Extreme Veteran 730 Milford, MI | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread kenb321 The swim is going to be a split swim. You will swim from Breakers beach out and over then run on the beach and get back in and swim the half swim course. The swim start will be a mass start for the full with everyone, other than the pros, going off from the beach at 7:00. So the full course they have posted isn't correct? |

Veteran 284 | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread I was up at the training day yesterday and had a great time. The swim clinic was great; I learned two techniques that I think will be helpful - dolphining the start and how to make a 90 degree buoy turn with one stroke. Really good stuff. I also got a taste of Lake Erie, which was cool because now I know I need to wait until I'm on top of a wave to sight, otherwise you can't see crap and you get hit in the face with a wave. The bike course is pretty flat and I didn't think the chip seal was all that bad. And the wind wasn't too bad either. It was cool riding with a group the first 50 miles and then I got a flat and was own my own for the next 55 (once I got back to the resort around mile 94-95 I just kept going for a bit). The Cera drink has a much weaker taste than Gatorade and I didn't seem to have any issues with it. Of course, at one of the refueling stops I ate a couple of packs of Famous Amos cookies without issues so maybe I have an iron stomach. Anyways a fun time and I'm glad I went and got some time on the course and in the lake. Does anyone know the answer to the following questions: 1.)Will there be wetsuit strippers? 2.)Will there be a special needs bag halfway through the bike? 3.)Can you run without a shirt on? I would have asked the rev3 folks these yesterday but by the time I got back to the resort it was a ghost town! |

Oh, one more question. Are there change tents? And if so can I get nekkid after the bike and put on my short shorts? I prefer to run with as little clothes as possible. Less chaffage. |

Veteran 148 | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread There will be changing tents. you can get as nekkid as you want. You will have to give your transition bags for the bike and the run the night before. When you enter transition they will give you your stuff to change into. You will give the special needs bags the morning of the race. USAT rules do not mention any shirt rules, but any official Ironman requires a shirt- unless your a chick! |

Master 2210 Columbus, Ohio Coaching member | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread kenb321 - 2010-08-22 9:27 AM I rode the course last week and yesterday. The improvement in the chip seal roads is enormous in just one week. I think that 3 weeks from now, they will be great. Rev3 did tell us yesterday, the finish line will be inside Cedar Point. There will be no charge to get in to the park to see the finish line. After 8, the park is closed and the area where fans can go will expand. You will need to pay for parking. The swim is going to be a split swim. You will swim from Breakers beach out and over then run on the beach and get back in and swim the half swim course. The swim start will be a mass start for the full with everyone, other than the pros, going off from the beach at 7:00. I don't quite understand about the swim.... It's two loops with a beach run in the middle? |

Regular 92 Vero Beach | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread Anyone shipping their bike in from out of state??? The company that Rev3 is using wants the bike by Monday the 6th, which is Labor Day. That means is all reality you have to have the bike there by Saturday the 4th (no shipping on Sunday or Monday). I would have to ship the bike early the previous week to get it there in time coming from Florida. Not to happy about that...just saying |

Extreme Veteran 730 Milford, MI | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread So was anyone lucky enough to get one of the gps trackers? I must have missed the notice about how to sign up for one cuz they're all gone now. On Sunday I'd asked them about it and they said you have to go to some link on the Rev3 website. I found a link to Trakker in their vendor listing so I went out to that site and then sent them an email. Trakker said the units are all gone now. I'm now thinking about taking my iPhone with me on the bike and installing a gps app on my laptop for my family to use. Not sure how well it'll work, but might be better than nothing. |

Extreme Veteran 580 | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread How choppy was the lake? I know that the lake is huge, but I was still surprised to hear about waves. I did IMFL last year - should I expect similar conditions? I am surprised that there are no wetsuit strippers - thank God for TriSlide because otherwise I would not be able to get my suit off! |

Swimming in Erie is in no way like ocean swimming from my experience. If the winds are wrong the chop sometimes has no rhythm to it especially on Erie due to it's shallowness it doesn't take much to churn it up, where in ocean swells you can get used to the rolling waves and time things better. Lake chop is hard to time so sometimes when your face breaks the water you'll be getting water when your expecting a breath. I've swam in some good surf off the coast of the Outer Banks in North Carolina and found it much easier then the rough choppy waters in a tri on Lake Erie in the wrong conditions.

Regular 124 Gurnee, IL | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread Website says they "encourage wetsuits" although their facebook page indicated the water was at 76 degrees last week! The new swim course is posted on the website. Looks like they are trying to make it similar regardless if we swim to the east (original plan) or the west (backup plan) - the west was always two loops - so now we do two loops either way. For those who don't like the CeraSport - Gatorade has single stick pouches - like the Crystal Light. You can either get them at a sporting goods store like Sports Authority - or I found them at the local grocery. Carrying 7 or 8 in a pocket or a Bento Box would be pretty easy - then just pour in a water bottle and shake. |

I have never swam in Lake Erie, but it sounds similar to theswim I had in Lake Ponchatrain earlier this year. It ws miserable and like rottie mentioned, the chop was all over the place. |

Member 58 | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread Did an Oly in Vermilion a few weeks ago (20 miles east of Sandusky on Lake Erie) and the water was glass at shoreline, but when you got out to the furthest point and swam parallel to lake, there were some 1-1.5 ft waves. definitely something new for me. Gotta figure it will be just as bad if not worse for CP. |

Member 53 Kentucky | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread I can't seem to find transition information anywhere. For the half will it be a clean transition area with T1 and T2 bags, bike handlers, etc or will it be more like a regular tri with all our stuff next to our bike and we manage everything? |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread Ok... been to the websites, but I can't find out this (should be) simple question... Cerasport on the bike course (at the handouts) -what size (oz) bottle? -what nutritional information for that size? All I could find was the nutritional info for the mix... which I assume isn't what they are handing out. This would really help mapping out my nutrition on the bike |

Master 2210 Columbus, Ohio Coaching member | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread I downloaded the official program guide from Knoxville to see if it would shed any light on the issues above (special needs bags, transition questions) but it is a HIM, so this stuff probably didn't come up. This is their first Full, so I'm guessing they want to make sure they have everything right before they post something. That, or we will find out in the athlete meeting! I, too, would love to know where the aid stations are going to be on the bike, how transition will work (our own space at our bike, or bags in a tent, or a combination?) but so far my experiences with Rev3 have been great, so I am trying to bite my tongue. I'm sure they will issue the Official Program Guide soon and all our questions will be answered. |

New user 10 | Subject: RE: Revolution3 IM Sandusky Ohio : Official Thread Only the full is a clean transition. The half will be a normal transition. We are working on getting bike handlers for the full. Sorry, don't think we will have wetsuit peelers this year. We will add in the future as more volunteers signup. Our athlete guide will go out Monday at the latest and be posted on our website. All bikes must be racked on Saturday. There is no athlete registration or bike check-in Sunday!! The roads will be in good shape....don't worry about that. Lets all pray for calm water conditions There will be bike special needs for full racers at approx. mile 50 and mile 13 for the run. Changing tents in transition (male and female). For full racers, very short beach run between swim loops. Sorry for all the random thoughts. There is good rhyme and reason for all our decisions, I promise Can't wait to meet and see you all in a few weeks!!! Happy Tapering! Eric |
