It almost seems bizarre to me how the media has avoided it in the coverage I've seen. It's not like he was acquitted. He accepted a plea deal and and plead guilty to obstruction of justice in a double homicide case-- a case that is still technically "unsolved". I know it's all about football now, but you think if they're doing career retrospectives on Ray, they would at least mention it. (snip) (Full disclosure: I grew up in Baltimore, but left before the Ravens existed, so while I do root for them, I’m by no means a die-hard fan.) I don’t think that it’s been “swept under the rug”. You’re talking about something that happened more than a decade ago, and which was already adjudicated, regardless of whether you like the results or not. Given that it’s already been tried, and that several of the victims’ family members are bound by confidentiality agreements not to discuss the case further (as part of the settlement they got after they sued Ray Lewis for millions), there isn’t much new information that’s likely to come out. Given that, what would be the purpose of bringing up the case again? Should the media bring it up every time they mention his name? “And the ballcarrier is brought down at the thirty-two by Lewis who, you may remember, was allegedly involved in a murder back in 2000 in Atlanta and pled guilty to obstruction of justice. So, it’ll be a third and seven for Denver…” There was an article just the other day that someone posted on BT, so it’s not like it isn’t getting mentioned, but the article isn’t really much more than a retrospective because, at this point, there isn’t much more to say about it. Given that it’s been tried already, and given that he pled guilty to obstruction and served his (admittedly light) sentence, and given that he already paid huge settlements to the families of the victims, and has, by almost any standard you want to use, been a model citizen and teammate ever since, I don’t know what the point would be to endlessly re-hash this. And not to mention the really bad point... that the two that were charged were acquitted. Not like they took the fall for Ray... they were acquitted. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kido - 2013-01-14 9:27 AM I had this awful nightmare that the Broncos gave away a game to Baltimore with defensive, offensive, and play calling mistakes. When do they play for real?
They seemed "off" the whole game but I will look past even all of that (like Baily looking like an old man, some questionable calls, and a pick and fumble AND one of the best defenses giving up 38) But HOW does a safety give up that last play? Are you kidding? Then you have MANNING with 30 seconds or so AND 2 timeouts and you don't even TRY to get move the ball 50 yards and wait for OT? Then a 3 and 13 with Baltimore on their 3 and you give up 20 and THEN you force them to punt which puts you on your own 5? Just sickening. yea, but it should never have come down to that last play. too many screw-ups all around. I felt they played uninspired. Yea, they are professionals and should be able to look past all the hype and get themeslves motivated for their "A-game" in the playoffs. But they didn't. When the entire team lays an egg like that you have to look at coaching. No, I'm not starting something that Fox should be fired. But he took the Ravens lightly and failed to get his team firing on all cylinders. One thing for sure, there is some major azz chewing going on today at Dove Valley. |

I bet a free safety is going to be looking for a job. I just don't think Elway will put up with that. Even though Peyton had his fair share of mistakes - quarterback love. Giving up that TD stick in my head most. But they should have gone on 4th down. If they make a first, it's over. If not, they still have a way to go with LESS time. Then they have 30 seconds, 2 time outs, and Peyton Manning to go 30-35 yards for Prater in the thin air of Denver to try and win it without even going to OT. Listening to sports radio today is like having a bandaid ripped off. They keep talking about how crazy that end was and all the things done wrong. Ouch. |

![]() | ![]() JMK, you have a good point, but you go off the rails with your announcer's call. It should be: "And that pass interference call was on Lewis who, you may remember, was allegedly involved in a murder back in 2000 in Atlanta and pled guilty to obstruction of justice. So, it’ll be a first and ten after the pass interference because Lewis can no longer cover receivers, tight ends, or running backs." |

Something like, "Lewis knifes his way into the backfield and delivers a lethal blow to the quarterback, much in the same way Ray's buddies may have done in premeditated fashion to two bar patrons back in Atlanta in 2000. Boy, Ray timed that blitz beautifully, shedding the blocker much like he allegedly shed that expensive white suit in a fast food restaurant's dumpster on the night of that double homicide. Of course, the whole key to the play was misdirection, much like Ray offered up to police when he was initially questioned about the incident. As we look now at the replay, it appears Ray may have gotten away with some illegal use of the hands, but I guess the officials were looking the other way. And we'll look away now too as we once again-- for the 327th time-- show you that hair-raising entrance Ray made at his last game in Baltimore, this time in slow-motion and set to the music of The Killers' rousing anthem 'All These Things That I Have Done'!" |

Yes, but i plan to remain silent until after the game next week. Although, my thought before the Denver game was this could be 1999 all over. |

![]() Does anyone think that icing the kicker actually works? Especially when calling the timeout right before the snap and giving the kicker a practice shot. I could understand if you called the timeout well before the snap (like they always did 5+ years ago) so there is no practice attempt to make the kicker think...but why give him a practice attempt. Why would a coach think that giving a kicker a practice attempt would somehow make him less likely to make the second kick? Is there any reasonable logic to it? Or do coaches do it just because other coaches have done it in more recent history? ETA: I would actually think that NOT calling a timeout would be more effective. Kickers might "think" you're going to call a timeout and when you don't, that might throw them off just a fraction. Once you call a timeout...the kicker knows you can't call consecutive timeouts...so that is one less thing the kicker needs to worry about mentally. If I were a coach...I would try to get into the kickers peripheral vision (if possible) and run furiously down the sidelines to the lines judge faking like you were going to call a timeout right before the snap.

No, video replay clearly shows him telling the ref time out. The only semi controversy is he claims the refs told him there would be no practice kicks allowed a la Bryant's first missed attempt. |

I'd be telling my center that as soon as you hear a whistle, snap the ball so we can get a practice kick in. You could always claim you didnt hear the whistle. The one I thought was crazy was Baltimore's kicker out there between OT periods practicing the exact kick he made to win the game. I have never seen that before. |
