LOL...that was great. You had me all the way...was hoping it was true. My time on the bike is going to suck...might as well suck on the hardest bike course in the country!

Yeah, the Harryman Tri just changed the bike to an out & back, from a loop, because of Tiorati construction. I was really looking forward to climbing up Tiorati. I'm hoping to get up their real soon. My buddy rode up there last week and he said the joint segments on Lake Welch Parkway are wider then ever. Did you experience this? I've ridden LWP plenty, and it's never been smooth, but I hope it's not worse than years past.

I'm not sure if you have done this race in past years, but I believe last years course was an out and back - TWICE.  You will be leaving the water/transition to ride down LWD, then hit the U-turn to ride right back up LWD.  You take LWD to 7LD and head to Tiorati Circle...

I've been riding Harriman all winter. I can't say that the roads are any worse.  All things considered, we had a good winter with limited ice/snow.  But, as you know, the roads certainly are not smooth and comfortable.

Have you raced Harryman before?

I raced the Olympic in 08 when it was the original counter-clockwise loop going down Tiorati.  And I did the half in 2010 when they first did the out & back and the bike course was actually 63 miles!!  I neglected to bring and solid nutrition, and I didn't bring enough liquid nutrition, and it took me 7:05 to finish.  Talk about a hard lesson learned and a sufferfest!!

SEADOCHA - 2012-03-30 11:12 AMNeed some advice. I found a new front 2011 firecrest clincher for $699 OTD. this is what I want to race with (all the time). Sounds like a good deal! Is it silly to have one race wheel and rent the rear. I'd like to buy a rear, but then I'd have to get another PT and this is where my budget goes over. I think I'm just looking for someone's approval. lol. Ya or Nay???

Having bought a new set of 404/808 firecrests for my wife about 7 months ago it sounds like a great deal to me, but I really don't know what the market looks like for wheels that are effectively last years model. - I wouldn't hesitate to jump on it if it seems like a good deal based on your research, and wouldn't think anything of of renting a rear. Somebody is going to ask you though, so it might as well be me - what about a wheel cover on on your existing PT?

Tell me more...about the wheel cover.haha. I was going to rent a 808 for the rear. Originally thought about the disc, but if it gets windy I'm worried about getting swept away. I've never did any research about the disc wheels or covers. Can you elaborate please? Thanks

Oh yea, I think the buy on the wheel is good because I have been checking places almost every day. That's what I do at work... I'm not an exec yet.hahaha

My question would be,"Why would you train with power and then go rent a rear wheel without it?" To me you would be flying blindly then. I use an 808 front and a rear wheel cover from wheelbuilder.com. They cut it to your specific specifications, including having a PT.

according to the research it is as aero if not more aero than the full disc and you can take it off during training, travel etc. Plus you save about $1000 by doing so. lol. I think it is about $90 with shipping from wheelbuilder.com .... no I don't get paid for endorsing them.

just my 2 cents

and ^^ there^^ ya go!

That is the prevailing wisdom, although I assume you were going to rent a power tap wheel rear wheel for the race, right? Not sure what that would set you back, but I will bet that renting a power tap wheel costs a good bit more than a wheel cover? I'll let the experts chime in on the wheel covers (I don't own one and have never ridden one) but I will say that you really shouldn't worry about the wind with a disk - it is way overblown (HA!). I have found that a disk often seems MORE stable in the wind, not less. For the record I ride with a 1080 zipp rear, just because it tested as fast as a disk on my current setup (P2c) when i bought it and was lighter. Except at low yaws, the newer Firecrest 808 generally matched the 1080, so zipp quit making it.

Anyway, for 100 bucks, it seems like you could try out the wheel cover and see if you like it?

And besides, the only real shortcoming that I can see with a wheel cover is that it won't make the WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH sound of a proper disk.

HA!!! I love the whooosh whooosh sound.

I know people rent but that would make me nervous personally. Meaning, I am training on a specific set of wheels/bike/nutrition for a year and then I go and race on something I have never ridden/eaten before. That would mindf$#% me John Holmes style. I know my gear and during a race that is what I trust.

what a weekend to train!!

The future wifey came to me about going to visit the grandparents Saturday. first thing that came to me was "That's my long ride day" (4 hours) (Inner monologue voice of course). Kicker is we had to leave at 7:30 am and wouldn't be back home til 10pm. day trip, 4 hour drive each way.  So I went to coach and told him and he said he could switch it up for me. Well I got my first double brick, ever, handed to me in trainipeaks.

1 hr bike

main set  3 x 10 at 175-195 watts 2 min recovery

30 min run

1 hr bike

main set 15 x 2 min at 200-230 watts 1 min recovery

30 min run

I liked how this was broken up wasn't as mentally challenging as sitting on the trainer for 3-4 hours.... it was 30 degrees again in central NY so no riding outside.

then sunday was 2 runs... one at 1hr45min then 5 hours later a 30 min run.

30 degrees is warm, isn't it?  Layer up and get outside!

I had a good weekend of training, too.  Life got in the way of Saturday's run, so I needed to switch it to today.

Sunday's ride had a group of 9 out to ride the hills of NY.  63 miles of solid riding w/ 4700' climbing with a short transition run of 20min.  Legs felt good.  Mentally felt great and starting to see some good fitness come along.  Had some GI issues during the run, which will need some attention...

Onto another week...  Everyone else have a good weekend of training?

Tdotnew2tri - 2012-03-31 2:28 AM Anyone registered for the endurance nation $99 training camp this june?
I just visited their site and now its $595.  I wonder if we have to pay the difference if we're already registered?

I inquired on their price jump. They pretty much told me the only way to join the camp now is to join Endurance Nation's team and you can go for free or pay the price increase. They are sticking to their guns for their team!  BS if you ask me! I will be going up that wknd anyhow and I hear a few others on this forum are going. When it gets closer I'm sure we can all meet up to train

I will be up there that weekend not going to EN Camp just training myself as there are a of people up there that weekend with the EN Camp & LP Marathon Sunday.

As far as new people signing up they can charge whatever they want.  However, exisiting contracts were entered into at $99 for the camp, $69 if you were a member, and EN must honor those contracts or they are in violation of NY state law as we are entitled to the "benfit of the bargain".   I have an existing contract, in writing, for the camp at $99 and will be there.

I plan on arriving late Thursday afternoon.   Will ride the beginning of the bike course until I reach the bottom of the Keene descent to try to eliminate any "fears" about this part of the course.  We will then drive the remainder of the bike course.  Time permitting maybe go for a swim.  Friday will be a light jog on the "out" portion of the out and back run course.  Then go to the expo, register, chill out and relax til race day.

I'm getting there on Monday   Last year I got in on Tuesday.  I cannot emphasize enough how stress-free and relaxing it is to pick up your packet when it first opens; hit the merchandise tent when it first open; go to dinner at 4:30; the key is hitting everything off-peak.  This way I fit all my training in for the week, and have my nights to relax and just watch the kiddies swim in the pool.  I highly recommend not hitting everything on PEAK hours, although I understand some people come in wednesday/thursday and have no choice.

The key for me, is having a relaxing stress free week to acclimate up there.    We also have a studio with a kitchenette which is awesome cause we got to the local super market when we first get into town, stock up, and we make it like a home away from home.  If you can manage something like this, it makes the whole experience more enjoyable and much more stress-free.

We also bring the kids to Santa's Workshop at the North Pole, NY (only 20 mins away) http://www.northpoleny.com/   but make sure you do this Thursday/Friday cause it's hilly in there!  I wouldn't want to be walking those hills the day before the race.  On Saranac Avenue (a left at the end of Main St) is also mini golf, kids bungee jumping (I'll post the video of my son if I can find it) and a few more family friendly attractions.  Saranac Ave, about 2 miles down on the right, is also were there's Hannafords Supermarket - a huge, clean, price-friendly place to stock up.

Were making a vacation of it.  Tuesday to Tuesday.  Weve got a small house rented in the village and plan on enjoying the full week with the kids and some friends that we split the house with.  Going to run lightly on Wednesday, ride lightly on Thursday and probably swim lightly each day.  Im taking Friday and Saturday completely off and staying off my feet.  Ill check in early as DC mentioned to stay away from the crowds.  I wont dare buy anything at the IM store until I am legit.  Dont want to jinx myself.  I wont even look at the tent.  Cant wait to be in Mirror Lake on the morning of 7/22.  If I can stay healthy Ill be the one with a smile from ear to ear.   I dont plan on it lasting all day.

we originally got the house from Tues-tues but one of the guys wanted to stay and extra day so we changed to Wed-Wed. Which kind of is 'bad' for me because I will be leaving Monday with my fiance. I guess the silver lining is I don't have to clean up too much haha.

Our house is on Lake Placid Club Way just behind the bike/run special needs area on Mirror lake.

Looking forward to going up in June to ride the course, since it's changed right DC . But when July comes I know this experience will go by quick.

Thursday-Tuesday for my family and myself. Must work Thursday-1/2 day then we'll be off.

Nice that I can drive there from CT and will have my bike on the back.

When it gets closer, we'll have to share info about a hookup/meet/swim etc...

Any other suggestions for food? My 15yo is picky-the 17yo will eat anything.

DW and I are meat and potatoes peeps. Great steak anywhere?
