Chris, just before the cannon went off in my own first ironman. Mike Riley said over the PA: "Remember athletes: there will be many things that happen today that are beyond your control. The one thing you CAN control is your attitude." Great advice anytime. But especially good with the weekend you have experienced. Sincerely hoping the very worst is behind you. And you know this: we will all be following you along anxiously, living your day vicariously through IM live. Between you and Paris Roubaix, my internet is going to be put through its paces!! Good luck, my friend!

Sorry Rusty, but understandable considering your wife's situation.

I had a nice (although why does it rain every time I ride?) ride this am.

2 hours with 10x5' at threshold.

Overall held a NP of about 270 for the ride.

Getting there....

You're still a beast.  I'm riding again but I feel like a slug right now.  I'm hoping the commute rides (with a hefty backpack) will make the weekend ones seem easier.

I had a strong ride today. Hoping the weather holds out for another moderate ride tomorrow.

Ok - I don't know how these wave start/time trial 70.3s work, but shouldn't Chris at least be in the water by now? Local fastie age grouper Harvey Gayer (username: Phatnot here on BT) is also racing in Chris'  - He has been racing very well and ought to really tear it up. Local pro Haley Chura led the women out of the water of course in 24:12 (third overall) and Andy Potts is leading the men with a 22:08 swim. It is going to be 80 degrees in New Orleans and the humidity is currently 97%. Welcome to the deep south, Chris!

I saw those swim times - holy carp, those are fast times!  FWIW, if the start is like the wave start was at Timberman (my only WTC experience), it'll depend on how they order the waves (my AG - M45-49 - was the fourth or fifth wave there, but they weren't in any order and were different from other wave starts I've done).

What's Chris' #?

He is #1073.

He is in the 12th out of 15 waves, all time trial starts. Just seems like that they would do AG waves OR a time trial start. I would rather do one or the other myself (or mass start) but you race the race they offer, right?!

And Paris-Roubaix is shaping up to be a spectacular race as well - but I will keep that to myself as some of you may be planning on watching the rebroadcast tomorrow night on NBC sports. Right now they are showing soccer instead. I guess they know their audience....

Oh - time trial within the waves… missed that.  I'm with you on that one.  Fish OR fowl, but a race is a race I guess.

That is a great swim!

Geez, race stalking is almost as fun as actual racing!  (my HR bumped just trolling the results!)

TEAR IT UP CHRIS!

That showed as 4th in his AG, then switched to 6th - he must have started right up front - Time trial starts drive me bananas....

Through T1 in 3:35 - he is rolling!!!

yeah - tell me about it. Tracking via Ironman live already kinda reminds me of watching moon landings and reentries when I was a kid. And the IronTrac app doesn't seem to be working for me today either - they are returning network errors.

Warming up on the bike before I head out for a progression run (ugh!) hopefully Chris is well into the the second or third (or fourth or fifth!) mile of his run by the time I get back!

Have fun with that.  I have a progression run this afternoon too.  It's been quite a while since I did one - should be interesting.

Chris had a smoking fast bike split -- 2:30:25.  Looking like that sub-5 is within reach....hope there's lots of cold water and sponges on the course, as it looks a bit warm in NOLA right now.

Just got back from a 12 mile run myself.  Kept it really easy as I have a bit of a sore/tight adductor that I'm hoping to not aggravate.  It's humid here as well, but not quite as hot.  My shirt was completely soaked and heavy by the time I got back to the car.  Ick!  But I guess winter is coming back in the next two days....back down into the 30's -- wtf?

Nice run, Nicole - getting warmed up here today as well, my run was about 80 degrees, but we have this weird breeze out of the east and the humid is super low - only about 50%. I am covered in pollen though...

I am cheering Chris on to sneak in under 5 - that would be awesome!

Phatknot passed Chris out there somewhere with a 2:19:31 bike split and a blistering T2. Dude can usually run too.

good vibes to Chris, everyone - he is halfway through the run, averaging 10:14 pace. It must be getting just a little brutal out there. Remind me again why do we do this???? Hang in there Chris!

Nice running, both (and GL Arend).

I keep refreshing to see Chris' next split - hopefully it's not tooooo hot & humid!

No run for me, but did get a swim (with 700/3100 as kicksets - a lot for me) a longer aqua jog and another swim (just 1k steady) in this morning.  Might try another short bike this afternoon if the weather breaks.

Looking at the run splits of those that have finished it looks like the second timing mat isn't working well as there are tons of missing entries there.

Yep, seeing the same here. Phatknot just finished with a 1:39:46 run and  a 4:40:59 overall. Looks like good for 4th in 45-49, unless of course Chris really turns on the jets and creates a tear in the space-time continuum...

I believe he can do it.

Very nicely done.    Now, enjoy some of what NOLA has to offer (a very particular brand of recovery).

I didn't realize that you could change it - I am going to do the same.

Not that it changes much, but I like to think of my weeks in the same way whether I'm on Strava or BT!  Thanks!

The swim is ALWAYS a cause for concern when it comes to competing in a triathlon. This is the event for which you need to concentrate on RELAXING.
