Marine Corps Marathon : Official Thread (Page 6)

So excited!  USAir has esavers to DC this weekend from Charlotte!  $90 round trip to Regan (and Dulles).  Booked the whole family for $330 including taxes!  Not gonna like the 5:45am flight on Monday but I figure I will passed out by 7pm Sunday night anyways so getting up shouldn't be a problem!

Sure is better than a 411 mile drive on Sunday!   WOOOOOOOOO HOO!  NO DC TRAFFIC NIGHTMARES FOR ME :-) 

Well the race weekend is here. HAVE FUN!! and RUN WELL.

They have already started to put up the big sign towers in the parking lot at the Pentagon, very cool.

Now I just need to figure out how to get over here on Sunday.  One of the few times that living so close is a problem.  I am going to see how the metro works from Rosslyn over.  I usually try to avoid metro on any race day around here.

For the Army 10 miler I just ran from home, big difference running 16 miles vs 32.2....

Sunday can't come soon enough.  I have been willing my cold away for a week and it is starting to make it's way in.

Rosslyn was the busiest stop last year.  Last year, I got on the orange line at Ballston and took it to the stop after Rosslyn, then transferred to the blue line.  It worked really well.

How early are you guys getting there.  LOL, I prefer about 5 minutes before start time.  On the website it says get there 2 hrs early which sounds ridiculous.  I assume they do the hand scanner same as Army 10 miler and I got there 5 minutes before race start.  Is there anything else?

I was offered an injured runner's number, but it ain't the same as running the Army 10 miler on a week's notice, is it?

stayed with my father the whole time, felt great.  he was suffering but hung in there.  he's 73.  we finished in 4:44.  it was my 5th MCM.

Who knew that marathon was so damn long!  My legs turned to jello at the mile 23 turn around in CC and I shuffled the last 2 miles down the interstate to finish my first marathon!  Turned in a respectable 3:32 for a first timer (and only trained on the Higdon Novice plan). 

It feels awesome to add "marathoner" to my list of accomplishments!  Two years ago I was 30lbs overweight and hadn't run a mile since high school!

PS - could it have been any freaking nicer out today?  Damn it was fine for running!!! 

Wow, what a great time, congratulations.

I stunk it up out there finished 30 minutes behind my planned time.  Oh, well, there is always next year.

Pretty amazing to see so many runners and spectators out there.

It was a nice day, but the wind sucked.  Especially around the point and back to the finish in CC.  I did about as well as I could have expected.  Started out feeling good so I ran with the 3:10 group until about mile 10 or so.  Then I let them go and tried to settle into a little slower pace.  Started pooping out at 16 just like at B-More two weeks ago, and really started to fall off by 20.  Even though I hit 20 at just under 2:30 I dropped a lot of time the last 10k.

Finished in 3:24:26 (by my watch).  Can't complain.  Faster than Baltimore since it was a flatter course even though I obviously was not fully recovered from that race.  I'll take it!

Congrats to all and especially Traci for knocking about 20 minutes off of her time from last year!!  You rock!

This race taught me an important lesson for future marathons and Ironmans... trust the heart rate monitor. I had a bit of a cold and an injured left foot that meant almost no running for the two weeks before the race. I guess it compromised my fitness more than I realized. I hit the big hill going up Lee Highway and my heart rate spiked up to 167. My legs felt so good and ego made me keep going - no way I was going to back off and let all those people run by me - anyway I never could get my heart rate back down. Average HR for the race was 167 with Max 187. Needless to say I hit the wall hard at 20 miles - right as you get to the 14th St bridge. My pace dropped from 8 to 9.5 and the next 6.2 miles were some of the toughest I've ever run. Next time I will stick to the plan. 

It was still a PR in my second marathon at 3:44:14.

So far for the year 2 marathons, 9 triathlons (6 olys), 1 half-marathon, 2 Ten-milers, 1 8k ...... still 2 months to the end of the year

You can actually download a HQ version of your finish by doing this:

When you find your video, press the menu button on the video player.  Then press the embed button.
Find the <param name="movie" value="yadda yadda yadda"> and copy the value of the "yadda yadda" into a web browser. 
This will display a higher quality version.  Now hit the same menu button again.  Select download.  Each clip runs about 200mb.  It is great if you have a movie editor for your camcorder. 

Finally got out of my post-race funk and wrote up my race report. 

I checked out the finish line footage.  I looked like a zombie!
