Happy food moment today. Starving at 3pm...looked at the box of fig newtons but remembered I had brought: Awesome!! Good for you, dude!! I only lost 2-3 pounds doing IM training last year. I must eat like a pig. And TONY... you've never told us... what did you do with the kids while you were running? Is this something you don't want to talk about?! Were they stashed in the trunk or locked in the hotel room or something? HAHA, no while those are are normal go to plans, my brother and his girlfriend came with us and watched them while we raced. Though things start so early we were done with the half while they were still all in bed I think. |

I rode 1.5 hour on the trainer last night and rain 31 minutes this AM. I have diminished lung capacity right now. Boy do I I appreciate what people with CF must go through now! it hurts to try and breathe deeply. CAn't wait to be healthy. Hope this is not bronchitus! I started losing my voice this morning, too, and I thought the same thing about the bronchitis! That would be just perfect with the semester starting Tuesday! I've been eating lots of oranges and washing my hands tons. Hope it helps... ugh hope you all are feeling better. I had bronchitis last month, not fun, probably less fun than the flu. LOL, I guess it really is time to take a short break. |

Starving at 3pm...looked at the box of fig newtons but remembered I had brought: Well, since my "job" is often in my car... I keep snacks in there. Not the best choice, but my go-to when I am in need of food and fast is a handy-dandy Luna bar (Lemon Zest and Toasted Cranberry are my faves, although there is usually a Nutz Over Chocolate in case I'm in need of chocolate). When I was doing IM training, I kept a bag of almonds in there too. I usually have a random assortment of bars for the kids and/or me for food emergencies. At home I find snacking tricky. I tend to grab a few handfuls of trail mix, or make a quick open-faced cheese sandwich. Pita chips and hummus hit the spot too. And nearly every day around 2 or 3pm I have about 1-3 squares of dark chocolate. Kyla's office is in her car, mine is in the kitchen! In my quest for better eating in '11, my go-to so far is fruit. Yesterday it was an apple and orange, day before berries, an apple, an an orange.....I do eat TLC bars if I need something before swimming or biking. Haven't done it in a while, but used to love an apple in vanilla yogurt with a little cinnamon. PS. I have a GIANT bag of 60% Ghiradelli Chocolate chips that gets opened frequently. What's the other 40% in the chocolate chips? My go-to is a small handful of nuts - usually almonds or walnuts. The 60% is basically cocoa (the supposed good chocolate) and the 40% is sugar, butter and vanilla....the not so good stuff. I try not to think too much about that part. During IM training, I only lost about 1-2lb, but body composition changed quite a bit. I think BF% went down by about 4%. Since that time both are back to where I started. Not getting too excited about it, just trying to get back focusing on good nutrition. Congrats Fatty....maybe we should start calling you "a little less Fatty"? |

Funny -- my kids know about my "stash," but they leave it alone as they don't like their chocolate that dark (and one kid isn't a huge chocolate fan to begin with). And yes, I agree, my body composition changed a bit too. Looking forward to getting back to "hardbody" mode! |

Expert 1797 CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia | Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - Closed Hi everyone - back home and finally feeling better. Still body sore from the flu and coughing. Legs feel great and ready to get back to running. Hopefully tomorrow I can at least bike and then run this weekend. It's been a long time since I've had the flu. As we've said before the race weekend was a blast. Definitely a different race and atmosphere. Lots of fun and energy. It's amazing how quickly the time went by. I think if our quads had not gotten sore, we could still be out there jogging along. HR never got out of Z1. It was really nice to run with Tony too. And yes Suzy, everyone and I mean everyone wears their medals for days after the race. Hard to explain unless you are there b/c it seems weird. I took my Goofy medal off my neck ribbon and attached it to my Disney pin lanyard. It will forever remain there for every Disney trip I take. Plus Monday was Marathon Mania at the parks so anyone who completed the marathon got into a park for free on Monday so you had to wear your medal. It's pretty cool b/c all the park employees congratulate you and the characters. It makes you feel special. Any family planning a trip for the marathon weekend, you can take family along to help watch kids or there are some babysitting services that are available 24 hrs. a day. We've used them for dinner time but you can get people for all hours. No racing for me this weekend. And 12 days into the year, I'm very pleased with how I ran last weekend and how I recovered. I was really worried that my arch and/or foot would do something weird but I didn't have any pain during or after the race. Quads only took 2 days to stop hurting so once I kick this flu I'll feel good as new. Part of me can't believe I ran both races and feel this good. Good luck Kyla - run fast and hard. Good luck to anyone else racing this weekend. Happy Thursday! Oh and snacks at work - fruit, fruit, fruit! I eat whatever is in season. Through the fall and early winter, I took 2-3 apples to work w/ me to snack sometimes adding peanut butter on them. Now I'm into oranges. I don't feel guilty eating several helping of fruit. And I keep lots of gum w/ me when I feel the need the chew on something but not necessarily hungry. |

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun with us!!! - Closed My coaching plans come in 3 month calendar blocks but there is lots of feedback and room for manipulation as needed. The idea is the training build, taper, race, recovery are all built into the calendar and it is easier in a 3 month block. At least that is how my coach operates and it works good for us. Communication and planning are the keys for this. I already have my season set, with the option of a few sprints thrown in as needed to work key points. We also discussed family schedules, travel, work (or lack there of for some of us) etc. I like it b/c I feel my coach is really committed to not only my workouts but making training and racing a part of my life. Sorry, that is probably way more than you wanted to know. Side note on the training calendar - I've put full trust in the calendar and have frequently said, "it's on the calendar so I have to do it." My husband is taking advantage of this and is trying to convince our coach to put things like pole dancing and other "cross training" activities on the calendar. MEN!! |
