Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread 2 hour ride done. Felt great!i was diligent about taking a drink every 15 min for the first hour and then completely forgot to drink the last hour. However, I was starving at mile 25. Hmmm. Need to try to bring some type of bar but my stomach isn't a fan of eating and working out. I never ate during the half iron bike. Hope everyone is having a great weekend! |

Do you listen to music or podcast on long runs?Going to try and get a 2+ hour bike ride in tomorrow. I'm going to try to focus on nutrition. What different things does everyone eat and drink? I do Infinite custom drink on rider over 3 hours. For runs over ~90 minutes I'm a huge fan of Honey Stinger chews. |

Regular 108 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread thats a rough 2 hours Brian on the trainer, respect to ya! Lisa, so if you have a workout less than 3hours you generally dont use too much nutrition?.. I ask as when i ride about 2 hours or so I never feel like i need to start my replenishment until maybe the 90 minute mark, but Ive been led to believe I should be starting it in the first 30 mins. I understand that after an hours swim, sure i will start my 20min intakes straight away but when im starting cold on the bike it doesnt feel like i need to for the first hour. Akrenik, impressed and glad you were ok not taking anything on board during your bike in the HIM. Ref, the alarms we all were chatting about, thats why i have to use one or i fear Id forget to take something until it was too late. On a complete self indulgent "Big Me Up, GO ME!' theme, I wanted to share my weight loss which im pretty proud of (hope this isnt obnoxious of me), Jan 1st - 187lbs, Feb 1st 171lbs.. pretty chuffed with that.. Not usually - on the bike anyway. I try to eat a real meal (typically breakfast time) before heading out for my long rides so to be fair I start with a full tummy. If I know I'm going to be out more than ~3 hours I"ll start at 30 minutes in. But less than 2.5 or 3 hours I typically don't need much on the bike. |

6 | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Anybody have reliable data for the elevation gain for this route? I've looked at a couple MapMyRide reports that put the total gain around 2,000, but the website says slightly less than "4,000 feet of climbing." Could 4,000 feet of climbing also mean descending? |

Hi Akrenik - I listen to music on most of my long runs, There's a podcast called "running to the beat" that I listen to also, I listen to music on my rides too, on the rides I'll play little games like trying to maintain a certain cadence all throughout a song, things like that. For my nutrition, I'm trying Accelerade, I used it on my ride Sunday and it seemed pretty good, I like the drinks and chews better than gu. |

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Hey Kenb thanks for the inspire. Anything over 2 hours on the trainer is tough. How I look at it is a way to practice focusing and if I have to stop to rest the bottom and continue on. Hopefully it will come in handy setting the tone for those times when the negative thoughts enter my head during the race.

Expert 1276 Salem | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread donwah - Congrats on the weight loss. Heading that way myself although I am starting at a much bigger deficit. I am heading to a Yoga class tonight - first time - want to see if it will help with my flexibility and core. After I am going to get my swim in early. I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow night and a early meeting so working out tomorrow may not be an option. Have a great training week everyone. Starting week 9. |

What do any of you eat before a long ride? I have a half marathon in 2 weeks so doing my last long run, shooting for 9 or 10 miles. Will also do my normal 2-hour spin bike spin the day before. I'm not really starting my "plan" for Vineman till 20 weeks out, so just kind of maintaining right now. I used to do oats/oatmeal and peanut butter before long rides. But in week 1 of Paleo not sure what I will do this weekend... stay tuned |

Expert 977 Huntington Beach | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Brian-That sounds like a crazy busy weekend! Did you get it all in?
I rode 53 miles on Sunday. That was my longest bike ride in probably a year or more. Felt pretty good. First half was hilly and the second half was nice and flat I made a pbj sandwich and took some big ol bites out of it when I was stopped at signals. I am thinking that is a good fuel for me. Tasted yummy and no stomach issues. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread I did 10 miles on a treadmill yesterday - it actually wasn't bad. I made a huge breakfast of eggs and veggies scrambled, and bacon. Then before the run I ate a pack of Honey Stinger chews. Felt great! |

Veteran 395 Henderson,NV | Subject: RE: Full Vineman Triathlon : Official Thread Had a good run Saturday, I was supposed to get in a 4 hour ride on Sunday with a run brick following, but just couldn't get anything right, on a course that I usually can do at 13 or 14 mph, I was struggling to get in 11 mph. I got frustrated and bagged it for the rest of the day. It was disappointing, and I can't blame equipment or weather or even nutrition , just me. Now it's a matter of principal. I need to redeem myself on my next long ride. |
