Redknight - 2009-05-17 11:27 AM

Finally back to training today. The "Rashman" is gone and Redknight is hitting the roads. Although I didn't log anything while I was away we did keep very active with swimming, pool volleyball and watersliding. We had so many adults ont eh water slide at one time one day that they shut it off. I guess they were afraid someone was going to get hurt. They didn't understand that in my family it is only fun "until" someone gets hurt. Then it's a sport.

Very weird swimming in the ocean The waves were pretty strong and I swallowed some salt water until I got the hang of not breathing into the wave. Once I got out I had to have a few beers to get the taste of the salt out of my mouth. I tired running there but it was brutal. about 35 everyday and I couldn't keep enough water in me to run far. Only tried once and gave it up for the duration of the trip.

So what is the moral of this story?  You had to go back swimming to get a little more salt water in your mouth so you could have a few more beers.

Plainsman AU - 2009-05-17 9:18 AM The FUNNIEST thing happened this morning on our group ride.  And I know, some of you will not think this was funny.  There were 9 of us and we were grouped up heading out of town when someone yelled "squirrel up" .  Well, the squirrel headed across the road right into the peleton.  Have you ever seen a squirrel do the "dance of death" in the middle of 9 bicycles?  Rider number 1 clipped him, and the squirrel did a 360 and ran right into number 2, then did the same 360 and hit the 3rd bike.  I am not sure how the squirrel faired in the end, but I know he did a couple more 360's and headed off the road...probably wondering how his day could have gone so bad so quickly.

Anyway,  had a good ride today after flatting in the first 2 minutes of the ride and having to change that.  A day of rest did me good as i had some good legs today for 37 miles.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.  Anyone else pulling for Mine That Bird in the Preakness yesterday?  That little guy has some get up and go!  I would like to have a high gear like that.

I picked purley on name, Flying Private was my horse and we all know what happened to him.  Paul won $260 in a pool because he bet on the filly.  I love it when girls beat boys!

Had a blast today! Race wise...400m/10mile/3mile.  1:11:xx.  The good, T1 was 2:05.  The not so good...(sorry team) my 100 time was slower for this 400m swim than it was for the .6 mile swim at the last tri.    Log me in for a 9:05 please Tony. (ugh!

Sorry Suzy, Chet is already on The Deuce T-shirt.  BTW,  until your team gets professionally made t-shirts...well you really ain't a team are yaWink

Hey Tracy,...the only question I got asked more than "How was your race" was "Why are you wearing two watches?".  Wore em' both the entire time.  Hopefully some good race pics in a few days.

RR up in a bit.

John - great job on the race today!  Looking forward to the RR!

I skipped my swim this morning but did get out for a really nice bike ride down on the Katy Trail.  The weather was great (a little bit of a cool breeze but not bad) - lots of people on the trail today.  I'm not sure how this week is going to go.  Our son graduates high school on Saturday and that's also our daughter's birthday, so lots of planning/preparing going to be going on this week.  Guess I'll have to try to get as many of my workouts as possible done in the morning before work.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Janet

I had a squirrel moment today, too.  Nothing crazy, but you know how you see something out of the corner of your eye, and just pray it is going to stay on the side of the road???  Well, I did just that and of course the squirrel ran right in front of me, I just kept going, since I was going too fast to stop.  It must have gone right between my front and rear tires, cuz I peeked back to my left and saw it running on the other side of the road.

Other than that, it was an awesome Sunday morning ride, finished my 40 miles at 11:00 and the temp was up to 90 degrees.  So glad I started early.

Good job Adam on your 5K that is a great time!  And fattyfat John, 1:11 on your sprint was great, too.  See, team 3 members are very gracious  you sure you wanna use that 9:05???  j/k, that's way faster than mine will be.

Success!  Completed my sprint this morning and beat my goal time - barely.  Goal was 1:40.  Finished in 1:39:33.  Will post race report in a little bit.  I don't think that Team Shi wants to use any of my times from today!  Learned alot

Well it seems like squirrels were the theme for the weekend.  That and some very nice butt kicking by our fabulous racers.

Adam,  I'll bet you'll have a great time on that sprint.  I think you made the right decision.  Can't wait to read the 5K RR.

Janet, it's nice to hear you had an enjoyable bike ride.  And try not to be too super busy with the kids and family this weekend.  Where did your son decide to go for college?  I remember you were very excited about one of his acceptances.

Andy - way to beat that time!  Super job.

John, no no no, the second watch goes on AFTER the swim, other wise people will think you're strange or something. Geez, you guys just don't know how to accessorize. Kiss

My daughter had her dance recital today.  I look at those girls with longing memories of my youth and FLEXIBILITY!!!  Although I'll admit I'm far happier not being on my toes anymore!

ABrunner - 2009-05-17 10:09 AM

So I have been MIA for quite awhile, sorry about that.  I have decided to do the sprint tri in June as opposed to the Olympic.  The training for the past few weeks has been scarce with the new addition to the family and working keeping me busy.  That being said, I did get a chance to get out and race a 5K today (my first one in years).  I will do a full race report later today.

I signed up for the race just to see where my fitness was.  I had a few good months of training early on, but recently I haven’t been getting them in, so I wanted to see what I could do.  Going into the race I told myself that I was going to try to average 7 minute miles and see what happened from there.  I ended up running 21:07.  It was in the 40s and windy and the last half of the race was uphill, so I was happy with what I did.  The new goal for the season is to go sub-20 and then work down from there.  I’ll give a more detailed updated later.

Adam

Welcome back Adam!  Nice job on the 5k.  How would you like to be on Team Shi (4)?  We are having a little friendly competition over the next 2 weeks.

-Andy

Kim, sounds like a nice ride this morning.

I had a squirrel appear on the side of the road this mornning as well.  It sat there and stared at me as I rode by.  I can only presume that it was contemplating making a dash across the road.  I was saying to myself - "Don't do it.....  Don't do it..."

Sorry everyone been swamped all weekend, wife ran another 1/2 marathon (she did one last week also) and we were all supposed to head down to watch but my son came down with strep so she went to the race and I was Mr. Mom'ing it, not as much time on the computer as usual.

I created spreadsheets for each team.

Andy - thanks for getting the race report up so fast. I love reading the reports of others "newbies" since I don't have my first race until July. Loved the part about the HR monitor hiding

tracy - Loved the squirrel video - I'll be your sandbag anytime

Did the Marine Corp Half Marathon today and it was very nasty conditions.  It rained the entire time and my training did not prepare me for those awful hills.  I didn't meet my goal of doing it under 1:30, but those hills were pretty bad.

I've been having some pain in my leg that I probably shouldn't have run this one.  I didn't want to waste my entry fee and something in my head told me to HTFU.

Here's my race report:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=159512

Great job to the racers.  Some of you are really on fire and others are starting to smoke!

Nick--Maybe it is time to get that leg back in business.  As someone who ran on an injury for months it isn't worth it.

Kim--have a great time in Hawaii! Swim in the ocean for me.

Where is our fearless leader with stories of his fabulous pace job?  Oh Steve.......inquiring minds want to know how the day progressed.

Great job everyone, lots of races this weekend, getting antsy for my next one but it isn't until the first weekend in June.

Nick, my wife was there also, lol she said she looked online and the course profile showed downhill from mile 1 to mile 10 then uphill but said it was rolling the whole way and one big one at the end.  Probably also didn't help that it was pouring down rain.

She did say it was one of the most organized events she had ever been to.

Hi everyone,

I'm back from Charlotte.  The race was fun and the weather was great.  I did neglect my training, but I walked a lot and got some sunburn - does that count??  I am on vacation this week, so hopefully I will make up for it with some long workouts, but my pool is closed so no swimming.  Congrats to everyone who raced this weekend - I am getting antsy to race myself after reading all the race reports, but my first isn't until the middle of June.  Have a great week.  I'll see how my times are this week for our virtual race.  Hopefully I won't be too slow!
