Those of you on Strava may remember that I was stopped on a ride by a broken derailleur hanger a few weeks ago.  My bike had fallen while we were stopped on a pee break; a few km later, the hanger snapped, derailleur slightly bent, frame bent at the drop out.  My training partner/mechanic was able to bend the frame back but it had a small crack. Aluminum, so it was strong, and in such a place that it was supported and unlikely to be an issue.  But, the derailleur was not at 100% either and I certainly didn't have the money to replace the Di2 right now.  I have ridden it twice with no issues (long rides, 5.5 and 6+ hours), but there was some concern about packing it up and it making the trip to Denmark.  I was just praying that it would be okay and considering bringing my roadie as well just in case.

While on the ride mentioned, we had friends in town.  They were the friends I had stayed with during my first 70.3 in Calgary back in 2012.  They were staying with us and we went out that evening.  Unbeknownst to me, when I left the table briefly that evening, they asked my SO for my training partners number.  Over the past two and a half weeks, components for a new bike were purchased by my friends, through my TP, and he built me what you see below.  My friends own a business--so I guess that makes me sponsored (despite the fact that he wants no 'advertising' done by me).  I was taken over to my TP's place last night for 'coffee' and it was sitting there with a bow on it.  Gobsmacked I believe is what the term is.  Had a fit tonight.  Not the ideal to be getting on a new bike so close to race, but I gotta give it a go at least.

I gotta say I don't know what I have done to have such people in my life, but I hope I can continue to be so deserving...

That's so awesome! Congrats!

I got my bike is a similar fashion last summer. My husband and my coach went behind my back and had my bike built for me and when I came down the stairs one morning my bike was in the kitchen.

My bike's name is Frankie, which is short for Frankenbike. The frame was new, purchased at a huge discount through one of my coach's sponsors. The aero bars were new as well. All other components were used but in great condition. So my bike is like Frankenstein - original body with used parts!

GO RACING MANATEES!!!

Sorry, must go to bed. As in now, as in shoulda been there by now!

Quick proof o' life (and yes, I need as much proof of that right now as can do) ... from the bloggie.

THANK YOU for your great and constant love and support.

Am safely in Perth. Had an acute onset of illness, turned out to be an enlarged liver and elevated liver enzymes. Likely due to a strain of dengue I've already had, so THANK GOD not dengue (again!) but ill effects nevertheless

However, made it to Perth (was advised getting out, staying out, lying low for a few weeks was better than staying in Indonesia). Like a self med-evac. Ha.

{MELON PRESS} to all, and yes, Mutti and I could use and are very thankful for your prayers/thoughts/wishes.

Seattle has now broken the record for most days above 90 in a year in the span of a few months. And less than an inch of rain from May to July. Oh and no one has aircon. The good news is, I am acclimating to warm weather. Something I've never really done before.

Fly-by check-in because work is getting in the way of my Manatee duties.  WTH?!

Steve, hope you are feeling better; Salty--wow on the race and hike and I think you got CO summer weather this year!; Yanti, glad you're taking care of yourself; Stacey, good job on your race in the beautiful place; YAY JANYNE; and Kirsten, what a wonderful batch of family and friends you have.

Sorry if I missed anybody.  I've been totally swamped and just skimming the Pod recently.

I'm mostly recovered from last weekend.  I'm back to daily training and treating this week like a recovery week.  Our weather hasn't been too bad but this weekend will be in the 90's.  IM Boulder is this weekend (GO ROBIN!!) and will be brutal in that heat.  I'll be out on the run course cheering people on around mi. 20-21 and maybe being an impromptu aid station volunteer, depending on where I end up setting up.  Not sure I'll stay until midnight on a Sunday night, but I'll stay as late as I can.  I'm not going to head up to Boulder until later in the day, though, so I'm not at risk of heat stroke myself!

I'm SO behind on reading RR's.  I'll try to catch up this weekend and write my own as well....

I think the lack of rain stat has me more surprised than the days above 90.  Hopefully it's a dry (not humid) heat?

Yes, we do tend to have dry heat here when it's hot so that is excellent.

There's a big fire burning adjacent to a portion of the PCT we are going to run in a month, too. They have closed a 30 mile chunk and rerouted. The lack of rain in the forecast is very concerning. A scary summer for those wild fire fighters. We may have to reroute. Crossing my fingers we don't.

Yikes about the PCT issues.  Crossing my fingers for you and sending rainy thoughts.  I've heard about NoCal, where they're having triple digit heat and single digit humidity.  Scary stuff.  We've been very lucky here, with fewer hot days, higher humidity, and much more rain.  The vast majority of the state is even out of severe drought status for the first time in 6-7 years.

Yeah, it's been hot though a little cooler north.  You're right about acclimating physically and also learning more about sweat rates and adequate hydration to compensate for the heat.  I've been going through gallons of G2.

Good to hear you're feeling better.  I'm in non-derail mode at the moment, which is much more satisfying than the alternative.  "Shut up legs" (and various other body parts) is my current mantra.

No DL this week??  A big WOOOOOOOOT and happy dance!!  We won't count Yanti as being on the DL.  She's just resting.

I feel like her on the DL is much like death and taxes.

I think Robin's bib # is 1137 if anybody wants to stalk.  Robin, is that right?
