Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Lots changed this weekend. I did NOT get to race. My friend who was going to take care of the puppy while I was racing called 5 MINUTES before I had to leave, to tell me she couldn't do it because she decided to get a pedicure!!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't leave the doggie crated for the 5 or so hours I would be gone. Especially as she had been by herself a lot the last day or so! Yes I was pissed. I was doing this race with a woman I "met" on a national challenge site. It was at the New Belgium brewery and had music and beer at the end. It is a 4 race series and this is the only one I could do. Then, my husbands shoulder surgery he had in November is not healing properly. They finally did a MRI and there is fluid in the joint meaning an infection, so the poor guy is having to have surgery June 6. That alters tons of plans. Worst is his plans to get back to Cyclocross and running the Bear race. I am changing my HIM to an Oly and we may have to bail on the NYC triathlon since traveling will be a byach. I get to be the primary person who deals with the business this summer (we rent cabins) and mowing and weedeating. I'll be getting excercize vs. training. |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Originally posted by melbo55 Originally posted by jmkizer Stupid question time Is there a way to turn off elevation when you are on the trainer? One would think that turning off GPS would be enough for the software to know that there is no need to record elevation but, sadly, that is not the case.
What device are you using? My Garmin 920XT has a bike indoor mode which seems to pick up the current elevation but doesn't show any gains, at least on the last few indoor bike sessions I did and looked at. 520 Edge. It's just annoying. ETA: I'll email Garmin and see what they have to say. I suspect that the answer is "too bad." Edited by jmkizer 2017-05-03 7:41 AM |

Master 9705 Raleigh, NC area | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Originally posted by Hot Runner My 520 data, when I download it, also shows elevation when I ride indoors in indoor mode with GPS off. Oddly, although I'm on the trainer and presumably the house/bike isn't going up or down, elevation appears to change in stages throughout the ride by 50-100 feet. It seems reasonable for where I am (very close to sea level) but how can it change on the trainer. Something weird there. Garmin is being tricky! They corrected it in Garmin Connect and it shows a flat 575 feet of elevation but they sent cr*p to Training Peaks. It looks like Strava just dumped the data (good for them! maybe TP needs to do that as well)
As for the new digs, I chose the place that had a big living room divided into a smaller living room and another room that the owner was using as a studio/office. That is my "bike studio" now. Pic on the daily workout thread of Rover (bike) set up in his new digs. All the other places I looked at either had no furniture, horrible furniture, or (in the case of the "second place" apartment), way too much furniture that the owner would/could not move (three beds with elaborate attached headboard shelving units, for starters) and I didn't need, that would have left me no room for bikes, stretching, a proper study, etc. A bit sad about the last place--the complex had a REALLY nice 25m pool. My new place has a pretty basic one that's about 17-18m. Okay for recovery but I would have to be pretty desperate to train in it. But I didn't want to spend the next few years sleeping with my bike. I broke in the "bike studio" with a 3-hour ride on Sunday, unfortunately before I realised that if you don't close the window to the adjoining balcony/utility room, the warm air comes back through the AC outlet out there and then warms up the room you are trying to cool. Talk about dumb design! I'll have to go and see the picture of the bike studio! :-D |

She posted the following: Well, baby arrived yesterday right on his due date. A boy. Named Logan, weighing in at 9lbs, 7oz. Labour was fast and well, what can you say about a drug free delivery? Anyway, contractions started around 630 am. We arrived at the hospital by 830 and then he was born just after 1030. We spent the night in the hospital but should go home by lunch today. Yesterday I felt very woozy after the birth so we stayed. WOOT WOOT!! Congrats!
Do we have baby pictures? |

That uscks about the unreliable puppy sitter and it super sucks about your husband's double surgery :-( That's no fun for anyone! |

The event sounds like it would've been a lot of fun. Very tough news about your husband's shoulder, that really stinks. Wishing him and you the best outcome of the situation. |

Matt - I hope that you take the opportunity to enjoy some stuff and your increased amount of time. I'm sure you can find things in Austin that will keep you busy. Tom - I don't know that I can spin your injury in a positive light any better than your wife did. I hope you heal quickly. Karen - Congrats on your new home. Enjoy the pain cave and have fun learning all of the intricacies that come with a new place. Robin - Sorry to hear about the missed race. I'm not sure why, but it sure feels like people aren't as ready/willing to stick to their previously made plans. Enjoy all your upcoming exercise. Those of you that know me know how much I love this type of thing. This is originally from Brendan Leonard:
