Hmm ... but if a kid gets fat then it's not his or your fault. It's the fast food place's fault because of subliminal advertising. And such.

noooo.... just blame it on the teacher who called him pathetic

Yeah - wheen they first told me I looked at the list and I asked the nurse "WTF am I supposed to eat"  I was pretty sure it woould be pasta without sauce and plain white rice.  They have some pretty good cookboooks for a renal diet though, so you can get by.

The first thing my older daughter said to me after the surgery was "Does this mean we can go out for Pizza and Ice Cream now?"

I have a plan if/when I ever have kids.  Get them eating healthy right from the start so they get used to it.  Sometimes I think by growing up eating meat and potatoes, and fewer veggies than I should, and thinking going to McDonald's was a "treat" to be looked forward to has made it harder.

I want to instill in them that fast food is pretty much "bad" (like smoking and drugs)....

Which of course, means they will do all three....

you nailed it!  We started out our son eating well... lots of veggies, fruit, whole grains etc.  But they get to an age where they see that McDonald's has a PLAYGROUND and BK is advertising this cool toy in the kids meal...  Asparagus and Broccoli just can't compete with that stuff!

Hmm ... but if a kid gets fat then it's not his or your fault. It's the fast food place's fault because of subliminal advertising. And such.

heh!  I can't WAIT to be able to blame corporations, media, and enterainment for all my parenting shortcomings.  Nice to be able to shirk all responsibility.... .

Wait, can't I start doing that now?  Like start a drinking/drug problem and blame my parents....

Morning TAN.

When we drive by McD's or BK, my 6 year old says, "Mom, that's where people go to get fat, huh?"  Yep.

OK, so I brainwashed my kids...at least they don't bug me to eat fast food.

WAY TO GO MOMMA!!!!!

The first FRY our son had was given to him by my wife's friend, who is also a dietician at a hospital.

yeah, that one perplexed me.

That's the coolest thing I've ever heard in my life. That and `I was 10 before I realized my parents were lying and the car WOULD start before everybody's seatbelts were buckled.'

Interesting story....  I think some of our taste for "unhealthy" is in our DNA.

For example, once we were at a picnic and someone had a baby that was "just" learning to drink from a cup.  My wife (at the time) was holding her and she was grabbing for the coke can on the table.  My wife (at the time) asked the parents if it was ok to give her a taste of the coke and the parents said "sure" but was not sure if she would like it since she never had soda before.

Well, when the soda hit her lips, you could see her face change and her eyes lit up.  She literally could not get enough.  When my wife (at the time!) even tried to put the can back down, the girl would reach frantically for it and start to whine.  She was only happy when sipping on it...

It was really amazing and somewhat shocking to watch....  How the sweetness and sugar was so compelling....

TAN is always good for passing the time, but it seems I'm bored with the rest of BT.  No threads in Tri Talk, or COJ look even remotely interesting to read, much less post.

Maybe I'm going through vacation withdrawls and regular life seems a little less glamorous and a little more boring.

My new goal it to make day to day life more fun.....  Just thought of that while writing this.....

Nah - I get that sometimes.  What I do is stop looking at BT and do work.  That's no fun either - but since I am getting paid for it, I figure I should do it every now and again.

True - now that the market is down, and companies are doing some layoffs around here, it's best to keep on the straight and narrow work wise.....

Yup, it's pretty bad when it costs me $13.xx to put 3 gallons in my motorcycle.

When I turned 16, I could fill my Accord for $13. Ha.

When I turned 16 I could fill my Jeep for $12, and it had a big tank. I remember when I was that age I would put $5 in my tank and it'd last me a week. Wow. I'm old.

How come every house I like costs $1.6 Million?

I blame my teachers....

Because you're idealistic and have a sense of entitlement. Guess what, hoser, you're not the special unique flower your mommy says you are. NOW HTFU and go get a $200,000 house like the rest of us working schmucks.

Edit: That scene if Fight Club about why people our age are angry really hit home.

X2

When I started driving my parents were complaining that gas was over a $1.  The very first time I filled my car, gas was $1.03/gal.

Who else remembers when $1 a gallon was kind of a "standard" benchmark.  Less was nice, and a couple cents more seemed like prices were going up....

I was going to say the same thing.  I had a conversion van and I could put in $5 and get a quarter of a tank.

When I was in high school, I told my parent that "someday, I'm going to have a half million dollar home."  There response was "life isn't about money and how big your house is".

Well, I have a half million dollar home, and it's a small P.O.S......  Times have changed.....

Got to drop 1.5 mil to get something really nice around here....
