LoL, I'll put the picture I took of the Potomac during the nations tri up on my album.  There is a reason there are so many relay's for that one, no one who lives up here wants to swim in it near DC.

Steve, sorry to hear your parents won't make it for Christmas.  Weather really sucks for things other than just tri training.  Remember to take lots of pictures and video to share some memories.

I am sad..... I just found out that my parents cancelled their flight to Seattle for Xmas. After rescheduling 3 times due to weather they had to BAG IT!!! This is the 1st time in 32 years that I haven't been with my parents on XMAS day!!!

BUMMER!

Sorry about your parents - that is a bummer. I am 41 and have spent every Christmas with my parents! If you were closer (I'm in PA) you could ride your bike over and spend Xmas with my parents - they are great!!

Wow, I missed a few days and everybody seems like they are old friends - and I am the 5th (or maybe 15th) wheel!! Hope everyone's training is going well as the Holidays approach - because mine has been nonexistent!! But, I did just sign up for this:

http://www.midatlanticmultisport.com/camps_2009_spring.htm

I am excited, I think it will be cool, and maybe I can learn a thing or two.

Keep up the good workouts!

Karen

WOW, you go away for a swim and lunch and you are really behind in this group!

Tracy, thanks for the poem.  I am going to pass it on to a few people I know.  Promise not to take credit for it .  I am the queen of massage, nearly every body part has had something done to it since I started running!  Love deep tissue work, especially on the glutes and piriformis! In fact, I have one later this afternoon.

Tony, I am no expert, but I do have an online running coach. I got to the point where I wanted to improve and had stalled out using the standard plans.  I have worked with him for about three years, steadily improved in every distance since doing so.  I have also worked with a bike coach a few times, especially on form and pedal stroke improvement.  I learned a lot in only a few sessions.  I am considering using her this summer for tri training.  I really struggle with balance between three sports even with a plan to follow and think she could help quite a bit.  I am hesitating a bit because I really love my running coach.

Steve,  I am really sorry to hear your parents will not be able to make it.  Maybe they can reschedule and you can do a belated New Years celebration sometime in January?  I know it is not the same, but at least it would be something to look forward to.  By the way, I saw Seattle on the National news.  Funny to see people sledding down some of your major roads!

We are braced for another snow blast with 7 inches coming tonight and and another 7 tomorrow night.  So far, we have had 35 inches, a definite record.  Oh well, winter in WI!

Sorry about that news Steve.  I'm sure it'll be strange that day without them with you.  That weather is crazy over there right now - stay safe.

Suzy, don't give me credit either.  I was bored this morning at work and stoll it off the internet.  I just changed the names to match our group. Here is the source data:   The Night Before a Triathlete Christmas (best of revised) from EveryMan Triathlon by [email protected] (Roman Mica) Steve, sorry about your folks. Bumber.

Karen, where outside of Phili?  I used to live in DE and my dad grew up in Lancaster Co. so I am somewhat familar with that area?  The training camp sounds cool.  Have fun.

I am off to the gym to go pump some iron.  Have fun in the snow - everyone but me Cry

So here are a few pictures from Saturday... We still had a day and half of snow after this.... A lot of this from the wind 50+mph winds we had.  Lots of snow drift... The dog didn't even want to go out and he usually breaks trail when we snow shoe.... (shown in very last picture)

That's too cool.  One inch of snow completely shuts down our state.  Arkansasns don't deal well with winter weather.  We can take a tornado with the best of 'um, but goodness help us all with a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk if anything frozen falls from the sky...

...we are supposed to get some ice in the morning!  Quick - - - to the store for milk and a loaf of bread!!!

Too bad about the parents Steve I moved from Alberta to Ontario about 23 years ago and unfortunately I have been unable to spend Christmas with my family at all. I still miss them and call them every Christmas eve. Liked the pictures, why is the barbeque is all covered up. We barbecue all year round up here and you're actually north of me. You're at latitude 47 degrees I am at 43.

Hey everyone, I had a question on muscle cramps..  during my swim my toes started to cramp.  It started pretty much from the start of my swim and it made me have a horrible run afterwards.  The cramping move to my hamstring area..  I never had this happen before even when I first started to train for my first sprint tri.  I actually had some minor toe cramping last week during my lesson but not as bad...  I've been stretching more but not sure what else i can do.  Does anyone know what could be the cause?

Generally the cramping is caused by cold, overexertion or a lack of calcium. I have been lucky and not sufferred much with cramps. I find that bananas are good to help with cramping and generally eat one a day.

What should I do tomorrow?

My quads and calves are still pretty sore from my run (6.3m) on sunday.  I have not been this sore since starting 3 months ago.  I did a little spin recovery on bike tonight, and I don't want to leave a blank on my log tomorrow.

Should I try to run a slow couple of miles or maybe try to walk run 3 or just lay off?

Dehydration is usually the cause of cramps for me.

Blank days are good on the log sheet... THOSE ARE CALLED REST DAYS!!! They are just as important as the workouts!! If you are sore, take a day off, but I think you will find that you are feeling better after a nice easy run tomorrow!!!!

I had an awesome day skiing today.  We hiked off to a less crowded part of the hill for several runs and got some great POWDER runs.  I hadn't skied in a couple years and we hit some stuff that was among the steeper terrain I've ever skied.  It was awesome, awesome, awesome.

Tony, that's a bummer about the pool.  Bathtub?

eta: And it only took me an hour to shovel my driveway when we got home.  Great workout!

It could also be when swimming you are keeping your feet very tense, using those muscles to keep your feet pointed out.  Try letting your feet relax and see if that helps.

Again I will say not jealous of the snow unless it closes down the Gov't cause then I don't have to go to work : )

Everyone ready for the holidays?  In 2 days my house will probably burst from all the toys my kids will get from the relatives.

After Sundays unprecedented run my quads are a little tight. I think a short workout today will relieve that just fine. I have a 2 hour hockey game tomorrow also. That should loosen them right up. After that we are going to be so busy that I doubt I will get another workpout in until probably Sunday unless I run outside (ugg and brrrr). Maybe I will get some outdoor running gear from Santa.
Merry Christmas to everyone .

Did find a Mtn bike race in January woo hoo!

Will be cold but nice to be back outside competing.

LOL, next I need to sit by the computer in January and wait for setup events to open, there are a few that will sell out in less than an hour.
