Good news in I actually feel better today than yesterday. My knee is swollen to the point of limited ROM but that's pretty temporary.Asalzwed - 2012-12-07 11:51 AM Welp, I think I was in shock yesterday and didn't my damages correctly. My bike is unfortunately not as resilient as my body and is pretty effed. Ouch. How bad is it? Bad news about the bike; good news about the body. |

My bike is unfortunately not as resilient as my body and is pretty effed. Ouch. How bad is it? The good news is the best news possible in this type of thing. Bikes can be replaced. You know how I feel about people Funny thing is when we were younger my DH use to say he'd rather hurt the bod than the bike (motorcycle) because it's cheaper to heal than to replace parts. Now that he's fifty-ish and the bod is hurting he regrets that attitude. Glad you're feeling better Salty! Sorry 'bout the bike. Edited by rrrunner 2012-12-07 11:22 AM |

You've done that once, no need to repeat; try for a different experience this time Salty. That's badazz. Glad your bike is okay. I'd take it to the bike docs just to make sure the frame is still solid and really only the handlebars need to be replaced. GO JO BAXAS! GO CHILLY ME! Demoralizing day ... but then counted my blessings and checked this thread. Thanks for such inspiration, faith and funny tales The practice swim got canceled halfway through this morning and athletes were being herded or as necessary fished out of the water. Strong wind and 2m swells with whitecaps and chop. AWESOME! I'm totally fine with that except if they cancel the swim ... I shall be pizzed ... and the wind is cold, cold, cold. Even the locals are bundled up. I went cycling and running in the "heat" of the day in bright sunlight. I was wearing a tri top, a long-sleeve over that, a cycling jersey over that, and a shell OVER THAT and I still froze even while running. (The pic is of my nicely blue-mottled blue-veined hand). In a fair bit of pain from the arthritis and muscle tightness from cold and shivers So here's the good news. I'm not going to die. I'm going to be prepared. Any day upright and breathing, especially with limbs intact and having the resources to do a financially and physically high-end activity is awesome. I'd much rather do 17 hours of fun in the cold than spend 17 hours having some of the illnesses I've had in the last years. Also, a small group of triathletes who rented a duplex and brought an extra athlete as house-batch to cook and sherpa adopted me, so I'm being extremely well-fed and spoiled. PIGLETS. THANK YOU ALL again for your incredible support. Means the world to me. I second that emotion!!!!!!!! We'll be warming you with Manatee huddles, cuddles and {{hugs}} |

Turns out I am indeed iron deficient. I was deficient once before, but I was a vegetarian--will wait to discuss with my doc and see what is up. Sure will appreciate some extra energy that a higher level will provide!! I've been borderline anemic for years, okay decades. When we lived in Omaha I use to give blood on a regular basis, so I just took iron for the few days before I would give. Now I'm better about it. I take iron supplements 3 times a week. |

I'm doing a 5K on Sunday but my goals might be a little altered. I did get some reindeer antlers for it. I am sure those will make up for any speed limitations my knee gives me. There is a sprint triathlon this Sunday, aptly named the Nutcracker. I was waiting for an accurate forcast before I decided to sign up. I'm glad I did. We might actually get SNOW on sunday! No thanks. I'll just cheer on her Yanti-ness and the other racing Manatees. There is a Farolito 5k next weekend that runs in the evening and the path is lit by farolitos, another name for a luminaria. It finishes with hot cocoa and posole (a New Mexican soup) I want to sign myself and DH and DS1 up for it but they are less than excited. I think i'm going to do it and just go at whatever pace they want to do. I think they'll like it. DH wants to get active again and DS1 is on-again off-again with running and has never done an official race. |

I have a Quarter Marathon trail run on Saturday. With my sister. I have a time goal in mind, but it is tempered with the knowledge that I have never run out there and the terrain is a complete unknown to me. So, my goal is to do as well as I can . My other goals for the weekend are to get my bike from the LBS, make Mac and Beer Cheese soup with Bacon for a friend's party on Saturday night and to pray for our Yanti during her race. I may not sleep very well on Saturday night as I will be deep in thought. |

My doc figures I will be taking them for 6 months before I get to the level she wants me at (100). My level right now--10. Sigh. At least it explains some things that I have been noticing lately... I'm glad that you saw your doctor and that you are addressing this. You'll be all set by the heart of tri season and, more importantly, to help support your champion agility dog next summer! :-) Take care! |

Yesterday I had a swim in the morning and indoor cycling at night. It looks like we'll have good weather this weekend (high of about 70, it should be mid/high 50s when I leave on my ride). I'm looking forward to getting my shiny new bike outside tomorrow! Woo hoo! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty Beyond Ridiculous Manatees PART 6--CLOSED I really think I lost my mind yesterday. I don't think it was a concussion since I only sort of hit my head but I think it was the shock. I did all of this crazy absent minded stuff. I apparently dropped my wallet and my neighbor found it. Of course I randomly had a ton of cash in it and gift cards for 100+ dollars. Bless his heart. I have got to do something nice for him. I wonder what else I did yesterday. I can't even recall most of the day. |

My form was breaking down, and there is not point in practicing cr@p. Started on iron supplements last night. So glad that you found out and can take action!! How is the Achilles btw? Improving, thanks. I saw PT yesterday. More advanced exercises to do; once I can do 3 sets of 10 without discomfort I can start a run 1 min, walk 4 min trial and see how it goes. I did 2 sets yesterday (one am, one pm) without issue. I will try for 2 sets together today. I also went for a 30min power walk last night with no stiffness or soreness this am, so that is good. Glad to hear you weren't hurt any worse, although it sounds as though you had a rough day yesterday! Sorry about the bike though!! |
