shawn barr - 2011-01-03 3:38 PM Sugar is staying in my coffee. It's not the couple of teaspoons of sugar i use each day that's killing me - it's the bacon, second hamburger, handfuls of chips, etc. I'll give up that point and make it up in more minutes or some extra fruit and vegetables.

Shawn - I LOVE your commitment to sugar and the reasons why!
I'm not a sugar adder - but I am a big fan of BEER - my personal challenge was to not drink during the week but I just got Celtics tickets so that plan has gone straight out the window.  Tonight I'll forgo the fried greasy salty goodness at the food windows and just drink my dinner Don't worry I've already flooded my system with 64oz of cool clean water so I won't be sneaking a point under that column.

Morning All!

I have to get used to the increased chat again after a quiet Crusher challenge last month - I like it though

I think I have my month off to a decent start despite the fact that I have a stinking cold and blocked sinuses - seriously, we are in the middle of summer, somewhere between 25 and 35 most of the time and I have a cold!!!

I've said before and I'll say it again. BT must have some kind of virus 'cause we're all getting sick. jk.  I was lucky and didn't get it too bad this time around. I hope all you sick people get better soon so you can achieve your new year's resolutions. It also sucks to start the season behind because you were sick when you should have started your training plan and we don't want that so get better peoples!

My opinion on sugar/honey is how it is being used...  It the honey being added to a food or drink just to make it sweeter?  If so, I'd probably count it as a sugar.  But, honestly, I'm not really a fan of honey...  so I don't know what else you'd use it for other than sweetening.  Am I making any sense?

Wow, the group has grown in the 3 days I took off the computer! Yay!

This is a good question - I actually try to force myself to eat honey because it is supposed to help with my allergies. However, I hate it! So, I sneak it into smoothies (only way I'll eat it), but I can't taste it. Does this count against me?

Anyway, I did bad this weekend - low water and fruits and veggies. I did get a good long run in though. Today I'll start with the rest

I think its probably my own fault because while being genuinely sympathetic for everyone who has been sick I have been feeling slightly smug that I never get sick - doh!

How can you hate it?!!! You are crazy!
On another note, it helps with your allergies? I don't have allergies myself, just curious....

I'm in; but it said I didn't have permission to open the spreadsheet. I sent a request through google to get permission. Anything else I need to do?

Thanks for starting the challenge!

Go here: https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=tpa5iZ6XoKc4GxdRCYPtniA&hl=e...

You will need to enter the following information to logon* :

If you can't access the spreadsheet:
Scroll to the bottom, and look at the bottom right corner. If it says, "edit this page," click that link and enter the info above.

(* If you are already logged into Google with your own account, log out first, then log in again using the above email & password. You can then "share" the spreadsheet with your regular email address.)

QueenZipp - 2010-12-30 11:14 AM Love the points.

For those of us who rarewly eat sugary stuff or drink soda it seems an unfair point advantage to have those count.....but I guess it's good motivation for those who do struggle there!

Yes, I am in!!

Then you'd better out challege those of us that have no intention of giving up the soda.  :-)

wgraves7582 - 2011-01-03 8:38 AM I don't feel a cap is fair though if I go out for a 4 hour bike ride in January in Buffalo.  I should get points for 240 minutes because I did the activity.
I don't think "points" would be sufficient motivation to get me outside for 4 hrs in January in Buffalo.... I'd need... I'd need... Hm. Nope. I can't think of anything I want that much. Maybe that's why I keep moving SOUTH. I think we should all move in with Yanti.

michwea - 2011-01-02 9:15 AM So so for Day 1.  Managed a run and gulped down way more than 64 oz. of water.  I'm usually pretty good about that and don't anticipate it to be a problem.  We're low on provisions at the moment, so I fell short on the fruits and veggies.  All was going to be OK on the junk food front until I went scavenging for an evening snack.  Avoided the sweet stuff that seems to be sitting everywhere in abundance, but couldn't stay away from some popcorn.

On to Day 2!

Popcorn is only junk food when you load it with lots of butter, salt or sugar (like kettle corn). At least that's how I see it.

I like your way of thinking!  I didn't exactly 'load' it up...it's the prefab microwave stuff.  Granted it was the Oroville Redenbacher lite stuff which isn't as crap laden, but it wasn't exactly clean either.  If I would have made some air popped, I would have called it good.

You might try agave nectar...I use it in tea occasionally.  It's just sweet enough and doesn't seem to have that artificial, tinny taste that some of the manufactured sweetners seem to have.

My dad does this too.  For years spring meant never going outside and even then he had red puffy eyes, sneezing and congestion and was miserable with allergies for about 2 months.  He tried the honey last year for the first time and it worked wonders!  He barely had problems with his allergies.  Only a couple times did it flare up but that was after spending quite a bit of time outside which he was never able to do previous years.  So no... honey for allergies will not count against you!

rnihill - 2011-01-03 12:27 PM OK, I'm heading outside for a walk around the building...  The scale scared me this morning and I need something constructive to do so I don't reach in my drawer for the packet of yummy hot cocoa...

Swiss Miss makes a sugar free 25 calorie mix that I keep around for chocolate emergencies.  Not too bad (once you get used to it)

Caved to the diet coke again last night.  Missed my no sugar-junk food-soda point again.  I'll get the sucker today for sure!

The only time I use honey is about a teaspoon in plain greek yogurt to take away some of the tang.  The other is to make honey-mustard dip for my grilled chicken and turkey burgers.  If you really want to get rid of sugar in your diet, you will probably need to get rid of salad dressings, ketchup, BBQ sauces....etc.  Most of those will have sugar or corn syrup as one of the first 3 ingredients.

Turns out I am hypersensitive to "cold medicine". I spent the last few days nearly stoned. It was that or cough a lung up. NOT my favorite way to live. I cannot wait to get this totally gone!
