Looking back at this year I think we've been really lucky!!!  I think this weekend was only the second time all season the weather was bad enough that I couldn't train outside!  It's been a good year!!

Yes, your weather yesterday was not pleasant!  Especially for someone trying to fly through O'Hare!  Yell

Nice!  The weather channel voted Anchorage the worst summer city this year because of all our crappy cold rainy weather - maybe I need to visit you!

So, I got in on the tail end of a Gran Fondo "race" yesterday, by accident.  Towards the end of my ride yesterday I crept up on on two riders with bib numbers and followed along for a bit and at the next intersection, there was traffic control waiving me on through.  Turns out there was an organized 70 miler that started and ended right in my small town and I had no idea!  I guess there is one more event for me to do next year.

Today's funny triathlon related scene was at the pool gym.  The pool at my gym (not the school I swim with the Masters in) is 15 yards long, has no lane lines to suppress waves, and has high walls.  It's really just a big bath tub.  The guy next to me was cruising along quickly, probably the fastest swimmer I've seen at the gym.  Then he started to do the butterfly in this tiny pool and all hell broke loose.  Felt like a rough ocean swim.  After a bit, I just stopped to wait and realized that everyone but this guy had stopped swimming.  There are no rules against doing the IM, it just seemed like a strange place to do it...

Happy training folks!

My RR is up from Saturday's HM http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=464722

Still very, very sore - Saturday and yesterday were probably the sorest I have ever been after a race with my quads killing me.  Swim today will hopefully help!

That's too funny - did he ever notice that everyone was staring at him?

I wish we had more bike races/tours here. We really only have 1 and it is a 2 hour drive to it (but beautiful!). Hubby is talking about flying down and doing one of the Grand Fondo's next year I think it is called the Diabolical Double and has like 16,000 feet (maybe more?) of elevation gain.

That's funny about the guy in the pool!

I think it was in 2011 I did the Gran Fondo in San Diego.  Great ride, lots of climbing and a perfect day.  I would do one again in a minute!

There are several of them around the country and there are different groups running them.  There is another one in NYC Bill I think in May or early June.

Robin, I had a friend that did the one you are talking about, he had a great time but it was a lot of climbing.

I love the organized rides for IM and HIM training, beats riding alone and carrying all the nutrition with you.  I just have to remember to train and not sight see!

good morning!   I think I hit a wall on waking up at 2:30am for a 3am workout sessions.  I knew it would be a slippery slope.  Been busy at work, and mentally drained.  I don't even remember shutting my alarm off Tuesday morning, but I did and went back to sleep.  So I had to make up the morning session at night.  That wore me out and I did the same again this morning.  Now I have to make up another workout by the time I go to bed.  I was mainly doing these to spend more time with my wife.  It's not working, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Yep - winter is here! no more outside rides. We just need a few good snows to build a big enough base to ski!

I have always been in awe of your ability to get up (and function) that early!  Don't have any suggestions for you as getting up that early is completely foreign to me! Just remember your body needs sleep for speedy recovery!

In Anchorage, every Tuesday night in the fall the parks and rec. hold a run race series. They have 3 leagues - munchkin, farm, and lightning and distances range up to 10k depending on group but vary every week along with the location.  I took the kids to run the munchkin league last night and it was a blast!  Very well organized (they had a dj and hot chocolate and traffic control) with a ton of people there.  Everyone was happy and all the kids were running around.  Very cool to see such a great running community so close to home.  Kids are already begging me to go again next Tuesday -maybe next time I will run with the "grown ups".

When I put my HM RR up on the site I realized I never finalized my Yukon bike tour 'cause I was going to upload some pics.  Anyways, I finalized it yesterday and you can finally read up if you want. It was an interesting experience and a race I plan on doing again next summer! http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=464723

Personally Brian, if I miss a workout in October (assuming it isn't an upcoming running race) I wouldn't worry about making it up.  It is the time of year that burnout can be an issue if you aren't careful.  Talk to your coach, I am sure he would agree to skipping it rather than forcing it.

I enjoyed the race report Robin.  I believe it is probably the first race report on BT that mentions hookers, but I could be wrong! Embarassed

I am getting tired and nervous    This is my last big week of training before the taper.  I just realized the other day that I need to get my gear packed so that it can go with my bike next Wednesday. It has really snuck up on me (or I have been in denial).

Who watched the IM World Championship last weekend?  Carla and I sat on my couch for hours watching while streaming it onto the TV. A good day.  Take a look at this video. Final finisher. It is great.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UVxhiZorh-E&feature=g-all-u

I hope everyone is having a good week.

I'll be in Florida in less than 2 weeks.  Starting to get nervous and excited.  I've trained the whole year for this, so now to just enjoy the day.  Anything under 17 hours is a success.  I'm not going to go after any time goal except to finish.  After I get my first IM out of the way, I'll look at some time goals for IMTX.

Watching IM's on line is both inspiring and addictive!! I registered for IMLP when I had only done 1 pool sprint after watching the feed on the internet all night!  It all worked out and I had a great experience, but it was anything but the traditional route to a first IM!

I am looking forward to tracking you and Wesley online the first Saturday in November Kathleen!
