Got in an hour on my new bike this morning. As I was riding in 37 degrees and thinking about how cold I was I remembered Jonathan saying something about 40 below, I quickly warmed up and appreciated the 37 degrees and sunshine.

What is TAN?

ABANDON HOPE, ALL YE WHO ENTER!

It's a thread in Cup of Joe. TAN stands for Thread About Nothing, which is exactly what it is. Has slightly different and some additional rules with respect to BT.

Oh Lord help you. It looks like a great way to lose a few hours a day.

Not to mention brain cells ... it's actually a pretty extraordinary group in there. Sometimes I like it more or less depending on who the current predominant posters are, but I dearly love many of the individuals and have been a part of TAN since the beginning.

I skim through there every now and again and it always seems that most everyone is quite nice.

You would be the first person in the history of BT to say that. Personally, I think it's true, but of course I'm biased. Marmadaddy describes us as "very odd, but mostly harmless."

W-wait, seriously? She left a couple carrots, a Dos Equis and I dunno, some weird Aussie packaged food? By "He" does she mean the most interesting man in the world? Actually, that spread might attract ME.

That's not weird Aussie packaged food! That's Turkish Delight and Cherry Ripe!

So Pop Tarts they ain't, but they're GOOD. Yumness. I bet they'd be great IM nutrition; go down real easy and pretty much 100% sugar. As long as the Turkish Delight isn't too firm.

Wow. That sounds ... errr ... delightful.

I am a stalker in TAN and find the people friendly and funny. I'm also a stalker in staying sober because the people are so supportive and encouraging.

and to think I asked for an active group......

My old group posted about once per day and so I had email notifications setup for every post. Now that I have a slightly more active group I need to turn those off as I woke up to 4,555,643,567,432,567,432 emails this morning.

So how do I turn off email notifications for this particular thread?

Umm settings -> forum settings.

I've read a few pages from probably about 4 of the TANs and it seems awesome but it kind of seems like inside joke central.  Like I would have had to have joined by TAN #2 or something.

Focus is overrated... Especially when there is training and chores to be done.

I just wanted to pop in and say welcome to all the new Manatees (you know, before we get to page 20 in this thread.

I ran the most miles in a week ...ever last week, so between that, family stuff and the holidays I've been a little swamped.

So... how many miles did you run?  Are you really going to say that without sharing the details?

Well, that's what we have training logs for. I keep you on your toes by making you count on your own.

Nah ... since your new I'll do it for you this time. 84 miles.

I'll tack on a newbie question to that...I just looked at my own training log for first time last night. How do I see anyone else's? Type in user name or ...?And 84??? Oh my! I don't know if I even drive that far most weeks
I know that I don't. I live my life in one square mile and work four blocks from home.

That's amazing, Salty. Excellent work.

Heading out for my run, finally. I was hoping it would hit 30 today, but that ain't gonna happen. So I need to get out before the wind picks up and the temperature starts falling.

Even though there was a false alarm a month or so ago, my Aunt Flo decided to make a real visit for Christmas. Lovely. So, I went from premenopausal to menopausal (no visit for 6 months) to PMS. Yikes. No wonder I can't sleep.

Such super respect. I really can't fathom folks who run OUTSIDE in significantly sub-freezing temperatures.

And much sympathy on the Aunt Flo. I really can't fathom that roller coaster either, but you do have my sympathy.

Hi, and Merry Christmas everyone. I'm having difficulty with my home Internet provider at the moment. So not really up to speed so to speak and am using the iPad until I get sorted. I done an hour on trainer road today. I think the course was Geiger. Didn't do too bad, so I think I may need to up my FTP. Might wait until after my next ride, as its a 1.5 hr ride with sweet spot work, and its on Boxing Day when I'm likely to have a hangover. Can't be as bad as tomorrow, where I got my 2nd 30 min run planned . As for dog love. Mine is for my 3 year old St Bernard called Lucy. That is when she's not slobbering over me, or trying to kill me by sleeping at the bottom of the stairs. I will get some pics up as soon as I get proper Internet. Minus 40 F, that's cold. I remember when in the Army e were based at Fort Lewis, Washington state, and part of the exercise we were on was 3 nights sleeping out in the open up on Yakama plains in November, brrrrrr, minus 50 deg Celsius, that was frigging cold. And the British army, in their infinite wisdom decided to send us out with no cold weather gear . Well, all the best, will check in, but, as you can imagine we will be a bit busy over the next few days.
