Being able to give back was a really fun experience.  If you haven't volunteered before and you get the opportunity, I highly recommend it.

BTW, hubby landed 2nd on the podium in his AG :)  Very proud of him!

I volunteered for Hy-Vee 5150 pro race last year.  It was one of the coolest things ever.  I worked a corner of the run course and was within sweat-on distance from some pretty incredible athletes.  I'd like to do a more in the trenches expereince one of these days.  Good for you, Nicole:) Congrats to your man, too!

5:42 through 143 KMS.  He just got back to Pemberton from the out and back section through the Valley.  I think this last section is supposed to be a long uphill grind back to Whistler.

Dang, these IMs are so long;)  Seriously, kudos to all you IMers.  It really is an incredible accomplishment.

Thanks for the updates Arend :)

He's out on the run with a 4:31 T2.  That bike course looks a lot tougher than I thought based on the pro times.

I had a brutal long run today.  Probably a combination of biking a tad too hard yesterday, not hydrating enough afterwards, and just an off day.  Ironically I maintained the same pace the entire run...even though it was over 30 seconds per mile slower than normal.  Nothing was hurting or cramping...but just dead legs.  It was good mental training I suppose though.  Caps me off at my first 20 hour tri training week ever.  Time for a nap.

Given his swim time and bike time...it sounds like he's being a little on the conservative side...which is smart.

He's through the first 6.9 km at a 5:48 per km pace.  I'm not about to break out my metric conversion calculator...but ballpark that looks pretty solid.

GO CHRIS!!!!

I had a superb run today. The legs felt great, just cruising along, and I could have easily brought it up several notches. I looked at my watch for the first time at the 7 mile mark and it turns out I was running a pace that a few years ago would have been a dream. So now I'm starting to have other dreams... Sorry for the brag -- it just feels really good to be getting back to good shape.

Congratulations Michael.  I hope that everyone feels like they can celebrate their victories along this path and not worry about bragging :

It's really nice to get fitness back.  I'm still working to get to my pre-kid run fitness, and I celebrate each milestone.

What kind of dreams?  Do you "voice" goals or do you keep those private?  I'd be interested on hearing how you all approach this.  I haven't really voiced goals in the past, but I kinda laid out my goals for next year with my last RR, and I'm thinking it might help for a few reasons.

By all means...brag away.  I know to truely enjoy the good days, you have had to endure some of the not so good days as well.  I'm glad you had a great run considering all the non tri related stress you've been going through this year.

Chris's pace has dropped off a bit with the last couple of splits but he's still moving well.  I show him about 3K from the end of the first loop.  Go Chris!

I had a good tough 2+ hour ride today after my restart from the broken chain and then a nice and easy 30 min run about an hour later.  Legs didn't feel good at all for the run but the pace was there.

Originally posted by GoFaster Finally got the Hokas yesterday, and ran 8km in them today - pushing a little (well not so little) 4 year old in a jogger. I need more runs, and longer ones, but my initial impression was really positive. I don't know that my calves have felt that good during/after a run in a long time. I kept waiting for them to tighten up, but it didn't happen. Switch was right - they feel very cushioned, and that's clearly the point, but that "different" feel didn't bother me at all. I hadn't actually seen these in person, and ordered them strictly based on everything I had read. Even though I had seen pics online, these truly are the goofiest looking shoes I've seen. I'm waiting for the laughter next week at the LRS run. But as long as they do what I hope, I'm perfectly happy to wear some odd looking shoes.

Any update on Chris?  RUN!

wrt the above, I just did a 17 miler today in the Hokas.  My feet were still sore from the HIM in Newtons last Sunday, but my legs feel remarkably good after this run (and my feet are certainly no worse status post), especially as we did an 8 miler yesterday - so a fair bit of time on them this weekend.

The run was tough, so the shoes don't fix that!  I ran with Kim (yesterday, too - love it when our training synchs enough to do that) and along the coast then through some farmland/paddocks, so the miles just ticked by…  But my legs really do feel much better AFTER than previous "long" runs in the 12-14 range in other shoes.  Not as beat up.  Still probably race HM and down in Newtons, but I'm even wavering on the HM distance (have one in a couple weeks and am thinking of wearing the Hokas).

Goofy looking, yes.  But, I'm sitting here in neon green compression knee socks, so I'm clearly on board with goofy.

Matt

ETA - just saw the above post after hitting submit.  Go Chris!  (and nice workout Arend)

All kinds. Some are purely dreams (i.e., totally unrealistic) and others I simply don't know. The first time I went <1:30 in a HM I couldn't believe it. Other times I missed what seemed like a very sensible goal. So I've learned not to place too much stock in these goals, but it's fun to have them and I find it motivating while training.

Right now I seem to be fixated on the idea of going <1:20 in a half marathon. I have no idea whether that's feasible. I did 1:25 last year, but I'm getting no younger... I would also dearly like to go <4:30 in one of our local HIMs, but as that race is a long long ways off, that particular dream is purely theoretical. (Let's not mention that I haven't swum since I can't remember when and haven't biked since spring.)
