GulfCoastSwimmer - 2009-10-31 8:36 AM Aaack! I'm freaking out! I found out this week that 2 people I've talked to during the week now have the flu. One of the guys had given me a hug on Thursday, right before telling me he treated a patient with H1N1, unmasked! (I don't know why we fit test people if they're not going to wear their N-95s.) Now he's home with the flu and I know I've been exposed, and the race is only a week away! I made sure to stay a good 3-5 feet away when I was talking to him, though, so I really hope I avoided his germy respiratory droplets. I think if I can make it to Monday with no symptoms, I'm in the clear. Anybody have any tips for me on how to keep my immune system at peak performace until next Saturday?[/QUOTE]

A big plastic bubble? I know the feeling.  I have had to haul 2 H1N1 patients in my ambulance in the past week and a half.  I'm just hoping the N-95 mask and decon did its job.  I also put a non-rebreather on the patient to keep the droplets down.  Good Luck.

WE have this to be thankful for. At least the weather can't be worse next week. Swam with CF in four foot swells. I loved them but I knoiw a lot of people want a calm swim. Went out on a ride and it stormed and and temp dropped 15 degrees with 20 knot headwinds. Decided not to be a hero and risk getting sick and came home. Hopefuly we will have better weather next week.

Hmmm... I'm undecided on what to wear.  I was planning on wearing my one piece tri suit the whole race but now I'm not sure.  It would be nice to change into my cycling shorts for the extra padding but that also means an apparel change for the run.  I guess I'll bring it all and make a race day decision.  As long as I get over this cold and be healthy by next Saturday I'll be happy.

Yes, I've been wondering about the running in the dark too....what do people usually do about that? I think it's going to be a full moon this week, so hopefully that will help, but otherwise...?

Mimir98 - 2009-10-30 1:57 PM just chiming in on race attire...I have a one piece tri suit with a think chamois padding...and that's all I will wear.  Once you get on the bike, if you are like me, you won't stay dry for long.  I like to keep it simple and have less to worry about.  But, do what works for you

Brittany.  Bless you.  You are an inspiration on how to live.

AFter considering my options, I decided I would go with this for the run.    Happy Halloween y'all!

So we got an update via e-mail today, and now it's saying we DO have access to the race bags (run and bike) on race morning.....

"You will have access to your bicycle beginning at 5 a.m. on race morning, but you will not be allowed to remove your bike from the transition area until the start of the bike portion of the race. You will have access to your bike and run gear bags on race morning."

It's always said that...which is a good thing

I have a clip light to the brim of my hat.  got the idea from as athlete last year.  So far, I have 1025 miles on the van for this adventure. In Athens, AL for the night.  Not to bad a ride from Indiana. As I wrote before, I had everything but the kitchen sink in the van before I left Central PA. Now, with my parents stuff in the van. I have the kitchen sink.   Ready to arrive at the Summit tomorrow. At this time next week, I should be getting close to being an Ironman!.....come on finish line.

Got my bike back from the shop today after it's pre race checkup and tune up.  New rubber on the back, lubed chained, adjusted brakes and dérailleur all systems go.  Easy 30 mile ride and 20 min run tommorow and then bike goes back to the shop on Monday AM for TriBike transport to pick up.  Tomorrow is packing day and then Wednesday is travel day!

Hopefully by this time next week we all will have heard or are close to hearing those words that I have heard in my head many times when the training got tough "............ YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!"

I'm really sleepy all of the time. Once my training slowed down my body decided to stop. I feel great during my workouts. The rest of the day I feel like a slug.

Packing for the IM is a workout by itself. My goal is to have everything packed and ready to go tomorrow. We're leaving on Tuesday.

I've been playing that in my head for weeks on end while running.  The crowd that is lining the chute as I head into the finish line, bright lights, etc... trying to take advantage of the time zone change and roll the clock back...picked up an extra 2 hours... safe travels today. Arriving PCB today. FINALLY!

so for people who have done this before, what's the deal with Finisher Gear Tent the day after the race? Will it be a madhouse? Do people line up to get in? Do they have all the same stuff before the race but without the "finisher" on it?
