One would think that turning off GPS would be enough for the software to know that there is no need to record elevation but, sadly, that is not the case. I heard back from Garmin and they said: "There is not a way to disable it from being recorded into the activity file." |

We are now officially a family of 4 and at 10 lbs, 2 oz, I wouldn't be surprised if he's a future Clydesdale . Congratulations! |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed No race this weekend, but 5k speed seems to be right around 19 minutes now from a 5k fun run that work put on through their month long wellness program. Had hoped for more to show up, but only like 10 did to run plus a some more to walk (just covering the distance gets credit). Probably just lucked out and picked a coincidental bad date. |

There's now a 25% chance I'm still going to be able to race on Sunday which would be great because I could use a good sweat after all the hospital food/cookies/etc! I can only imagine how rough it'll be but would still be fun after being what feels like I've been locked up in a hospital room forever! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Maybe he needs the product my student showed me last week. He picked these up at a local sports store and claims they are "triathlon goggles" that can be used for swim, bike, and run. He and his buddies (who have a "bike club") actually did a "triathlon" over the weekend (I think swimming in their apartment pool, biking around the neighborhood, and chasing each other around the block) and he claimed they were good for all three "events". Similar to the goggles that some NBA players wear. They look a little weird as run eyewear but hey, it would be one less thing to screw up/drop/forget/mess with in transition! |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Almost overlooked that the controversial Nike 2 hr marathon attempt happens overnight. And St George is going on tomorrow. Sebastian Keinle, Lionel Sanders, Alistair Brownlee. A guy like Tim Don being an afterthought is incredible. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Kim (ingleshteechur) from BT is doing St. George. As for the 2-hour marathon attempt, meh. Someone will come along with the right combination of genetic gifts, training, and perfect race, and do it someday, project or no project. I understand it's on a track--somehow that doesn't seem like a real marathon. I think I would become mentally unglued just trying to do 10K on a track (and, in fact, did so quite a bit in college--never had my fastest 10K there; always on the roads). |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed It was on a race car track, had a pace car just in front, pacers rotating in and out, and had some other prohibited tech gear. Part of me wanted to be excited for it, but the majority was rather meh. Fit it within competition rules. I don't like completely ignoring stuff, but with the amount of attention grabbing things today I'd rather not build up something like that as it may very well take away from the real attempt. |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Did anyone make it? Haven't seen anything on the news. Or has it not started/finished yet? Personally for me I doubt anything could beat watching Paula Radcliffe's world record. She was just flying in those last miles! |

Master 8249 Eugene, Oregon | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Found it online--ouch...missed by 26 seconds! Still, someone will get it, probably in the next 3-5 years is my guess, in an actual race. |

I couldn't get excited for this artificial marathon record attempt. Running as fast as these guys did is amazing, but the whole set up left me cold. |

Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: More Manatee Mayhem - 2017 Edition - Closed Yeah, after a quick check to see if it happened I'm moving on. The St George race is so much more compelling. I've heard some sound logic suggesting that the Brownlee's strength is not actually the run but the bike with how hard they go. It's just less visible in draft legal since they don't break away completely. |
