Master 1927 Guilford, CT | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Half fun training up in Placid everyone and remember to enjoy it and appreciate the fitness you've built the last few months. I love training this time of year in New England as the weather turns and the days get longer. Great time of year. |

Regular 124 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Totally agree with you re the bike course. I rode it last year a few times and when I rode it on Saturday I was "wow - I forgot it was this amazing". I got caught in a massive thunderstorm just before I turned left at Wilmington to head back into Placid, so I missed the fun of the Bears on the second loop. I was not that annoyed cause I did feel very good at that point. First loop was 3hrs and I was not ripping it at all. I would like to point out - everywhere I read people talk about the Bears. Yes, there is a 10 mile rolling climb from Wilmington to Placid and yes, it is towards the end, just before we are about to head out on a marathon BUT it is not that bad! I found the first 5 miles or so out of Placid before the 10mile decent to Keene just as challenging (ok - shorter in distance). Run course - first time I have ever run this. 1 Loop in 82oF+. I struggled on the hill!!!!!! Really struggled. I thought I was a (relatively) strong runner (maybe the few weeks off to rest the hamstring put me back more than I thought). Massive wake up call - no beer for the month of June. Defiantly worth a run if anyone is ever there….. And there is nothing enjoyable about starting a run with a massive downhill!!!!!! Point to self - do brick training with an immediate downhill run. Swim - is that Lake just the best Lake in the world. Temperature - dunno. It was pleasant. My fiancé and I are going to retire in LP. We are getting married there next year. Back there June 24-27th for more wedding planning (and training). Anyone doing REV 3 in CT, on Sunday? |

Regular 124 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Haha - good idea. Reach and block, reach and block - the IMLP swim stroke. I think the whole day will be a good pummling. Its going to be Hilly and Hot which is probably what we need (right?) Scary to think our minds see a HIM race as a training day!!! I think a one day (Sat) taper is allowed and one day recovery. See you there, i`ll be the one in a wet suit :-) |

Yeah, there was a house for sale on River Rd. Last year during my training runs I was like, "Man, if I had the extra dough I'd buy this house!" It was a really nice log cabin type house, right in the middle of the run course. " Maybe one day ... Edited by Dream Chaser 2011-05-31 1:25 PM |

Veteran 867 Vicksburg | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread I am doing Kansas next weekend and am not really planning on alot of taper for it either. My drive time up there with the family will be most of the taper I get and I will take it easy Friday afternoon and Sat. but I will still do something. I have found that traveling will put me in a slump there for I plan on doing a short (several mile run 30/40 min.) as soon as I get to Kansas. |

I am hoping (not sure how I am going to pull this off) to race then hit the road and come watch you all finish. I know of a few others who are racing as well. Master 2912 ...at home in The ATL | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Really Jealous of everyone getting time in on the LP course - afraid I won't get to experience it until July! Good luck to everyone racing this weekend - are you doing OLY or HIM? Pewee, I assume you are doing Kansas 70.3? I did a Half a week and a half ago and I was hammered for the rest of the week after - my first run 6 days later was "tough" to say the least. My quads were still smoked... Yesterday ran 14 and felt great though. Tomorrow is 4 hours in the North Georgia Mountains - should be about 8000' of climbing - can't wait! And thanks for the low-down on the run, blackchr05 - seems there is always a lot of chatter about the LP bike and swim, but it is the hills in and out of town that actually have me the most anxious... My weekly bricks have a good hill climb to finish on the bike and a good steep mile+ down to begin the run. Hopefully that will have me at least somewhat prepared. |

With everyone talking racing I'm excited to race my first tri of the season this coming weekend. I have a nice Olympic race on tap with a fantastic 500 something foot hill with 7 and 8 grades on the bike. I'm pumped. It's going to be a great Placid warm up to see where I'm at right now. |

Doing the Mooseman HIM in the Lakes Region of NH this weekend...tune up race!(sounds odd to say that) It's an IM run race, so it'll be a good opportunity to get a gauge on on nutrition for LP. Also, I'll be joining the good folks from Start-Tri.com from NJ for a LP Iron camp the weekend of June 10-12. Hopefully get rid of some of the heeby-jeebies, I have heading towards race day. TankBoy, I used to be stationed in Montgomery Alabama, proud member of the Montgomery Track and Running Club! Ever get down that way? rb Edited by RalBorseth 2011-05-31 8:50 PM |

Should be a little easier this year without having to dodge potholes on 54A. I'll be out there with my RATs (Rochester Area Triathletes) gear on, maybe we could meet up before the race? |

Regular 124 | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread Awesome - a mini IMLP possie will decend upon Middlebury CT.... wstchstrTriathletegood luck in your race, no need to get a ticket on the highway. I am pretty sure i`ll still be on the course when you get there... Tank Boy (Rusty): Regarding the run. The hills are not long. I ran the NY marathon last year (my first marathon) in 3.28.04. NY is suposedly a "hilly" marathon but I was so used to Central Park and the 59th street bridge that when they came, I felt good (and people round me looked in pain). But I think the "hill" in LP is steeper (but shorter) and I comes straight after a drop down, plus it was 82oF. To be honest, I have been resting my hamstring so had not run much over the past few weeks so that probably affected me too - maybe i just have to HTFU… But it did do 14miles last night at 8m/m pace. Do not know if that helps paint the picture - hopefully it does. OK - Dream Chaser, are we buying a 2BD or 4BD house with me up there? |

No, due to my knee issues I haven't been able to get in near as much run training as I planned and didn't want to risk doing anything stupid to it. |

Once again my running was limited by having to deal with my torn ACL. Overall the knee felt good most of the month just had a some days where I had to majorly cut runs short due to it starting to act up. Edited by drdking 2011-06-01 6:17 PM |

Member 41 Grant, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman USA Lake Placid : Official Thread As I really am a "beginner triathlete" I have a question that I hope doesn't sound too stupid. I am doing my first HIM this weekend and need to make a decision on what to wear. My concern is for comfort on the bike leg. I was planning on wearing my bike shorts (which I have used for my long rides and still experience discomfort by the end of the ride) and then switch to running shorts. But I have learned that there won't be anywhere to change between legs, so now am not sure. If I swim, bike, and run in thick padded bike shorts, will that be OK to ride with a thick wet pad and then also use it for the run, or am I better off wearing thinner padded tri shorts and just suffer on the bike? Also, in desperation I have ordered a DeSoto seat pad. If that arrives in time, is there any reason to not put it on for this weekend? Any advice will be appreciated. |
