Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread They won't cancel the full. They have 140 people, that is still a decent amount for a full. My first full was Redman in OKC and there was only maybe 200 people if that many. I have seen the half was over 300 so there doing ok. Probably not as many as they would hope but first year, January, it will take some time to build the brand. |

It seems that the tides are turning w/regards to "Ironman" brand races and more people are looking at smaller, less expensive, better service type races. You can see how much traction Rev3 is gaining/has gained. I am closely watching how this race goes and would love to do it in 2014. I have a personal rule of not doing inaugural races. Keep training and keep posting. Some are living vicariously through others. Good Luck, Andrew

Regular 79 NWA | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread Hey gang- So, I still consider myself a newbie to this sport...Its been a year. I've completed 6 tri's...only 1 being an Oly distance...and so far it was my favorite (Redman, OK). I am registered for my first HIM - Galveston in April 2013 - currently training for a half marathon in a week...I wanted very badly to do IM Florida 2013, but it didn't happen...I was ready and with four computers and two people - unable to get a spot. I am trying to decide what to do and need your assistance...THANKS in advance. I would like to do either Cozumel 2013 or Bone Island 2014...I know Cozumel is an established race, actually went down there in 2011 to watch a friend compete (and got myself hooked). What I need from you guys are post-race reports from KW...Cozumel doesn't sell out very fast, and I'm going to wait until I hear about Bone Island before I commit. I'd rather be in KW...I've been 4 times and I have loved it every time (and the idea of ending on Duval St. is pretty freaking cool)...we usually fly into Ft. Lauderdale and drive down and that drive NEVER gets old for someone who lives in a land-locked state. Getting to Key West is quite a bit cheaper for me and the hubs than Cozumel (we stay on the military base there - SUPER cheap)...but, I'm curious about biking road conditions (I can't remember how beat up A1A is, I've always done it in a car...), race organization and race support. I know IM races bring the supporters out in huge numbers, and for a race this distance...it sure is nice to have people along the course. I hope the city and keys support the race! Look forward to your opinions on this! Hope its okay to ask you guys questions post-race! I'll keep checking in on ya in this thread...Keep Calm & Train On! Thanks |

Well your training kicked the crap out of mine. I run a Little Debbie Distributorship and as everyone has seen by now our biggest competitor Hostess went out of business last week. Welcome about a 70 hour work week last week. I didn't know which way was up by the end. Think I ended up with about 2.5 hrs of training last week. Gonna call it a step back week Got extra people working for me this week and should be back on plan. Need to have a solid 5 weeks of training til the New Year and then back it down for a couple of weeks. |

Hope everyone's feeling fresher than I am! I'm doing pretty good with my training. Long bikes aren't as fast as I would like but the darn wind keeps playing games with me. I guess it beats being on the trainer. I tried a run/walk strategy Sat after my ride (91.2 miles) and ran 4 minutes / walked 1 minute and I felt really good. I decided to try it again on my long run Sunday and I think I like it. I did 14 miles Sunday and felt like I could have easily gone further and still held a good pace (for me). Now if I could only find the motivation to start swimming a little more. |

Actually, that might have run into my early 30's, if I'm really being honest. LOVE me some of that baked goodness... In all seriousness, a grateful nation salutes your efforts last week. |

Veteran 126 Lakeland | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread I'm in. I raced Coz IM this weekend and didn't make the swim cutoff due to the currents. They were really strong, there was about 200 of us that got pulled. It was like swimming in an endless pool. Anyway since I trained for an IM, I'm not gonna let a DNF stop me. I live in Lauderdale, so it's close by relatively. I think the course will be nice, but the point to point swim sold me. See you all in Key West! |

Just doing my part to stir on the economy The looks I get from people are priceless when they find out that I do IM's and sell Little Debbies. People will say "oh you must not eat any of that stuff then" couldn't be further from the truth |

10 | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread Hi all, I wanted to check in to the group. We have three from Charleston, SC coming down and for our part I think we're ok with where our conditioning is (while having some anxiety about where our conditioning is). It depends on which hour of the day you ask -- I'm sure you can relate! For two of us this will be our first full and the third already has one under her belt. We are all excited and eager to get down there. Blue waters await (the part I no longer hate). Training over the holidays sure is, um, interesting! Hope y'all are excited to be close to tapering, I sure am and so are my family/friends/pets/washing machine! Brian Charleston |

Master 1795 Boynton Beach, FL | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread I'm in! Had this race int he back of my mind for a while and waited to see how I did with HIM a few weeks ago at Miami Man. My training is wwwaaayyy behind, but hey why not. Just had 2 more people from my area sign up yesterday as well. Now to try and find a hotel! Followed this race since they announced it and seems they have their act together. I have done a few other inaugural races and they were either really good or were a comedy of errors. I will remain an optimist. Love the fact I can drive to the race and now off to get a full sleeve wet suit. I am spoiled by warm weather races and my sleeveless is not worth suffering through a few jellyfish stings the remainder of the B/R. Good luck all. |

Extreme Veteran 392 Raleigh | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread SAT: 2800m swim, 10mi run SUN: 65mi bike. [I have been slacking on long bike rides - 45d and bike riding for 4-5 hours just isn't as much fun as it sounds] Thinking about using a long sleeve compression under my sleeveless wetsuit in lieu of renting a full wetsuit. Any thoughts as to why this is a good/ bad idea. My thoughts on the swim... face down flailing along, jelly fish/ Portuguese MoW leaps in front of me, I am unlikely going to be able to stop dead and more than likely will swim over the bugger. My hands and face are still exposed even if I am in a full wetsuit. I am pretty sure if I face plant on a Portuguese MoW... my race is over. Does it really matter to wear a full vs sleeveless? P.S. I am now thinking about a bottle of vinegar in T1 just in case. |

Had your same luck as you last week. Friday was my long ride and my cord popped out of my computrainer just over 94 miles. I was starting to fade pretty hard so I called it a night. Was supposed to happen during the day but sickness is running ramped in my neck of the woods and I took a 3hr nap instead. Didn't get going til after 10:40 at night. So at 3:30 am when I finished up I bailed on the run also. Sat- the best race of my year, the annual Frolic Bar run. 5 shots 5 miles, do a shot run a mile Sun- Long run somewhere between 18-20 |

Master 1402 Cumming, Georgia | Subject: RE: Bone Island Tri - Full Iron Course : Official Thread Woo wee, 100.50 mile ride then a 4.25 mile run. Legs were feeling good until mile 85 then my legs just gave out on me. I would have liked to finish strong but there's still plenty of time. I have a sleeveless and full wetsuit and can't decide which one I want to go with. I prefer the sleeveless but dang those MOW look nasty. Since I'm driving down I'll probably bring both and decide once I see what the water temps are. |
