So cool that you have such a great place for swimming.  Sounds like you and Austin are going to be a wonderful fit!  So sorry to hear that your sinuses are being obnoxious and glad that you got some meds.  Feel better soon.  And that car is keeeeeewwwlll!  Put a bike rack on that puppy and there'll be no stopping you!  have you named it yet?  When are you moving?

Lol - the bike rack was ordered yesterday morning and will be installed by next Monday for us to pick up the new beast!  Sadly, no name yet - I think I have to drive it for a bit first, but I'm open to suggestions!!

It's hard for me to believe, but we'll be driving to Austin starting July 4th which is coming up WAAAAAY too quickly!

You'll be driving right through East Texas where I live

Noice!  We're going to try and do the drive in one shot.  Starting at the butt crack o' stupid in the morning on the 4th and just trading drivers when we get tired.  It's going to be a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong day.

18 hours straight in the car?  Someone might die!

Is this trip to move you and your stuff down or also Tony and the fur creatures?

I believe I called the 7/4 th date a while ago. Do I win a prize of some kind?

I think I had Matt winning that race, so I am a little bummed on that.

I think we had a frosty drink resting on this one too

Nice try!

Well, if y'all (see how I'm adapting?) make it to Austin, cold ones are on me!  I truly hope that happens, all other bets aside.

Monica - good luck on the drive (that will be a loooooong day!).  We're targeting getting there the last week in July (we'll be in West Lake - so not too far from y'all…  WOW, that "y'all" thing is easy!).

Salty, thanks for the tips.  Mi couch es tu couch for ANY festival.

And what's with the Manatee madness these last couple days?  AG podiums, gore at races, people questioning whether they have enough bikes (NEVER!!), others getting into marathons in my soon-to-be-home state (awesome!) and such?  Almost too much to keep up with.

We got back at ~2am last night from house hunting.  Put one offer in on a house and looks like it might be a bidding war.  Fun (and I don't want to "play").  So, we have some alternatives, but it's always easier when it's easier (and having flights home from Newark canceled while in the air from Austin doesn't qualify as such - grabbed a puddle jumper to Providence, then a taxi to Boston and then grabbed our car and drove home to make the kids' end of year school "graduation" stuff - ugh!).

We'll see, but any place has room for a Manatee!!!

Matt

Ack!  Sorry for the bidding war.  That happened to my parents when we moved to NJ.  Well, worse than that.  They picked a house, put in an offer.  The offer was accepted and the seller backed out.  Decided that they didn't want to move to Manhattan after all and the commute wasn't that bad.  My mom had already returned to Iowa and my dad bought a house that she had never seen (except in pictures)!

At least you and Kim have some options lined up!

Yep!  It's a Mini Countryman - and the pic is of the car we bought, so it's white with the black roof.  I LOVE it... but now I need a name for the new beast!

Really?!?! The car is tiny and cute, right? I'm sorry to do it, but it is just too easy.

Name the car Tony. Well, maybe you ought to see how it handles first.

Too funny!  To avoid confusion, maybe call it Tony Jr., or Junior for short.

The deathiness is a distinct possibility...

This is going to be the first of 2 trips (UGH) so we're going to take as much as we can stuff into the car with this trip, and then when Tony knows what day he'll be starting with whatever new job he gets I'll be driving BACK to Chicago to get him, the cute little furry jerks, and whatever stuff is left to take with us.

So... yeah.  Seriously, someone might die!!!

Gosh, that sounds like fun.  The ride with the cute little furry jerks will be especially fun unless you drug them up so they're not squalling the whole way.

Noooo!  It's rugged!  And tough!  And... oh crap.  Fine, it's tiny and cute....  just like Tony!

I've already test driven it (as I did with Tony ) and it's really, really good.  (again... much like Tony

However, the car will NOT be named Tony.  I don't want there to be any confusion when I'm talking about one or the other...

Gah!  I'm at a complete loss for names, which NEVER happens to me!

Car 1 - Ruby (red Dodge SX 2.0... her full name was Ruby Sex Kitten)
Car 2 - Junior (Jeep Liberty)
Motorcycle 1 - Lola (1983 Suzuki GS 550 painted powder blue - she was a total show girl)
Motorcycle 2 - Zeus (2004 Honda VFR 800 painted silver - he was a big boy
Tri bike - George (cuz I saw him and said I was going to love him and squeeze him and...

How can I not have a name for the car yet???  Sigh.  It makes me sad.

Serious question:  Do the cats travel well?  I ask because one of Kevin's coworkers just transferred from CA.  He drove his cats across the country.  His car now smells like cat pee.

Lol!  I know... I've already got an appointment with the vet set up to talk with them about the best/safest way to travel with the cute little furry jerks.  One of my guys at work is also going to give me the big cage/crate that he used with his 40lb dog so we can put both of them in there with tons of room to stand up and move around a bit.  It's NOT going to be a fun ride.  UGH.

This interests me as I've never named a car (or bike) before.  I just generally refer to them as my car or the Edge (or my bike).

Weirdly (or at least I think it's weird), the name he was given from his Japanese mother and German father was Antone.  I just cannot bring myself to name my car Antone.  NO.

And that's exactly what I'm afraid of...  They're fine going back and forth to the vet - but that only takes about 15 minutes each way.  We're talking SEVENTEEN hours here, which is why I'm wondering if giving them a mild sedative would be something to think about.

Is Kirsten around?  Maybe in her taper madness she has some pointers or ideas that might help??

Serious question:  Do the cats travel well?  I ask because one of Kevin's coworkers just transferred from CA.  He drove his cats across the country.  His car now smells like cat pee.

In light of the furry critter issue, you should probably name your car Miss Kitty Litter.

The deathiness is a distinct possibility...

I think that there may be an issue with sedative + heat.  Your vet should have some ideas.  I was thinking more along the lines of a rental.

its a mini countryman right? I have been drooling over them for a couple of years, it's my dream car. Did you get white or a different colour - that is very important you know.

Hmmm... I'm going to have to ixnay it being called Junior.  That's the name of the car that I had with the ex-hubby, and since that ended so well...

Haha, that's great.

It's black and white, right?  Makes me think of old black and white movies and the 30s and 40s.  Frank Sinatra comes to mind.  Or how about James Stewart?  Call it James or Jimmy.

Monica, I have a friend who is pretty much a Crazy Cat Lady.  She used to breed and show cats.  She stopped that years ago but still has a cattery and all the retired ones.  And a golden retriever (who is allergic to cats).  Anyway, I figured that maybe she had some traveling with cats advice.  I'll let you know what she has to say.

I learned in this race that in order to finish the swim, you have to know where you are going. And in order to know where you are going, you have to learn to sight.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
