IT IS TIME FOR A JOGO MANATEE CHALLENGE!!!!

**This is completely voluntary.  Some of us like the accountability but we totally understand that it is not for everyone.

For those of you new to our pod, every so often we have gotten our "jogo" on and challenged ourselves.  It is a way of staying accountable to the group.  I have needed the support every so often and now it seems to be a "thaaaang" that some of us look forward to.  It is a 30 day challenge.

If you are interested in participating, please post up what your challenge will be.  You will need to post here or in your log daily how you did.  I will post a list of pod members participating and what their challenges are so that we can stalk each other.  There is no prize except pride (and maybe pop tarts) at the end of 30 days.

Do you all want to wait till June 1 or do you want to start sooner?   I will go with the majority.

1. Jogo-Whole 30

Thanks Jo, your timing is impeccable. I bailed on my run this morning. So, it seems that my challenge to myself will be either running OR if Judi posts something swim related, I may take her up on that. I need as much swim motivation as possible. I'll have to give it a little thought.

I like June 1st so I can finish vaca and give my goal some thought

My US geography is dumb basic - like hopeless. BUT fellow Manatees I hope you are all safe - that tornado was some powerful force. My heart goes out to people lost and left homeless, just devastating.

In brighter news, I was walking at the beach on Sunday and saw a pod of dolphins along with a flock (right word?) of pelicans. Beautiful..

Moore, OK is about four hours (220 miles) south of here. We had 6th grade promotion tonight at our grade school, and our district superintendent could barely get through the introduction because of the tragedy at the grade schools down there. We have a new grade school now, but in the old grade school, the basement routinely flooded. I thought of that when I heard that some of those kids drowned in the basement of their school. Just unthinkable. Where we are, we seem to be right on the line, and have been for the past couple days. When I picked the kids up from school, we had clear blue skies to the west, and immediately to the east, black and dark. We need to hold our babies tight. So heartbroken.

Crying here. GomesBolt (Matt Gomes) on BT is nearby as well and had posted the info on FB.

Also thinking of your kids and their grandmother and her family.

It's the thought that your kid is in trouble, in danger and you can't be with them.  That's what you want.  The teachers are heroes from what I'm reading.  Thankful for those saved, heartbroken for those lost.

Again, as usual.

My wife and I were all but crying watching this on the news last evening.  Terrible, terrible tragedy.  Extra hugs for the kids tonight and lots of prayers for those suffering in OK.

My ex-mother-in-law passed away last Tuesday morning after an extremely short (five weeks) "fight" with ovarian cancer. The funeral was this past Friday, so while my oldest son wasn't able to see her one more time before she died (he flew out last Thursday), he was able to be there for the funeral, so there is something comforting about that. Thank you all for praying for her and thinking about her and her family.

{{hugs}}  Please accept our condolences.  I'm sorry that your eldest wasn't able to see her again but glad that he was at least able to see that side of his family at the funeral.

I see no reason to wait until June 1.

REVISED JOGO MANATEE CHALLENGE!!!!  PLEASE READ!!

I am so sorry.  It has been so long that I forgot that part of the challenge.  So forget what I posted as picking a "thing" to be challenged.   It doesn't matter if you swim, bike, run, walk, yoga, zumba, whatever...the challenge is 30 days of 30+ minutes of anything that is mindfully active.  What do I mean by that?  It means that walking to the mailbox, like you do every day, does not count.  It has to be something that is off the couch (you can do something like yoga or walking even on a rest day) EVERY DAY!!!

Who is in for the 30 days of 30+ minutes?   Come one, come all!!   There is no thought process.  We will start as soon as I get a list together of who is in.   You can do this on vacation, over holidays.  Let's do this!  It is only 30 minutes per day!!

Who is in this with me and Jayne?

Well that makes it easy. It's not like I'm sitting on a beach drinking mimosas! Yesterday two hours of mtb, today two hours of hiking/zip lining, oh yeah, and three (and a half-ish) hours of racing Sunday. ;-)

Maybe I'll hit the next one. I am flying to France on 6/13 and returning 10-11 days later. I don't think those pretty much flight days will allow me to play.

I had a hard time watching the coverage last night Cry, but I'm listening to reports this morning. They're talking to more teachers and students. Seeing the destruction, I don't know how the casualties aren't higher so far. Good job schools!

I definitely like being in a couple on a MTB, adds to the adventure. Oh, PEDALS?!

I've always ridden MTB pedals and shoes on road bikes, so that may have something to do with it--actually I prefer clipless on MTB (more than I'd prefer clipless on a road bike, even!) because I feel like I have much better control with them. Way too easy to slip off platforms on uneven terrain.

Seat's lower so unclipping/stopping isn't an issue.

Ha! I have cuts and bruises that state otherwise ;-)

I MUCH prefer clipless for the MTB as well because of the bounce off potential. Amazing how freaky it is going back after clipping in so much. Be sure to set the tension to where you're comfortable getting out.

No idea on the lower seat and stopping?

Cuts, bruises, stitches, they all seem to be part of mountain biking.  I've only recently graduated to 'big girl' pedals on my MTB, used to use platforms with cages until I caved into peer pressure and the realization that it is a little silly to be afraid of clipless when I only use them on my other bikes.  I set them much looser than my road and tri bike, of course and am still getting used to using them (read: gaining more confidence in) on the more gnarly stuff.  Still a little chicken on the really rocky, rooty stuff but I really shouldn't be.  It might be my lingering lack of courage due to the stitches I received a few years ago, but man was I fearless on the thing before that!  Sorry, maybe I'm not really helping.Embarassed  Go ride, go have fun!!

Well, indeed. Platforms or clipless, you're gonna get banged up a little on the MTB I shoulda said, seat's lower so unclipping/stopping (base level) is actually easier than on a roadie/TT, and is no more of an issue than when on platforms

This'd be true whether you were in the #1 or #10,000 spot.

Also, as you know, marathon times aren't particularly comparable across courses or even the same course on different days (they're just somewhat more comparable in that case).

Ok, a little blatant brag, I'm sorry!

This will more than likely be temporary, but I am still pretty excited. 5th fasted 25-29F marathon in the state:

Holy Salznitz. And it's not like you're in Rhode Island.

Yeah, to make myself feel a little better KC is a pro and pretty much all of them are post-collegiate runners in my running group.

But I've got some work to do

Fo sho, Eugene is a super PR course and it's also the reason they all selected it. And that's also the reason I don't think my name will last long on the list as Boston isn't even close to a fast course. I think once CIM, Chicago and Twin Cities  hit, I will be long gone Smile That's why I am enjoying it for 5 minutes.

hey, is the site still moving slowly for most? like, longer to post, bring up pages, etc.

it's interminably slow over here

Slowest issue for me is initial site load, then things move OK, but not quite as fast as before.
