My wetsuit slows me down because of the lack of flexibility in the shoulders, so I'm not bringing mine. I doubt the water is going to drop enough to make it legal anyway.

Yea, I'm just too cheap to pay more than I already have for something I'll use maybe 3 times a year.

Well, I bought a very nice and expensive one... and it slows me down. So I think it's just how it goes with wearing a wetsuit.

To all those who are nervous, you have two things to remember. Endorfun Sports puts on a great event with terrific support, thanks to Keith and many others. My first HIM was in Galveston this past March with Keith and it couldn't have gone smoother.

Second, remember that if you not a little nervous about an event then that probably means you really don't care about it in your heart. Its not you body that is going to take you to the finish line its what is in your heart and mind, and a passionate heart, and desire will take you farther than any training can ever. Its good to be nervous before big events.

That's a great way of looking at it I love Endorfun Sports, it's the only reason I decided to try out this HIM distance, I can't imagine doing my first with another company. I know the race is going to be a blast and can't wait, but every time I look at my calendar and see how close it is the butterflies act up

I hate wetsuits, I am definitely slower when I wear one

Was back out on the course today.  Still saw the road cracks--though a few may have been filled in some.  It wasn't AS intimidating or scary this time as it wasn't a group of us riding on the road, but rather two of us in a line, so you could easily see what's ahead--more like a race.  I also will have to say I think Liggit is worse on the cracks than Blake Manor like I said last time.  Just watch where you're going and look ahead before you pass and you'll be fine.  I think the 1st half of the ride is a little tougher than the second half of the ride.  Also, be careful at the turn from Blake Manor to 969, it's a downhill into a sharp right turn.  I'm sure it'll be marked and staffed, just look for it when you drive the course and be prepared.

Otherwise, it was about 90 out there today and fairly windy, but the heat really didn't seem to bad--I'm sure y'all from up north may have it differently, but for you Texans, it was pretty nice out there today.  Lots of fields, so expect some bugs on the bike--I had a dragonfly slam into my helmet! Glad it was my helmet!

Signs are already up all over the roads telling people that to expect delays on that day due to the triathlon.

See y'all in two weeks!!

Forgive me, but I have another question... being my first major race, I don't think I'll ever feel prepared enough.

What should I expect things to be like on race day? I just watched the TV coverage of Clearwater 70.3 that I had recorded a long time ago. I noticed all sorts of little things that made me wonder if how its going to be at Longhorn. Some of the things I can think of right now...

1. The size of transition, its huge!
2. Rows of bags coming into transition, nothing on the ground in your spot
3. Volunteers taking your bike when you come into T2
4. Changing tents
5. Large crowds (probably due to it being the championship)

Is the atmosphere and all the details things to expect at Longhorn, or will it be more subdued? I honestly don't know what to expect on race day. Any kind of insight from people who have done other IM branded 70.3 races?

I have seen the clearwater footage as well. I have also done buffalo springs ironman 70.3 a very old and popular race on the series.

First, its big there are alot of people. I don't know how many are signed up but I am sure its not as many as clearwater. To me that makes it more fun. There are more people out there suffering with you.

Second, at all the HIM I have done I have never used a special needs bag and I don't know many to use them either.

Taking your bikes??? I don't think that will be the case at this race I think this will be addressed at the pre race meetings. In order to have people to take bikes, you need alot of volunteers at the race. If you were to rank the importance of where volunteers would be needed, wet suit strippers and bike catchers probably are not at the top of the list.

My last comment is a quote of mine that I came up with and repeat to myself many times throughout training and on race day. All of the things you commented about seem as if your some what apprehensive or nervous, however there is a common thread amongst all your questions. What is that thread? Well my quote should sum it up.

"Always remember to stay in control, but never forget what you can and cannot control" -- Brett Skyllingstad

#2 won't be an issue, this isn't a "clean" transition so you'll be setup right next to your bike. They didn't have #4 last year at Longhorn, and I don't see it in the athlete guide either. #5 is lively, but not large crowds really. That might change with this being an official M-dot race.

Well, I did it last year before it became and "offical half"... but here are the answers for you...

1) It wasn't that big. It was fine. Nothing like Ironman Kentucky I just did.

2) We had our stuff in transition beside our bikes. You rack your bike where your name and number is and the morning of you setup beside the bike.

3) No volunteers to take your bike.

4) Maybe they had one? Honestly, in a HIM you should not be changing. Tri top/shorts for the whole race. I didn't see anyone changing.

5) The crowds were fine last year, but it was nothing like I saw in Kentucky. Really the size of the crowd is directly related to how many racers there are.

The wind in Central TX blows from every direction...nope, not lying...there have been some rides that I've wondered if I'll ever get a tail wind.  There is no predominate direction, especially this time of year when you can have warm fronts and cool fronts blowing into town.  N,E,S,W, it could come from ANYWHERE!

Just an FYI, the Austin temps are forecast to be in the high 80's to low 90's for the next 10 days according to weather.com.  The water is not likely to cool down, if that holds true.

Prepare for a cool morning with water temperatures above wetsuit legal and a warm to hot day with winds in your face on the bike and still on the run and you will be fine.  Also, get your hill running in as a prep for the race.

Hill running? Aww man, I'm from Louisiana . . .lol. I'm prepared to hurt a lot on the run!  Hopefully the bike will be my friend, at least not killing me too much.  I can't wait to see!!

Dumb question time: for the Sunday night "shindig" at Hill's Cafe; do you have to purchase the meal tickets, or can you just show up and enjoy the party? It isn't 100% clear in the description, and I'd hate to show up and be turned away if I didn't have a meal ticket...

Here's the answers...LOTS OF PEOPLE compared to last year. There were 950 last year. There are 2300+. Transition is MUCH bigger as well.

There are special needs bags. the HOOPLA is more than Clearwater, IMO. We have 8 bands on course, a highschool marching band, DJ, themed aid stations, sponge stations, towel stations, and a few other surprises.

Honestly, I think we may have too much going on out there.

We have bleachers at the finish line this year, that are COVERED with tents, to keep the spectators cool.

We're really fired up for the race, as you can probably tell

Blake Manor and Littig do have some cracks. They weren't there two months ago. Basically, since it hasn't rained here in months, the ground underneath has continued to contract, which is cracking the roads. Blake Manor was immaculate 2 months ago, which is why I chose to go down it.

We'll have volunteers out there, too. Most of the course is free of cracks, it's only in a few areas. Some of the potholes we're going to fill personally with coldpatch. We'll spray chalk the cracks.

Since you change/grab your stuff at your bike rack, we don't have bike handlers. Not really a need. The only 70.3 that does this is the 70.3 Championships.

We're already receiving supplies. 10 pallets of water coming tomorrow, 8,000 powergels and 4000 powerbars just showed up. Hats and medals arrived, towels just showed up too....

Packets are being stuffed....Trucks are being loaded. Set up at the race site starts a week from today
