I had to get rid of my Guinea Pig when once I woke up and he was standing on my chest with a tiny butcher knife with a very disconcerting grin on his little guinea pig face.

My hamster was standing on my chest with a tiny cell tower ready to zap me with cancer.  So I flushed him down the toilet.

Anyone here have meniscus surgery? I am wondering what my recovery time will be like after this Friday. I want to get back to working out after this if it makes all the pain in my knee go away.

Mine was easy-peasy. Used crutches for a couple of days even though the doc said no need. I was healed in a month. Mine wasn't clicking or out of joint, just a good amount of pain right in the center of the joint. Snip, snip, clean clean and home I went. Swimming in 2 weeks with a pull-buoy, then riding and running about 8 week post surgery. No PT necessary.

I've heard this from others too.

When did you have this done?  Mine was 18 years ago.  So maybe things have improved since then.  I also had about 1/2 the cartilage taken out.

I had my right done in 1987 and it was indeed week on crutches, 3 months of PT. Worst part is, it was a torn ACL and the scope didn't really solve anything. The one I describe above was my left knee and that was 2009. So easy and so relieving.

OHHH!

ACL is lateral movement.  So you should be fine running/swimming pretty quick after that if it's done right.

Meniscus in 2009 makes sense.  Arthroscopic surgery has really improved in the last 30 years.  My mom did knee surgery on Deacon Jones.  Cut his knee open entirely to do something that would be an outpatient arthroscopic thing nowadays.

My library offers them but I never tried it.  I'm assuming it's similar to borrowing them from another kindle user.  I borrow them from my moms all the time.

There is a kindle app you put on any phone/tablet/pc.  I'm not sure if it's only Kindle or any ebook reader could read them?

I don't have a kindle, but my library offers them for either kindle apps or other ereaders that meet the software requirements.

I was just wondering if anyone's tried borrowing an ebook from the library yet?

Hi Tan - saw a question I could answer!

Yep, get them all the time.  No problems. Depending on the book there can be a wait but they email you when they are available - and then you get the book for 21 days with my library and it deletes itself after that.  Love it - hardly ever buy books.

There isn't always everything new but still a pretty good selection for the company that the library contracts with. I read Tyler Hamilton's book as an e-book from the library and have embarked on the 'book crack' that is the Outlander series.

That is really a good idea and I think about it all the time.  And rarely do I go back and reread books.  But there is some part of me that like to "collect" books I read.  That's one thing I don't like about the Kindle.  I worry that it could all disapear (doubtful) and I like looking at all my bookcases of books I will never read again!

I don't buy anything new now.  Just on Kindle.  But believe it or not, felt like getting rid of the "real" books and buying them again on Kindle because I had an urge to reread all the Clancy books again and the Kindle is so damned convenient.

Oh, the ONLY time it's not?  Take off and landing.  They make me turn it off when it's perfect reading time.  Or when I'm sweating on the trainer.

Yay!  Thanks so much for this, it makes me feel just a tad better to know that someone has borrowed ebooks from the library with success!

As for the Outlander series, that's one that left me heartbroken to donate the entire set when I moved to the UK and it's one that I WILL eventually be buying again.  I've also suggested this particular book crack to others with excellent success.

You got me thinking.  Maybe I should run it by the wife to get rid of them (books).  I think it's ammusing I have all my college text books taking space and haven't cracked them open since the early 90's.  If I really want/need them again, I could re-buy the ebook version.

general anesthesia is nice.  one minute you are in the little prep room, the next minute you are dizzy and in the recovery room.  fun times.  ignore the horror stories.  in college i volunteered in anesthesia and never once saw something go wrong.

I hate general anesthesia unless I am really well medicated after I come to.  I do not react well to a number of the anesthesia types .  I wake up shaky and and feeling lousy.  It wears off without any lasting effects but those first few hours suck!

I honestly didn't want my wife or FIL there when I woke up.  I was afraid I would say something completely out of line after my Thyroid surgery.

Comming out of it is weird.  There are brief moments of clarity that I SORT of recall where I asked a bunch of questions, then fade out, then come back and ask them all again.  3-4 times.

There was some medical channel on cable once and they showed a knee replacement surgery from beginning to end.  I was shocked how rough they were.  I sort of thought surgery was delicate.  But they had serious power tools and hammers and chisles and just going to town, like they were building a book case or something.

I am still freaked a little I have never had a general and been knocked out. Tell people you are and all of a sudden you hear every horror story of anyone who's uncles brothers mothers distant cousin seen

general anesthesia is nice.  one minute you are in the little prep room, the next minute you are dizzy and in the recovery room.  fun times.  ignore the horror stories.  in college i volunteered in anesthesia and never once saw something go wrong.

3-4 times.

you are also likely to say weird stuff in that first few minutes after they start the anesthesia.  last surgery i had i asked my husband to leave the prep room before they hit the button, and he couldn't come into recovery until i came to.  he was like "what are you afraid to say around me, huh!?!!??"

Thanks Matt and Dave

I appreciate the input and hope that the recovery is going to go well.  I am glad it is taking place over the winter and off season. I will work at it properly to bring it back.

Yeah but now you talk funny and can't read good.

I think that's because she lives near cell towers.
