How many of you have a list or lists going?

Accomplished today:

Today my new Pro 3 Lights arrived so I can put them for 4 hour ride tomorrow
Bought 2 more am/pm pill containers for Nuuns and Salt Tabs back ups in SNs
Bought black zip ties in 3 sizes which are needed for my TorHans aerobottle & speed sensor

I have a box upstairs and need to start my pile of bike stuff and nutrition.

List underway, day of gear all washed, purchased small med items for transition and SN bags, batteries for gagits, small flash light, zip lock bags etc.

Can't post a picture of the bike as it is at the LBS for a final tune up.  Collecting it in a couple of days after a brief work trip (the first one this year where I won't be taking ANY kit !).

Like many I've come through a brief mental wobble about getting out and doing the last bit of training during taper. I wonder if anyone has done any scientific studies of people who are training minds or bodies for a big event over a long period of time : I think it might be universal that there is a short period in the doldrums after nearly all the hard work/studying has been done but before the actual event itself.  Had this thought on my last longish ride at the weekend and it helped for, oh, about a couple of miles.

See everyone down in PCB next week.  Is anyone going to be swimming on Wednesday morning early ?

HI TEAM IM FLORIDA!

OK so a few days ago I was really struggling.  I so didnt want to train anymore.  i have heard this is normal but wow i was really down...I gutted it out and rode 80 freezing cold miles and ran 5 on sat then swam in a 62 degree lake on sunday with a ride after...

Now I am in taper...It feels so weird...I feel like my life has been in suspended animation for six months.  I have some runs, swims and a bike or two left...but then its Halloween, packing and then I am in Florida.  I am an emotional wreck.  LOL..  I had a moment on the bike (alone of course) where I just started getting all weepy...I feel I am in the best shape of my life.  I have been without alcohol for almost a month, now I am getting off caffine...Its like so strange..I am the super disciplined person I always knew I could be.  I am so proud of all of us...we trained and trained and stuck to our goals...finish or not...deep down I feel so damn proud of myself for what I have done so far.  I dont hate Ironman anymore (see post from last week)...Im excited, nervous but mostly really ready to go out and slog through my 16 or so hours...BTW I expect to see you all at the finisher store on sunday am...I will be the girl with a bottle of champagne in one hand and her medal in the other...who cares if its 9am?   Its Ironman....

Glad to see you are back on the wagon   Soon, soon.......

I too have lived on Uncrustables this summer for my rides.  I'll have them at the race too.  Other than that, pretty much everything I take will be 100 cal per serving so I plan on mixing the following: Powerbar Gels, Jelly Belly jelly beans, Cliff bar (pieces), Cliff shots and Fig Newtons.

This way it doesn't matter what I take as long as I take one of the above every 30 minutes supplemented with Ironman Perform and water I'll be OK.  Trying to keep it simple.  On the run I will live off the course.

Three more distance swims, 1 trainer ride, 1 track workout, a 2:30 easy bike and a 1 hr easy run then it's time to go!  Can't believe we are so close.

enjoy,

Duane

My bike is a 93 Kestrel 200SCI 7 speed with profile aerobar add-ons with Easton EA50 Aero wheels.

Gotta take this one to my 1st Ironman.. (good Karma!!).  If I plan to pursue another long distance tri I will upgrade to a new bike eventually.

I am the queen of lists: packing list, race list, food list/menu, list for the dog going to the Grandparents...I have quite the spreadsheet built I have been feeling pretty meh thanks to some knee pain but gave myself a nice pep talk during tonight's swim so I am good to know. Gotta just take it as it comes! I will get a better pic of my bike up, but pretty much everything I am packing is pink, so I shouldn't be hard to spot.

I have my list and and a stack of gear already sitting out to be packed. Heck I have had some of my gear sitting out since after IMWI this year (race tires, SNB stuff) ready to go.

I plan on packing this weekend, right after I make my Halloween costume (going as a gold fish). I have 5 days left to work, and then I am off until Nov 15th whoohoo!  I am excited about FL. I will post a picture of Vader(my bike) and of what I will be wearing.

Gave my wetsuit a bath overnight. Out of the three primary races this year, one was not wetsuit legal and one had the swim canceled so I've not worn it at all for this season. I let it soak overnight before my first wetsuit race each year per Emilio's suggestion. But this time it's got to be dry enough to pack

Learnt some lessons this weekend about soild food in take on the bike and not a big fan so I might do these minis PB&J should be easy 120 cals per little sandwitch

I've been using the Power Bar - Pure and Simple Energy Bars (Roasted Peanut Butter). Easy to carry, easy to chew up. Tried a few other bars and these work best for me, some bars I felt like I was choking trying to drink it down was taking to much effort.

May toss a PBJ in the SN bag.

I have been living on uncrustables this entire summer for all my rides. Keep them frozen and by the time eat them they are defrosted and great!

If you haven't used them (repeatedly) in training and haven't run off of long bikes while using them I would be really cautious about using them on race day.  Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on wheat sandwich minis (or whatever that package is) have both fat and fiber -- both of which can cause serious GI issues especially on the run.  In addition if you overcook, which there is definitely a propensity to do, especially at Florida, you're shut down your GI system.  That's bad enough as it is, but its even worse if you have fat and fiber sitting in your stomach.

Putting aside the fact that you haven't used these in training, here's an interesting article about the perils of using fat and fiber generally (and peanutbutter and oatmeal in particular) as race day foods: http://kropelnicki.com/?p=146

I agree nothing new on race day. Blog by Jessie was quite interesting as oatmeal is a big pre race meal I read about over and over in Race Reports...thanks for sharing that Kelly.

What is everyone doing today?

I have 4 hour bike, need to make progress with packing, changing tires, finalize bike accessories checking things out in ride today.

Who is planning on going to Athlete's Dinner Thursday?

I encourage first timers to go.

It would be a good time to meet up, chat and sit together.

Anyone want to coordinate meeting up and saving some tables?

I've been reading the food is not worthwhile
BUT

I've never been to a WTC IM and I have no idea what all to do for (organ music) THE EXPERIENCE so I'm hip on suggestions.

Mandatory briefings, I've found, are only highly recommended and generally only have whether you can clip your shoes onto your bike or not as the changes and you really don't miss anything if you forget to go. Is that the same here?

If all the BTers are going to the dinner, I'd be more than happy to come on over and meet y'all!

I looked at my cloths after I read your post and noticed my tri shorts have refelctive stuff and tri top and my hat. They are all logos of the companies but I figure if I stay inside the cones and on the side of the road while running I should not have a problem getting hit by a car.

I've never had an issue with no reflective gear. You do get a glow stick or necklace..last year it was a stick w/o a string...stupid. Some folks write stuff on their tri tops with reflective tape.

I suspect I'll have a vest or jacket on later on run and both have reflective material at various places.

Let's see -  lists?

1. Race day packing    2. Food list   3. non-race/post-race list (camera, computer, compression socks, etc)   4. transition bag lists - 1 for T1, 1 for T2   5. Special Needs bag lists - 1 for bike, 1 for run.   6. Itinerary/Travel list - yup, driving from Texas.   7. Stuff to Buy/pick up list   8. To-Do list

Who needs lists?

Brief scare this past weekend... took the bike to work with me since i had a post-desk job ride planned. Got out of the truck and saw that one shifter had broken off. Realized it must have hit the top of the parking garage. Only a matter of a centimeter or two because the other shifter, which was turned a bit lower, was fine. Goofball - the ONLY time I have put the bike in the truck bed instead of the back seat! Could have been a whole LOT worse.

I too have done the math in my head, multiple times. I am a very slow runner, but I feel like once you break it down, it still works out to be manageable. The way I look at it, I will have 2 consecutive Ironman PRs - this one at somewhere slightly under 17, and IMAZ 2012 where I hope to beat the first one.

And someone please tell me this will not be a big deal:

http://www.weather.com/weather/hurricanecentral/storms/2011/Rina

Frown

- Most models forecast Rina to significantly weaken while moving eastward toward Cuba or southern Florida later this week or this weekend, while some forecast it to dissipate over Yucatan; only one model currently forecasts a hurricane to reach southern Florida, and this scenario appears unlikely due to increasing wind shear later this week

- Those in southern Florida should closely monitor Rina since the long-range forecast is very uncertain and impacts there such as tropical storm conditions are slightly possible

I'm a first timer and plan to go to get the whole IM experience, and heck I paid for it might as well go!  I think the 4 of us staying in our condo all plan to go as well.

I don't mind collecting phone number and getting a sheet together and sending it out, if everyone wants to PM me their cell numbers and email addresses.
