Not an interview just ... a casual meeting. She was totally game so I sent her a meeting planner and she just accepted it. Now I have no idea what I should say in the meeting!!!!! Help! WTH happened with the other interview/job op???? I can't get outta here and you have to juggle opportunities. What gives?!? Congrats!!!!!!!!! Well, it was between China and Korea and they think that my passion for sustainability is not a good fit for China (which is true) so I got the Korea one. I just made my transition this week. But really that's not what I want to do ultimately. And this other team is REALLY where I want to be (and have for years.) But getting on is the trick. I just don't want to throw myself at her when we meet up. I want it to be clear I am looking for an opportunity but do it in a smart way. I just don't know how to do that. |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Mutant Manatee Mentors 4--CLOSED Oh, and I guess I should be a little more specific. So, what I do is design the stores. Everything. The layout, the furniture, the paint, architectural features. Everything. Now, in some regions we work in, environmental sustainability is a small part of what we do. We incorporate a variety of techniques to meet a set of standards. But other markets don't do this (for a variety of reasons.) So often times I will be working on projects that do not incorporate it at all. The "gold" standard for verification and implementation is called LEED. I am LEED accredited and am often the go to on our LEED projects. Now, the team I want to be on is essentially the LEED team that manages all of the process. All of the verification/certifications go through them. So, I wouldn't be doing nearly as much directly creative work but I would be doing something more inline with something I care deeply about. You don't have to throw yourself at her. But do show your passion for LEED, and your desire to be in a position that allows you to really work your passion. I don't think there is anything wrong with being very honest/blunt about what you want to do. I understand the reluctance to be overbearing, but I think that only shows up when someone is not being authentic about their passion--someone who is trying to look like they are passionate about something but in reality are not. |

What do they have that makes you want to be with them? More important, what do you have that makes their team better with you on it? I think I sort of answered this in what I just wrote, but since I am working on being blunt and specific. Why? Because I want to be part of something that makes a difference in the world. Buildings are responsible for an overwhelming amount of energy consumption, raw material use, water consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions. We have the ability to limit the way we impact those things with small ECONOMICAL changes and I want to be a part of that. What makes me want to be on that team is the fact that they are the one department in the building that has a DIRECT impact on the above. I think the biggest thing I bring to the team is my passion and my desire to make a change. |

When I was a kid we lived in rural Colorado and the neighbor gave my mom goats milk for free so that's what we drank. Hated it! You cannot make that stuff taste good, even with chocolate cereal! I do like some goats milk cheeses, i.e. feta, but not if they smell to goat-y |

He is proving to be a very funny and interesting speaker. Unfortunately, we have boring speakers this afternoon. So I will need this pod to keep me entertained this afternoon! Very cool about James Reese, he sounds fascinating; boo to boring afternoon speakers. He is awesome. I first started reading about him in Dead Men Do Tell Tales (forensic anthropology) and have since done a lot more. So very cool that you get to hear him! Does he sound like Ben Stein? Training hs been dire due to the weather and my wimpy attitude. Will be hitting the tarmac for my first race on Sunday- the Lincoln 10k race. Had to give my 'race' bike back but i am currently testing a cannondale from my LBS in preparation for my upcoming sprints, oly distance and HIM scheduled for August. Froggy, you are talking to fast for me. What race schedule? You know that I need details! Re: bike shopping, several podmates are also shopping! Fun stuff! Lucky enough to have my best friend of 42 years working at a decent bike shop. So far I have managed to try out a Giant defy 3 and 1 (The 1 was obviously better, but the feeling was more than just the uprated shimano gear components) I had a brief go on a Focus Culhebro but picked up a puncture almost immediatley. Next week i test ride the Cannondale Sora and possibly the Tiagra. Exciting times for me. Love the cycling element. |
