cami bee - 2008-09-17 10:58 AM Okay TAN, here's a mini-poll.  You must list 3 nerdy things about yourself.  The rules, they must be true and you can't try to diminish your nerdiness by following up with "cool" things about yourself.
1. Now that I'm single again, I have a system to ensure that all my dishes and silverware get equal usage. 2. I practice heel-and-toeing in everyday driving (that's more cool-nerdy than nerdy-nerdy though) 3. I think of a lot of everyday situations in terms of physics equations.

Well of course.  It would hurt the feelings of the dishes that don't get used as much.  I always feel sad for the plate at the bottom of the stack.  It hardley gets used, and it must feel like "it's not worthy" to be used for a meal.  So sad.

I guess I should answer my own poll.

1. I crunch numbers in my head.  A lot.  Sometimes I do it when I should be paying attention to other things.  I just think it's fun.

2.  I love the X-FILES.  Well the first few seasons anyway.  Sometimes my mom and I have very drawn out conversations about the show, we can go on for hours.

3.  I often use xterms/cygwin because it's 'just easier' for me to use sometimes.

Everything about me screams nerd...

  • Engineer
  • Love Chess
  • Love discovery channel and science shows
  • Love cooking shows
  • Had a chemistry set as a kid
  • build loudspeakers
  • make wine
  • love mind twister games
  • take mensa tests for fun
  • love ballet and the opera
  • do math problems in my head while working out
  • Like reading non-fiction
  • Love history channel
  • And so on, and so on, and so on....

Oh, there's lots more that I could list too. But she asked for 3.

1. I like Star Trek. The original, not any of those stupid spinoffs. TNG was OK, I guess.
2. As a child I'd write plays and then act them out on my own, using a tape recorder.
3. If I didn't stay out on Fridays so late (or fly back) I'd get up and watch Saturday morning cartoons and eat cereal while wearing pajamas with footies.

My high school teacher used a lot of fancy person talk, so I learned a lot of great words.

PLUS, my mom and dad are both PHD's, so kind of smart....

I feel kind of dumb with a silly old master's.....

Masters = the new Associates.

Ouch, dude. I have a Master's. Had thought about the PhD, but it would have been in something useless (Literature of some kind, since that's what I have my Master's in) so I figured it wasn't worth another 8 years probably without any funding...

I wouldn't do a PhD if I wasn't getting funding.  I don't think we could handle that.  Hopefully, my master's + PhD is 7 years at the most.  I kind of wish I could be done next year, but I don't know that it's going to happen.

Dangit I want some junk food.  But I can't.  My BF% went up from July 3 to now even with a lot of working out and racing.  Can't get used to eating like that going into the winter.

How the f*** did you end up with your wife again exactly??? You were like KING of the nerds! Did they build a shrine to your nerddom when you finally scored with a female? A human female, that is?

Haha, when I was younger (like 9 or 10), I'd act out entire musicals in my living room, complete with costumes. All by myself, and not for anyone in particular. When I got older, my best friend and I would act out musical numbers and skits and record them with the camcorder. They were actually pretty funny, in some cases.

How long have you been working on your degrees?  I have a friend who did a MS/PhD in Biochem and it took her just over seven years.  Degrees in our department go much quicker, a lot depends on your area.  And I agree with you on the funding aspect.

Started in 2004.  I got a Master's in Bioinformatics in 2006. Switched projects completely for my PhD.  So, really 2 years of work on this project, but I don't have to take any new classes for my PhD.
