You probably weren't adequately trained for it. Don't blame it on nutrition either...you simply did not shop enough beforehand. Maybe next time you can use a 3/1 shop/rest method to pace yourself.
That is like a double Ironman. I hate shopping. I get "shoppers legs" where my legs get really heavy and I usually bonk after a couple hours. I can usually extend it with a trip to Cinnabon, Starbucks and Mrs Fields! I am go glad that I have boys who are only interested in going to the mall once per year for a very quick visit. My mom is coming in a few weeks and will want to go on a day long mall trip. I better start training now! Shopping in Payson is easy. 1 store. No, really, one store. Although they are opening Big 5, which is the talk of the town. I hate going shopping. I have to ship most my stuff back to Canada so I do the cop out thing and order online from Canadian stores. You guys are funny....I was definitely undertrained for the event. Are we able to download 910 data into BT for the swim? |

![]() GoFaster - 2012-11-08 2:44 PM You guys are funny....I was definitely undertrained for the event. Are we able to download 910 data into BT for the swim? You should be able to. I uploaded my first workout (while still on firmware 2.4) and simply clicked the "upload from garmin" button in the log page. It detected my 910, and all was good from there. But this past monday (after updating to 2.6), I tried to upload my swim and while it did detect my 910, it said I had no workouts to upload for that day. So I just put it in manually and didn't think much of it. We'll see what happens when I use the 910 again in the pool on Friday. ETA: the Monday workout went into garminconnect just fine (and I don't set to auto delete). Edited by tri808 2012-11-08 7:02 PM |

Use the upload link at the top of your training log page. If I use TrainerRoad BT nor GarminConnect can find my workouts done after that. I have to restart the agent. Every single time so far |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I need some collective wisdom. I've had a crazy past 10 days or so with work, which might be relevant. On Tuesday, I tweaked my calf on the track by going too hard on one rep. (It's amazing how much difference 5 seconds can make over 600m.) Confirmed today (by my massage therapist, whom I trust -- he has put his hands on hundreds of similar cases) to be a strain, not a tear. I didn't run yesterday out of caution. Today I did (a bit less than) 4 easy, and felt the calf around mile 3 (before then I felt totally normal). Not real pain, and nothing that affected my stride, but unmistakably a 'twinge' in the calf, bordering on pain but nothing that would make me change by stride or level of effort (which was easy anyway). I was supposed to do a 5 mile tuneup race this weekend. This was an important part of the plan, to assess current fitness and therefore expectations for my race in Dec., but also as part of 'racing myself into shape'. I'm now thinking that I won't do the race. Am I being overly cautious? It's clear that the injury (if we can even call it that) is very minor. But it is unmistakably there. Maybe I just answered my own question? Thoughts? Edited by Experior 2012-11-08 10:01 PM |

![]() | ![]() axteraa - 2012-11-09 12:39 AM An injury now puts a December race in serious jeopardy. I agree. You would be doing the 5 miler hard clearly if you are using it to assess yourself. I think you'd be risking the Dec race. That being said, if it is as minor as you say it is, can you make a race day decision? Minor strains heal up pretty quickly on me. You'd have to be pretty darn sure though |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() You have a nice base going. I don't think taking it a little easier to let it heal up is going to ruin your December race, although trying to push through might. Is it worth the risk to you? If I said you could perform at 97% in December vs a chance of 100% or not at all but it's a toss up, which would you take? |

![]() | ![]() Fred D - 2012-11-09 4:10 AM Weather is going to be nice this weekend with temps into the 60s, so will be back on my bike finally. Then it gets cold again, so I will give serious consideration to moving the bikes to the basement and hooking up my trainer. In the last 2 weeks I have only been running and it does make life easier as there is less time commitment, but I really want to get bak t things. Really hoping I can get the swimming going soon.... They are predicting snow here. I'll be on the trainer. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the feedback. I've decided not to race this weekend. I'll just keep running easy and see how that goes. I read the interview with Kienle on ST. Good interview but I was struck by this exchange (paraphrased): ST: What was your Wattage at Kona? Kienle: I don't know. I don't ride with a PM. ST: No really, what was your Wattage? Kienle: No really, I don't know. I found it pretty hilarious. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm hoping to ride both days as well. Have to get in what we can before it gets crazy cold. So, I downloaded Sufferfest: Angels. Looks really cool. Question though. I have Golden Cheetah but the latest version on the website when I download says 2.1. I think it was mentioned that version 3 is required. Where can I get that for a mac? I didn't try the video yet. I ended up running 10 miles with the group this AM. I'm glad I did. Ended up being a good group. |

While I realize we are not all computer geeks, I do not understand the fascination with trainerRoad and the lack of excitement about GC. It's an amazing tool for training. The ability to drop in Erg files and it will direct your power levels is the same as trainerroad. The ability to take Jorge's plan and make erg files is trivial. Erg files for all the Sufferfest videos are on the web GC even has a tool to download workouts. It uploads to Strava, to training Peaks, it does ride analysis, it has a performance manager, it even does friggin aero analysis. It's crazy people don't use this thing. Granted the early releases of 3.0 were rough but they are getting pretty smooth.

As an IT geek, I agree with what you are saying but I also work in support with people who are flat out petrified of new software. Trainerroad is pretty and easy for someone to use. GC is less pretty and intimidating to a first timer. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've had the older version of GC on my mac for awhile. I'm really a novice with it though I have to admit. There's a lot of info there and capability I haven't taken the time to get into. I don't get too crazy with the nuances of it but would like to get a little more sophisticated. At first I was looking for a solution to do this setup on my iPad but that doesn't seem possible. I was going to search around for a blog post somewhere that hopefully describes the setup step by step. I see where I can get V3 for a MAC now. (http://goldencheetah.stand2surf.net/) Thanks for the ideas. I see some other forum discussions to read thru to give myself a crash course. |

You can also program your Garmin zones to cue you on your sufferfest levels. There's another 2% Full GC is another 2% A CT is that additional 1% Do not hesitate to ask any questions, trivial or not. On a separate note, I did a proper ride with the PT this morning. Results tell me what I hoped - my power is really no different between this new PT and the old one. I rode at about 215 watts NP this morning for three intervals, which would have been about 85%, but right now is probably higher since losing some fitness. So, I'm happy to see that my watts are where they seemed to be before, but that really tells me I'm leaving some free speed out there in regards to my position. At my weight, I should be faster than I am. Definitely something I need to work on. |

I was swimming quicker yesterday than I expected (and checked my pace against the wall clock for accuracy). Then again, I did lift weights once earlier in the week, so that could account for the extra speed. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This. Thread. Moves. Fast. Missed a few days and a whole lot of pages. Question for the group (and I apologize if it has been addressed already): For those training with virtual power like TrainerRoad, how do you incorporate that into racing without a powermeter? How do you pace without power if you have been training with virtual power? Or, are you simply using virtual power as a training tool to become a better/stronger biker, but then pacing your race effort via another metric (RPE/speed/cadence/heart rate)? I think for me using TR for virtual power is all about a consistent repeatable effort based training while on the trainer. I wear my HR monitor and I know my effort level so I think I can then turn around and transfer that to racing. I just know how hard it is to use HR for short intervals on the trainer so I just wanted to try a different way to measure it and never have a plan to get on the trainer and just spin |
