after a longer run (ASK RP---- We both went through it, and know several others who have gone through it)....

This is the best Goretex shoe all around both in weight, and "breathability"

For a non Goretex built to last an my go-to shoe this is a must shoe to have..... You can find them pretty cheap if you shop around (REI has them on clearance right now...)

I am currently sporting these, and feel ook with them.... Running Out in the snow last night they felt pretty good....

Steve, have you tried those (best Gortex)? They have this lacing system... a friend with whom I do field training has this on his boots and I've always marveled over it and said they should incorporate it into running shoes. And voila! There it is!! Curious why it's not used more often and what you think of it. I've never WORN shoes with this system, but I did poke around with this guy's boots one day because I was so fascinated by it. (What a loser I am, huh? Out in the field with great people and awesome dogs and I'm geeking out on lacing systems!) Ha!!!

specialized has a similar (i think) system on the s-works.  i tried a pair this past sunday and yeah,  they are comfortable because you can dial it in and it seemed very simple to use.  however,  i just could not get over the feeling of the wire or whatever it is not being substantial enough.  also have a hard time with the dials, they just seemed a bit, dunno,  dainty maybe.  clearly the price isn't very good either.

edit.  i haven't tried one the ones steve rec's.  and some people don't break things as well as i do.

Not to mention they have links to how to clean, care, and maintain the lacing system. Ummmmm, velcro works just fine for me on my cycling shoes!! At least running shoes would get replaced more often. But yeah, I was wondering about the comfort factor when you care so much about weight and feel. Thanks, John!!
