moabrunner - 2009-08-12 6:03 PM What is everyone's "long" taper workouts for this weekend looking like. My taper got moved from 2 weeks to 3 due to illness. If I feel good by this weekend I will probably do 3 hours on the bike with a 30 min run afterwards. Then an 1:30 run Sunday. I am flying by the seat of my pants because my plan changed. So what do you think of that plan and what are you guys doing?

Sat. - 3.5hr bike/1hr run.  Sun- 1hr OWS/2hr bike .  Similar next week, just a bit shorter.

Don't do any workouts that take a long time to recover from.  You're too close to race day.  Shorter workouts with a slight increase in intensity would be better.  Your bike/run workout looks good.  The 1.5 hour run is OK if you recover quickly...but that's your call since I don't know you.  Better to be conservative at this point and go into the race slightly undertrained.

Good point. I tend to want to do more to make sure I am ready. Which I know is the wrong way to look at it. I will see how I feel and go from there. I appreciate all the advice guys. Thanks.

Did my last long run yesterday- 18 miles. Now it's cruise control with a couple of 40-50 mile rides, some easy runs with longest being around 10 and no more than 2000 in the water. WooHoo!! I leave for L-ville two weeks from NOW!

A tale of two Saturdays ...

We must be getting close - I'm now watching the 10-day forecast.  This Saturday, the 15th, Louisville's projected high is 90.  The following Saturday, the 22nd, projected high is 76.  How sweet would that be?   Any meteorologists out there?  Is it time to start watching the west coast to see what's headed toward KY?

Long ride this weekend will be just 50.  Long run will be 13.  Swim will be 1:30.

Mentally, I'm fully into the taper.
Time to start packing yet?

The last several weeks I have been having more and more crazy nightmares.  Last night's takes the cake for sure... long story short, I got off course during the IM and ended up in the sewer systems (all the Ohio River discussion has finally made it's way into my sub-consious!).  I was being chased by a madman who finally caught me (spent all day yesterday thinking about how truly weak my marathon will be... this makes it even better).  As he is choking me to death he says, "How do you like them apples... Ironman?"

I woke up choking and sputtering like a fish out of water.  When I finally realized what the heck was going on I couldn't stop laughing... I can't believe we actually have signed up to do this to ourselves!

I've seen no posts lately of water temperatures.  Are we all assuming water too warm for suits?  Anyone know where we can get a reading?

Surfed the web including Army Corp, etc. and surprisingly couldn't find anything on water temp.  I sold my wetsuit but was thinking of renting one locally and traveling with it to Louisville if there was a possibility of using it.....

Just back from at 17ish mile ride. I'm feeling really fat, since i haven't done any 2+ hour workouts for several days. I need to go swim, but instead I sit here on BT...

Does anyone know if someone else other than the one racing can get our bikes out of T2 so we don't have to worry about it after the race? How far is the transition area from the finish line anyways/ Thanks

Others can get your bike out of transition as long as they have the ticket that you are given during check-in.

Did anyone ever figured out what this 'mandatory' age group meeting is at the group dinner?  I wasn't planning on going to the dinner.

Other forums saying High 70's so I wouldn't even worry about it with heat on the way.

If I remember its about 1/2 to 1 mile away, and you get a card that allows someone else to get your bike.  The problem is last year NO one was checking, my wife just walked in and grabbed my bike without a person even stopping her.

According to the athlete coordinator, it is not really mandatory.  She told me that if I couldn't go to ask someone who did to fill me in.  Her words were that it wasn't mandatory, but highly recommended.

My hubby & I went together to gather my bike and gear after the race.  He was holding my transition bags and I had my bike.  They made him show his ticket even though he was with me.   I thought the walk may have kept me from cramping.  Good cool down.  Althoug once I hit the shower and then sat down, I could not make it back to the finish line to watch others finish.  I was done!

I had the opposite experience. I was helping out a finisher last year. I walked her to the transition area, I was in my volunteer shirt with a volunteer wrist band, had a finisher with me- and the other volunteers would not let me into transition. I thought security was pretty tight.

Try the on line link again.  For someone reason it wasn't working but seems to be back up.  At least as of Tuesday.

Water temperature (posted before but here it is again):

There are temperature graphs posted here:

http://www.lrd-wc.usace.army.mil/navtemp.html

(Scroll down to 'Louisville Morning Navigation Temperatures|Ohio River ')

Cannelton and Markland are on either side of Lousiville. There's no temperature information at the moment for McAlpine, which is closest. Green line in the graphs (where present) is the water temperature.

I had the same problem and called to check on it.  They told me additional tickets would be available at athlete check-in.  I asked if there was a chance they would sell-out, and I was told that that was 'very unlikely'.

Looks like I've got my last long workouts this weekend.

Sat:
100mile bike
45 min run

Sun:
2.4 mile swim
1.5 hr bike

Doing a 10 day taper, so we will see how that goes.  Had a solid 13 mile tempo run yesterday so things seem to be falling into place.
