I cant wait to burn the cals on the beer mile.

As we all know, it takes 1 calorie to heat 1 gram of water 1 degree centigrade. Translated into meaningful terms, this means that if you consume very cold beverages (generally consisting of water in large part), the natural processes which raise the consumed beverage to body temperature during the digestive cycle literally sucks the calories out of the only available source, your body fat.

For example, a beer served and drank near 0 degrees C (32.2 deg. F) will in a short time be raised to the normal body temperature of 37 degrees C (98.6 deg. F). For each gram of fluid consumed, that process takes approximately 37 calories as stated above. The average beer is 12 oz, or 336 grams. Therefore, by operation of thermodynamic law, 12,432 calories (1 cal./gm/deg. x 37 deg. x 336 g) are extracted from body fat as the liquid’s temperature is normalized.

I KENOTT swim - 2010-02-03 3:52 PM I hate to agree but I know you are faster than this.  When was the last time you ran a 5K ...2003?  I bet you had better splits than 7:33 pace on a tri sprint run.

smilford - 2010-02-03 8:38 AM
Trin2bfast - 2010-02-03 8:36 AM Ha... you're faster then me Ken ~ my recorded PR for a 5K is a 7:33 pace. I'll take those 17 seconds! Enjoy the beer a bit more!
Weenie, you can run faster than that.

Don't be hatin' dawg! none of my sprint tri's have been true 5K's...  My last 5k race was Oct 2008. So suck it up buttercup!... I will run faster when beer is consumed! Ha Ha!

I'm calling BS on that! Tejas 6:26/mi don't give me it was only 3M crap!

I'm screwed too, hoping for a +90 (7:36). I don't think fatty has asked his MG if they want to join in the fun, he must be scared. Either way I'm planning to knock my mile out sometime this month. Next weekend maybe? Just need to find a place to do it without getting arrested, pretty sure Memorial Park wouldn't appreciate the festivities.

Hi All,

Checking in to say Hi.  The winter is getting old quickly and I am looking forward to the 40's.  Wow never thought I would say that out loud.  Doing a lot of things I never thought I would do but loving it!

Going to read thru the past couple of days and catch up on the group.

Okay...I think I am officially out of hibernation.  It's been a rough couple days at work but I'm hoping today will be better.

Not so sure about the beer mile run as I do not enjoy beer  Maybe some other form of beverage....

Thomas asked about my commuter bike, and I thought I'd post a picture of it here because I'm awfully proud of it.  I built it last year with parts from 6 different online retailers, and the frame I bought online directly from Fetish Cycles in AZ.  Every single part, from the frame to the bar tape, was on sale.  The end result WOULD have been cheap if I were a good enough mechanic to put it together in a timely way.  The time I spent building it was worth far more than the bike itself!

Gearing is 46/16 (perfect for claiming a lane in downtown traffic), and it weighs right around 17 lbs. It's got a freewheel--I'm way too old to be riding a fixie every day.

Margarita Mile! Add the frozen + brain freeze = a whole new element of difficulty! Ha!Memorial Park will probably host willingly... HRTC has held their Beer Mile event in the past.Fatty wants us to do it as a group - adds to the fun...individual efforts on their own won't be as much fun nor as entertaining!

I'm super behind in the posts, i've been super busy the last 4 days with family and work stuff..  Glanced over them and saw a beer mile challenge?  I'm in..

talking about beer... I bought one of those mini kegs of Heineken Light last week thinking it was cheaper and better for the environment (no bottles and less cans).  Even though I was trying to do good, I didn't...  I ended-up drinking the whole thing in 4 days.  Usually I have a beer with dinner or something..  I ended-up having 3+ a night and drinking a glass or two after my workout as my recovery drink..  Not good.  I want to buy another one but my will power needs to improve.
