ouch, john.

speaking of wrist strap extensions, is there one for the 310xt like the velcro one for the 305?  Or could I use the same one?   Suzy?  where are you?????  we miss you???????????!

Kim The quick release for the 310XT is totally different and the velcro strap will not work with it. I lost a screw for my 310xt unit and then could not find half the strap so I called and they are supposed to send me a replacement under warranty. It has been over 2 weeks so I need to call them and find out what is up.

What are you asking? I got a new band for my 310 which enabled the quick release. It was pretty much the same as the original band.

Sorry, rereading my post, it really didn't make sense.

My wrist is too small for the watch band that came with my 305 (hard plastic), so I bought the one that came with the quick release (velcro) and was wondering if they had the same thing for the 310xt.  Apparently they do.

Now, I'm asking whether the strap I have for the 305 will work for the 310.  Since Trevor posted, I have looked at it online but it's not clear if it would work for both.  Or would I have to buy a whole new one (although not too expensive).  It looks like maybe a new one, since the mount looks like a different style.

You have little baby girl wrists!!! i just Put my watch band on the smallest setting. It the girls were still awake, i let try to fit it on. It'll probably fit some of their little dolls wrists i bet
OMG, you are just hilarious! What was that about a package to Canada??? My baby wrist might just sign return to sender, Mister Funny Man.

Need rational thinking advice regarding bikes.

I am in the market for a new road bike.

The part of me that goes on group rides and wants the latest technology, really wants a high end bike, Specialized Venge, Cervelo S5, maybe Madone 5.9 with Ultegra Di2.

The part of me that races 10-15 crit's a year where I see people crash often enough thinks I should get a bike with a much lower replacement value.

Time spent on bike training/just riding around = 98% or more, time spent racing

I've actually met guys that own zipp's but are afraid to race on them and only bring them out for training/group rides and race on POS box rims.  I don't want to be that guy.

Given that initial purchase price isn't as much of a factor as getting the bike I want  vs. replacing that initial purchase would be very, very difficult, which way would you go?

I'm nowhere near you league but I like looking at bikes! I had a look at the Scott Foil today, a great looking bike and getting good reviews.

Foil's are nice but a bit out of my reasonable price range, Kind of like the Felt AR1's.  I'm not a Cervelo Fanboy but it is amazing how they can sell their aero bikes so much cheaper than than everyone else.

Went to LBS yesterday and they were trying to get me to buy a 2011 Specialized S-works SL3 with SRAM Red and Zipp 202 tubulars.  It was feather light, I picked up my current bike this morning and it feels like a tank next to that bike.

I put the quick release for the 310xt onto the 305 velcro strap, and it works great. The pins for the 310 are a bit shorter, but if you bunch the fabric where they go in the band just a bit  you can get it on and then you really can't tell the difference. I've had mine set up this way since I got it a year ago.  Love the velcro and the 310xt!

Went for a demoralizing run this AM. 10 of us ran in the Duke Forest in Chapel Hill. I was last each 3 mile lap. The hills were redonkulous and my legs were trashed. Was supposed to run for 1:45 but could only get through 1:27. Blah!

I've studied my 305 velcro strap and I just don't see any way to attach anything to it, other than the 305. Would you be able to post pictures about what you're talking about, Roni?

Real live question ahead:

I am looking for a low tech watch that I can wear in the pool that keeps track of laps.  I want the lap button to be in the front, not the side so it is easy to hit.   Ideas?  Unlike Twin my wrists are normal size so any old watch will do.  I think we may have covered this once before, but I don't remember what the recommendations were.

You ran today. Better then some of us.

I wanted to but the snow was coming down at about a 89 degree angle to the ground today and the 30-45 mph winds were killer. So I opted to skip my run completely.

Sounds like a good workout to me. Great job.

Hope everyone is doing awesome. I haven't been around much due to work and trying to squeeze workouts in. And trying this new thing with avoiding technology (other then my kindle) for 90 mins before bed time.

I have been sleeping much better now because of it too.

First, Fatty glad to see those berries are from Florida.  Wouldn't want you catching the crud with something from Mexico!

Second, Fatty and Kim is the face easy to read?  I had this ancient Timex and not only was the lap thingy on the side it was impossible to read because the face was dark.

Third, Jayne I had one of those and gave it away.  About half the time I would think I pushed the button and it didn't work (at least for me).

Finally, I am ignoring that bag all together.

it is.  (sorry, battery just died else i'd post a pic)  there are two things i've found take some getting used to.

  1. the lap time is smaller than cumulative time.
  2. the lap time starts moving at 10 seconds.  so if your rest interval is less than 10 seconds this might be an issue although you might be able to adjust this, i haven't tried.

neither is an issue for me, just some observations.

I have no idea.  I think someone posted the Timex Ironman lap watch when we had that discussion way back.  I think I will just get one cuz it is relatively cheap, it comes in purple and I can use it casually if it doesn't work in the pool.  Then I'll let you know....lol.  What happened to the pennies?

I think I am going to forgo the 310xt and the 910xt and just get a small running watch...maybe the FR110.  I don't need it for the bike since I have my Garmin 500.  Too much technology, too many choices, too many things to go wrong on my little itty bitty doll wrist.  For OWS, I'll do group swims and ask someone else how far we went.  That works for me.

What bag?

I'd stay away from the ironman watches they are not designed to have the buttons pressed under water.  Mine started sticking and now tends to double-tap when I hit lap.

I guess if you stop each lap and stand up and hit the lap button it would work.  I was thinking of that little watch posted earlier but if you didn't like that I would make sure you find a watch with the buttons completely sealed.

I was unclear.  I want this watch to time me doing intervals.  I never wanted to know that information and now I do.  I tried to time 300s using the pace clock today with some crazy "hit this" and rest interval and couldn't remember where I started.  I still use the pennies for the 10x100s or whatever.  I used a swimsense at our pool and it is too complicated and had too much data for me (and I rarely say that).  When it comes to swimming I need to keep it SIMPLE!

John your comment on the interval being smaller concerns me.  I have seen those watches and I don't like them.  The only thing I care about is the time for that interval and hitting the rest time which is ALWAYS more than 10'.  Come on, it's me.

Twin, scroll up if you must to see the bag.  I woudln't do it!

What bag?

Not scrolling up!  Okay, I think you should get the 910xt and then send me your 310xt.  There.  Both of our problems solved!  Innocent
