Yeah but the upshot is that GD threads are filled with fantastic advice. I'm sure many have been helped as a result. Shane |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() A long time ago someone posted the theory that GatorDeb didn't really exist but was a fictional character created by someone on ST, to post crazy stuff on BT and then laugh as we all tried to help. I thought this was nuts at the time but following this thread has me wondering about that theory again. The, "I loved my group classes so much that I went back to them" comment is almost like poking the bear to see if it (we) will react and what we will say. It is almost impossible to believe that anyone could truly be this obstinate in the face of so many people giving pretty darn reasonable advice...... The upside is, as Shane pointed out, some really good reading and some great information about triathlon training. I can't wait for the next thread. This has been fun. Maybe a CDA recap..... |

Deb had given me her coaches information, and she in fact a "real coach". Not just a friend. But everyone's skill set and how they coach is different. I'll give her coach the benefit of a doubt here, as we don't know Deb inside/out. We don't know what her coach has to "manage" through the coaching relationship (injuries, etc.). Unless we are involved in what's going on, we don't have the whole story. So I hate to put her coach to the fire on all of this. I agree with that Karen, which is why I qualified my advice regarding the coach. However, if the information given is correct (that the coach is knowingly assigning training sessions based on what are obviously incorrect heart rate zones), then the coach is either not competent or doesn't care about her client's results. Is there another possibility besides those two or that something significant is being lost in Deb's explanation of the situation? Do you think Deb is only this way on BT? It could be a matter of the coach getting the most training possible out of the athlete based on what they are able to get the athlete to believe. |

I have my own "Deb" who I coach with some similar issues, but there's no way I'd waste my time and my client's time and money using numbers that I know are wrong. I can't even think of a scenario where it would make sense.TriMyBest - 2013-04-26 3:16 PM KSH - 2013-04-26 3:38 PM LittleCat - 2013-04-26 8:41 AM My guess is that the coach is not truly a coach, but a friend who is 'coaching' her. It may be that GD wanted to complain and whine about her speed and didn't want to change anything. I think most who post here with questions want to learn and improve. Oh, I have heard it said many times. Women want to talk about stuff... men want to fix it. Thus, when they communicate they can sometimes butt heads. Am I that way? Not usually, but I can be. I'm typically a straight shooter. My boyfriend knows I say what I mean. No reading between the lines. When I want to vent, I just tell him I'm venting. With regards to BT... yes, MOST of the people here post because they want honest answers with suggestions for improvement. I'm certainly NOT saying that all the women who post here aren't asking for a "fix". But I think I think we have seen that GD probably just wanted to "talk" and here we are trying to "fix" it and she probably (obviously!) doesn't want it to be "fixed". |

You have to see the beauty in finding that next level inside your body... that moment where you feel like your quads are going to burn off and your lungs are going to explode... and yet, you keep going... embrace it. If you don't you will never get faster. See, some people love that feeling. They seek it out. Others avoid it. You decide which one you are through your attitude. |
