Artemis - 2013-01-16 11:32 AM Rain, rain go away!!

Did it?    Or do you need some help with the chant/song? Sometimes one person isn't enough.

Nope.  Still raining.  Basically since Saturday.  We had a little break on Sunday. Tonight it might turn to snow.  Did I mention I have a 15k on Sunday?  Of course, it's called the Frostbite 15k, so I guess snow would be appropriate.

Oh my goodness, last night's track workout: The good, the bad and the ugly. Mostly ugly haha!

Where to start ... well, first off I forgot socks so I was wearing argyle knee high dress socks (I told you, UGLY!) Also, my sister came and we had a late lunch. Ethiopian food. Probably not what most people consider ideal fuel for a hard workout.

So I have been in the in-between stage in terms of which group to run with, so I have been toying with that. The workout was 3 x 2000 (that's 1.25 miles or 5 laps on the track if you don't know.) My coach had me join the group that was supposed to be running a 6:38 pace. Key word, SUPPOSED to.

I knew by the second lap that we were going entirely too fast. I wasn't sure what I should do. We were almost halfway through so dropping off just didn't make a lot of sense so I finished it out. There is something about running with the little bit faster group. Or maybe it is these particular individuals. I don't know. But this one guy gets really threatened and does NOT follow the pace. We are supposed to be running in a group, alternating the lead and working together. Any time I got on his heels he sped up like we were racing! Finally I just dropped back.

We finished in 9:18, so a 6:12 pace!

Effff that. I jumped back to the slower group and did our last two around 9:50 (so, just under a 6:35 pace)

Sure enough, Mr. Racer only ended up doing 2 sets and bailed on the third!

JJ- - 2013-01-17 9:40 AM Well after a month I am still loving my new Tri Bike however I am just not pleased with the Adamo saddle they put on there. I have a Cobb on my road bike and love it. I should have gone Cobb on my Tri bike but didn't. Anyways Cobb Cycling is in my neighborhood so I went over there and talked a while. They suggested a Cobb Max. Really looking forward to trying it out on my next ride.

Which Adamo do you have? I was thinking about going that route last year, but I never pulled the trigger on it.

The great thing about Cobb is their awesome return policy. Very hard to find that with Adamo unless it's an individual vendor who's willing to do it.

I have an ISM (Adamo) on my roadie but it just kills me for the tri bike. I put a Koobie on that one (another long-nose but fairly narrow split saddle).

Huh ... I have never even though about my seat. I guess that means it's fine. I actually stopped wearing bike shorts on my commute.

Which, if that is true, is silly because I am definitely one of the slower people there.

I have an Adamo on my tri bike. I like it lots better than the others I've tried. I have one pair of tri shorts that I use on Tuesdays for my QC with a very thin pad and i have no issues.  Come to think of it, I should try those for my longer rides just to make sure I'm good with tri shorts on that saddle for 2.5-3 hours.

I was planning to run this afternoon - left early to beat people to the gym because it's already sleeting - but it is not happening. Just had the leather ottoman come down on my big toe and tear off some skin at the top of the nail (I picked it up to look for my phone underneath).  I assume it's going to be a nasty bruise, but I can't even tell right now because it hurts so much.  Icing and elevating to try to be in shape to run on Sunday.

If you have some hot coffee waiting, that's all I want.

I was feeling pretty ready.  I wasn't planning to race, just use it as a supported training run for my half marathon.  Until I hurt my toe.  Now I'm worried.

Would be nice if I could hand you a coffee, but will have to settle for blowing some steam/aroma across the country for you.

I'm going to combine a couple of threads/posts here. I have been doing the Sufferfest videos for a couple weeks now. (I see that our own AK Jonathon is doing the Tour de Sufferfest). They leave my legs exhausted and sore. Which, I know, is a good thing in the long run but day-um. So there are a couple threads in TT about foam rollers and rolling pins. I have a foam roller but it is not getting to the spots that Sufferland is hurting! I see that Salty commented on the rolling pin thread. I've been thinking about getting "The Stick".

I guess I'm just asking for thoughts here.

Sincerely,

mylegsarekillingme

Do you need something more pin-pointed to a spot? Like a ball maybe?

And "Sufferfest"? I thought it was a joke the few times I saw someone refer to their workout. hahaha! I'll have to look it up now.

By "not planning to race," I just mean pace-wise.  Unless I can't walk on Sunday, I'll still run.  It just won't be my fastest for the distance.

Wow, that's crazy! I like the mental picture of the argyle socks tho!

Dayum, way to hang on. I guess ego dude is threatened by little ol' you. Cool

Ugly, just wait until your coach refines his new training plans after his session with the big guns last week, then it could get really ugly!

I know this sounds really dumb but maybe the guy is scared that he is going to have a girl keep up with him. Dumb I know but there are still men around like that.

After a rough day at work I am tired and near exhausted. I had trouble falling asleep last night so getting my pre-work run in this morning did not happen, I was hoping for a snow day. I kind of felt it at work and had wished I had gotten my butt up to do it. I did actually come home, checked my snail mail and then hoped on the trainer.

I think I may set a goal of 30 in 30 with my shortest run being 2 miles on Sundays. I know it is going to jump my miles up by what is in my logs, but I do not always log my Army PT. I estimate my normal run being about 3.5 miles at an easy pace for this first month. After a week I might lengthen a midweek run to add some more mileage. My long run would be on Friday being around 6-7 miles. What thoughts do the Manatees have? I have learned by now to stop or slow down if the body screams or complains. I am still paying for stupidity in my youth from  running cross country.

I do not have a set training plan yet. I only have one known race but a couple I hope to do. My Masters Swim is back in session so I will be rejoining them 2-3 times a week (M, W, Sa). The other nights would be rides on the trainer until mid-March. My runs would be in the morning before work. Friday may be swapped around for a ride in the morning and run at night due to it being my "long" run day.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

I love it.  I think streaking is a great way to build consistency in running.  When I did my streak - there were days the streak got me out there, no matter what.  I am contemplating another streak myself...maybe we can go streaking together.  LOL

I am thinking of streaking from Feb 4 to Mar 6. You game?

I have a "class" I have to go to next week for 3 days (Army "Camping" in the cold) and then I am going to do the "Tour of Sufferlandria" until Feb 2. I plan to get some runs in during the tour but on my swim days I will do my bike instead of my run in the morning.

Ick! I know what that's like. Moved from Northern Cali to Southern AZ. Don't miss the rain most winter days

OOOOOh...a race? A freezing race? I'll cheer you on from behind my cup of hot coffee. Really. I promise.

Excited and ready for it?

If you have some hot coffee waiting, that's all I want.

I was feeling pretty ready.  I wasn't planning to race, just use it as a supported training run for my half marathon.  Until I hurt my toe.  Now I'm worried.

Eeeek! You JUST hurt it?!?!?! Thought I had missed something pages and pages ago.

Nope.  About 10 minutes before I posted.  It's still bleeding.  So not good.  At least I have a few days to let it heal.

That sucks - hope it's better by race day.

It's a little cold for streaking but oh well, I'm with you all!  Someone else has to bring the green hat though.

IN OTHER NEWS:

I swam 3100 yards tonight at the Master's Swim.  Furthest for me yet.  All the slackers with me in the slow lane kept asking me to lead.  It's like getting chased by a pack of dogs.  I guess that's one way to get motivation.  At times when I was struggling I would think, "If I was in the middle of 1500m, I really couldn't stop right now."  That helped.

BAHAHAHA! Oh that's gold, but oh so true. Good thinking there and congratulations on the training PR!

I meant to ask but maybe I didn't, or it was a bit you didn't read, but what parts of your diet still aren't vegan? Curious.

I'm pretty much vegan at home.  I do almond milk and all that.  Generally I'm not vegan when I eat out, or eating someone else's food.  I guess you could say I'm an exceptional vegan.  Vegan, except when I'm not.

Wow, that's crazy! I like the mental picture of the argyle socks tho!

Dayum, way to hang on. I guess ego dude is threatened by little ol' you. Cool

Haha no, no you've got this running group/coach backwards. For punishment he makes us run slower, not faster. Training with a bunch of Olympic hopefuls and nationally ranked athletes tends to have more of the overly competitive types lol

Seriously.  There is nothing like sharing a lane with the ladies to put pressure on to go faster.  Buuuuut that's kinda tough in the Master's Swim group where pretty much everyone is faster than me.
