tri808 - 2012-11-02 9:24 PM I have a cycleops fluid 2.  Maybe you can take a picture of your problem, and how the bolt is bent.  Could be it's not installed properly?  I could double check with how my bolt is installed and compare.

Yup, I have one too.  I'm sure we can figure it out.

Thanks so much! I will try to get one tomorrow.

Does anyone have any races left this season?

Nothing specific planned but my wife wants to do a 5k sometime and I will likely run it with her.

I think all I have this year is a 2k OWS.  I'm the defending AG champ.  Don't ask how many people were in my AG though.

Were you ever able to schedule the 2nd annual doughboy 5168 (can't remember the exact number)?

TheClaaaw - 2012-11-02 5:39 PMYou all who are talking about losing 5-10 pounds are just adorable.

And it may sound like AA, but for a few of us who have had serious food issues, there is OA, overeaters anonymous. I visited 10 years ago, rolled my eyes and left. I finally returned in 2012. I got a handle on things are starting losing again for the first. Half of he year. Time to get back to a meeting.

. I know what OA is. I have a lot of patients with eating issues. Truthfully any weight issues are tough, they are emotional and go to our core and self worth assessment. Whether its 5 or 100 lbs, weight is a tough topic. Support each other and recognize we all have issues to a degree. I know I'm a 'healthy' weight, but I think about my weight and wonder every day if I could lose more to be more competitive in races. My work has hurt my training enough so it's not realistic, but I still dream of winning age group. Yup I'm conflicted.

Here's the frustrating thing for me. I'd love to lose those 5-10 lbs that I keep talking about but I must have some sort of issue. I have a lot of discipline when it comes to training: I can run in the dark, ride in the wind, swim when it's cold etc etc. I rarely miss a workout but for some reason I just can't transfer that discipline over to eating. It has to be diet for me because I train consistently over 10 hours per week. I know the saying, you get fit by working out but you get lean in the kitchen. Or maybe in my case, I just need to stay out of the kitchen. Now that I type it, it does sound ridiculous to only have 5 lbs to lose but not be able to do it. Maybe I just need to HTFU and do it!

I am in the same boat.  I am by no means overweight.  But I have excess weight to lose.  I am working on the discipline part now and am finally making progress.  I signed up for some nutrition coaching via Precision Nutrition and they basically have a process to help you change your habits slowly over time.  I have basically eliminated all processed food completely from my diet, really reduced the size of my portions, learning to eat slowly so that I can actually judge when I am full, and only eat to 80% full (to which they simply mean eat until you are no longer hungry, not until you are full).  I still have the occasional ice cream or beer, still a bit more then I should, but I am working on it.  It is a slow process cause I don't have a lot to lose and they slowly change your habits to help make it a permanent change.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. Will probably be Monday the 12th. My wife has off work, and I take Mondays generally. Our pool is open at 7am, so that makes for a good start time. She wants to do the bike and run with me. She can't swim yet.

BTW, 5168 is exactly the number. Good memory!e

I am going to try what Bryan D suggests and cut out gluten. I do eat a lot of wheat and I do feel bloated a lot, so we'll see what happens. I'll let you guys know

Weight. Yell

I have never been what I would consider thin. I am just a hair under 5'3" and my body seems to like 130-135. I am 139 right now, so I feel a little heavy.

I would like to be 115-120, but I'm not sure I can get there. In the past 18 months, I have been as low as 128, but I couldn't maintain it.

Well, "couldn't," but we know what that means. I ran out of will power and let some bad eating habits creep back in -- like half and half in my coffee instead of milk. Ice cream. Chocolate. I love chocolate. (After my trainer ride this evening, I treated myself to a Starbuck's caramel hot cocoa. Bad, bad, bad, but oh, so good.)

As an adult in my late 20's, I went on weight watchers and got down to about 105. People thought I was anorexic, but emotionally, I felt very comfortable at that weight. At my age now, that probably is a little thin. But for a 20 something, it seemed ideal.

One of my hangups with weight comes from Junior High (whose doesn't?) -- I was barely 5'2" and 105 pounds. I was considered "fat" by my female peers because I weighed over 100 pounds. I never got crazy about it -- I didn't purge, starve myself, or take diet pills like some of my friends did -- but every morning, I would knock on my hip bones to be sure that I could feel them. To meet the standard for "skinny" (which is what we all wanted to be) our hip bones were supposed to be visible through our pants.

It's pretty pathetic when I think about it, but I admit that I still look for those hip bones. It's hard to shake some of the sick-think surrounding weight standards. I weigh myself every day. Sometimes two or three times a day.

Anyway, I need a nutrition strategy. I shop at the edges of the grocery store, going into the interior only for staples like flour, sugar, pancake mix (!!) etc. I drink soda only very rarely. I drink a lot of water, tea, and some coffee (and hot cocoa every now and then). I eat whole grains, fruit, veggies. I'm ambivalent about protein most of the time, but I do eat meat. I'm not into fast food -- if I grab something fast, it's usually Subway or Jimmy Johns.

I will say, however, that while my weight hasn't changed much in the past year (up and down 5 pounds), my clothes fit better now than they did a year ago. I try to feel good about that, but I still obsess about what the scale says.

Got my 910 in the mail today and it works great.  Instant run pace is not bad...probably similar to my 405.  If I'm runnin 8:50's it pretty much stays between 9:15 and 8:30...not like the horror stories other people have been saying and I didn't even update my firmware yet.

Swimming function was pretty good.  Didn't miss a length.  Not sure if I'll actually use it for pool training though as I think a simple pace clock or a regular sport watch does the job just fine.  I'll try to take it in the open water this weekend to see what that's like.

Anyone up really late notice that the training logs have been down the past couple of weeks past 2 am EST (which is about 8pm Hawaii time).  Forums still work without flaw, but I keep getting error messages when trying to log my workouts.  BT must be getting ready for their new design.

Mine arrived yesterday in Ottawa. duties seem to be the price of fed/prov taxes or 15%. I have not seen the invoice yet, but there does not seem to be crazy brokerage fees.

So Thursday I received a box with shoes and a crank, yesterday a watch and tires....the wife asked me if I had done my own Christmas shopping and if she didn't have to worry about it this year. Hint, hint.....

So PT went fairly well yesterday.  I am learning that I am the most muscularly imbalanced person in the world.  I've got some work to do to totally get rid of the pain in the shoulder but should be able to accomplish it.  It was already much better by the time I left.  So perhaps by the time I live in a location with an actual pool I'll be able to swim pain free.  So now I've got my hip on one side, my knee on the other, and my shoulder.  Anyone want to take bets as to what is next?

Fred, I've thought of some strategies. Implementing is the hard part. I also find it hard with the little ones not to eat pizza and pasta all the time and other packaged and processed junk that I know is bad. I know it's possible and have read up on body composition and diets. I have some issues where I self sabatoge and will ruin a good stretch with some major binge eating. It's all very mental and have to get that part under control. Like many of you I am disciplined working out and can work out for a couple months straight at 5-6am without missing a day but the diet thing crushes me. Anyway good to hear I'm not alone.

Fred D - 2012-11-03 9:43 AM Lots of great weight revelations and discussion. I thank you for that! Again, whether its 5 or 150 lbs we all can support each other. Also, give ourselves some slack as well. We have an 'ideal' weight many of us wish we were, but honestly many of us (me) have some OCD and need to be mindful of this obsessiveness as something to be careful of as well. I propose we start HERE AND NOW a goal for November for what to do about weight. Here I will go first.... I am currently 166 lbs. my goal for November is to snack less and drink a little less wine. If I can get to just below 164 lbs I will be happy. Yes this is a very, very small goal, but I am going to shoot for it. Anyone else interested in a weight loss (or not weight loss, but diet improvement) challenge? Runs from today until the day before thanksgiving. We can start another one after thanksgiving. Thoughts?

but Thanksgiving isn't until next October!

I like it Fred!  I'm currently 168 and I'd like to get to <166 by then.  My strategy will be to just eliminate the little unneeded extras like getting home and eating a granola bar and a handful of almonds before supper and sometimes I have two bowls of cereal for a late snack rather than just one...

I have no weight lose goal.  It is strange to say I want to lose weight and yet have no number in mind I suppose but I have learned that the number is just a number.  What I do want to be is lean.  If that is at 125 or 135 I do not care.  I am currently taking girth measurements every week and skinfold measurements every 3 months.  I just want to see those go down.  Right now I am still losing weight while managing to maintain muscle so that is good but I am guessing at some point soon the weight lose will stop but I will still be losing some girth.

As I mentioned I am doing nutrition coaching and so my goal is around what I actually am eating.  So my goal is to be more inline with what I am already suppose to be doing and to stop eating so many chocolate chips.  I have gotten into this habit of taking a few at pretty much every meal and it just isn't helping.  So from now until we establish our next goal no more chocolate chips as a side snack throughout the day.  It seems small but for me it is huge

Great idea, Fred.

I would like to hit and maintain 135 by the end of November. That's four pounds, which will take some real effort.

I'm going to skip the cupcake/cookie at lunch. If I can't do it, I will stop eating at the cafeteria.

No snacking after 9:00 p.m.

It sounds like you're due for some kind of foot trouble. Wink

I had PT about a year ago for SI joint problems and hip bursitis. It seriously kicked my butt -- sometimes she had me in tears on the table. But it really did help.
