Champion 6107 Out running or enjoying a fine glass of red... | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Just catching up after a weekend of racing/in-laws in town...which was nice, so Hubby and I could do his first tri together. Congrats on the PR for the Half Mary! I so want to get back to the 2:00 range (and below) - way to work hard! Awesome working out with the family, Fred - I'm hoping after the wild rush of school comes to a close to figure out how to train with my girls a little more. (They're plenty fast on bikes to keep up with my running!) WTG with the new tri-bike - no advice since I'm getting used to mine too, but isn't it fun to have a new bike to get used to! |

CLOSED Tri2Smile - 2013-04-28 5:48 PM So took the new bike for a few straight loops near my neighborhood. I was a bit cautious early on with my darth vader like grip and unclipping early before stoplights but started relaxing more as I go into the ride since there was not too much traffic. I could def feel the difference on the flats now. I tried out a few diff positions as far as getting low and lower but will def be riding the tri bike exclusively before my next race. The tips recently shared on this thread were a big help. Over time, I'll have to get used to the braking and turning with the aero bars. My neck felt a bit strained and some pressure on my arms but I just attribute that to me being new to riding aero...but overall felt pretty good. Like the bike ! Thinking about a split saddle in the short term and an aero helmet long term..any suggestions ? Looking at either the ISM prologue or podium and the Giro attack or the Rudy project... Tune up TI swim session later today...been almost 2 months so hope I didn't pick up any bad habits...but def getting more comfortable with my swim base =) Have a great Sunday ! Have you tested any of the ISM saddles? I got the Road two years ago after having loads of problems finding a suitable saddle on my road bike to ride in the aero position. I still had pain after long rides, but it was a lot better than any of the alternatives I'd tried. When I tested my tri bike at the shop (before I bought it) they had the Road test saddle on it (which has green detail to show it's a test saddle, and matches my bike beautifully), and I specified that I wanted that saddle when I bought it. When I went to pick it up they said they'd sold the Road test saddle, so had put the Breakaway on instead. I was initially unimpressed that they'd put the "wrong" saddle on, so they agreed to order in the Road for me but suggested that I keep the Breakaway until it came in, so that I had something to use. And of course (to my embarrassment after making such a fuss) I've found that the Breakaway is MUCH more comfortable. When they called to say that the Road saddle was in the shop I asked if I could keep the one I had, and fortunately they agreed. Worked out pretty well actually, because not only is it more comfortable but having just looked at the website, the saddle I've got is also $40 more expensive! So the moral of my story is that it really is worth testing them. When I got the Road very few bike shops around here had the ISM saddles, and the only test saddles any of them had was the Road, so it never occurred to me that a slightly different build would make so much difference to comfort. On the other hand my husband hates the ISM saddles and loves his Selle Italia flow, which has a cutout, but joins at the front. Goes to show how personal saddles are. |

I have not tested any of the ISM saddles yet or any split saddles for that matter. My road bike came with the Selle Italia flow and has not given me any problems. I guess I'm looking into split saddles to help with comfort as I start riding in a more aero. My LBS does let me try out saddles so will def look into trying some out. Thanks again ! |

I ride sella Italia for both my road and tri bike. Love this saddle. I tried the Adamo saddles and truly hated them, but I do understand some people love them. You need to try more than one saddle IME to get an idea. My road bike has a Sella Italia. I like it when I'm outside but not so much if I am stuck on the trainer. I have an Adamo on the Blue that will be moved over to the new frame when I get it. Love that saddle. |

I still had a couple of times where I didn't work out for 3 or 4 days in a row. But it is still a major improvement from a couple of months ago. Thank you to all in this group! |

Funny though but I'll stick to pretzels, bananas or fig newtons for long rides. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED Bummed about the totals this month. The strange issues with my peroneal have had me super cautious on the run which is playing a mental game with me since I need to start the marathon build late June.

Extreme Veteran 692 England | Subject: RE: Fred D and Queen Zipp's SWIM, BIKE RUN consistency thread.... CLOSED April's totals:
I'm fairly happy with that. My bike miles are a little low because there have been a couple of long rides on the mountain bike, which are never as long, but it'll all be road and tri bike from here. I think this may be my biggest run month ever, which I'm really pleased about, as it's not felt like I was pushing it. Swim has been in maintenance mode, which I could do with changing, but not bad. And most importantly, all the indications are that my training is taking me in the right direction. The HM PB is the most obvious indication so far, but it looks like whatever it is I'm doing differently this year is working. I have two races in May, so that'll give an even better picture. |

April had several busy family weekends so unable to really have any long bike rides or runs....barely able to keep up with my oly training program. I had a 5 day stretch with no training due to a ski trip and recovery. Great family times though and will need to keep that in mind as I plan to train more in the future. May is busy too but summer should free up some training time. I have a fun local HM this weekend that I will be doing for distance and training...third race in the series so will qualify for a nifty challengers medal =) First oly tri in 2.5 weeks, bit concerned but should be a blast. Diet has improved the past few weeks and have dropped about 5 pounds this past month. |

Most of the biking was on a trainer and I since I broke my sensor, I only have times for the rides logged. When I start HIM training the end of June, these numbers will increase; but until then I'm taking things relatively easy.

Great to see you getting on the bike and enjoying your training again. I know the last 2 years or so have been rough for you training/racing wise, but we do this for fun, and I'm glad you've kept that perspective. |
