Pro 4723 CyFair | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday yesterday. I got to play in the pool with my girls all day. I'll just say that the conversations I had with my girls were much more mature than those going on around me. Needless to say it kept me in the pool and engaged with my kids all day so I didn't have to have any "adult" interaction.
An hour in the pool and 90 minutes running today. Legs felt heavy. Probably the crap food I put in my system yesterday. |

Might as well have been raining. Looking like more rain this weekend, but I'd rather ride in the rain than on the trainer. |

Eh. I'd rather have so many other things that help performance. A coach, a new crank w/ Qrings, that almost gets you a set of Flos (could definitely nab you a deep front and a disc cover), a couple half ironman entries, a really good wetsuit, the new Rudy Project helmet, etc. If I had EVERYTHING I wanted sure $500-$600 on that would be nice. I don't though |

Member 216 Haymarket, VA | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed There are many other things that would benefit me more, but convincing her would be the issue. There's also the fact I'd prefer not to put more money in upgrades to my existing bike when I'm trying to change to a tri bike next season. Not sure what I'll be getting yet, so I don't want to pick up stuff that might not swap over. Truthfully the biggest benefit I could probably pick up at this point would be a coach, but I promised her I wouldn't even consider it until this season of racing is over. She wants to be sure I'm completely hooked, but not letting it take over my life so much that she becomes secondary. It's already rough enough on her between my work schedule for my full time job, and my work schedule for my racing job. Adding the training and tri races has taken a bit of a toll. |

Extreme Veteran 826 Bristow | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed So I went to the local Y again to swim this morning! Crowded! Each lane had 2-3 people in them! So packed it up and then took the kids to brother-in-laws pool to swim with the family. I thought what better time to work on flip turns so at least I only look like an idiot in front of my family So...I figured it out! Still not perfect but I was able to consistently flip and push off the wall. Sometimes I was deeper than other times or to close but it was cool to do! Cany wait to try at the pool now! |

It does look kind of cool, but I think it would send my ADD meds into overdrive. I have a have enough time focusing on breathing and peddling. |

Extreme Veteran 828 North Shore, MA. | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Sorry, I've been MIA. Work has been ridiculous and I have been out biking my butt off each day haha This weekend we were at the IL's Thurs - Sun so Sat I took a day trip to LP. I think my extra cycling is starting to help. I managed to complete 2 full loops of the course. I wasn't overly fast (read slow) but if I have an OK swim, I should make cut off. Right now my biggest issue is once again saddle sores. I all but bathed in B'tter but it doesn't seem to do the trick. |

Its about cumulative volume, not the volume of any one run. My longest run before IMFL in 2011 was 13.1 miles and I ran a 4 flat off the bike. You will be fine. |

Pro 4672 Nutmeg State | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Today while Shaun and I were biking we saw a biker completely blow a red light. The guy was in the right turn only lane, when the turn arrow turned green (the light to go straight was still red) he faked a right turn and then swung hard to the left and went straight through the red light illegally. His illegal maneuver caused an oncoming car that was turning left to slam on its breaks to avoid hitting him. Shaun and I chased him down and yelled at him for blowing the red light. Let's note when we yelled at him he also pulled out his cell phone and started dialing it while riding another big safety issue. I ride a lot and cars do lots of horrible things to me but I'm convinced that part of the reason cars treat bikers so badly is because of guys like the one we encountered this morning who blatantly disregard basic traffic law and put both themselves and cars in danger. I just want to remind everyone that when you are out biking, you are considered a vehicle under the law and MUST follow the same traffic rules as a motor vehicle. |

It's one thing to cross an intersection carefully when the light is red, and there is no traffic there that will trip the sensor for you. It's completely different when you do what this guy did. Good on you for lecturing him. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed So water temps Saturday may well rise above the 76.1. I am not at all in contention for age group stuff. Is it considered bad taste to wear the wetsuit? Time-wise it won't change my swim wave much as they will put all the wetsuits in the last wave. Some of you are regular age group contenders, but for those that are not, would you wear it? |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed Also, since I may get to a point of hating all things sugar by some point on the run. What items are safe on the stomach? Bananas? pretzels? How long should I wait to drink any cola on the run? Will there be any affects I should be aware of? Any last week thoughts that anyone can think of that has not already been mentioned? |

Carrie, the highest I've placed in my sprints so far has been 10th, so I'm by no means an age group contender. I'd say if it gives you the level of comfort you need for the swim, wear it regardless of the water temp, I would if I wasn't comfortable. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 and UHCoog's Mentor Group-Closed I am comfortable either way, just wondering if energy wise should I wear the wetsuit ... or is it like wearing the scarlet letter. Obviously I will be a bit slower without ... |

Some of you are regular age group contenders, but for those that are not, would you wear it? Unless you feel you need the wetsuit to complete the swim I owuld not wear it. It sucks to overheat in a wetsuit. If oyu're a heavy sweater to begin with, baking in a wetsuit for 30 - 40 minutes is going to start you off with a massive hydration deficit. Personally, I think its dangerous to wear a wetsuit when the water is that warm. |
