Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok listen up I'm gonna help you. You tell your parents you have an important announcement and you'd like them to turn off the tv and listen closely. When you have their attention you say mom, dad, I love you and this really hard for me. I don't want to hurt you, but I need your support. Now you really have their attention. So you say mom, dad you've heard about some people saying they feel like a woman trapped in a mans body? And you know those people sometimes have gender changing operations? Well mom, dad, I want to (pregnant pause) do an Ironman Triathlon. Trust me your parents are gonna be so happy. They may even buy that new tri bike for you. Seriously, living with your rents is no shame as long as you have a plan with a time line for getting out, unlike the POTUS and Iraq. See where I'm going with this? You can't complain about him if you can't walk the walk... yeah I know apples and snails. Nothing in life is certain so do your IM, get it out of your system then sit back and rethink your priorities. They appear to be a bit askew. Part of growing up is learning to do what your own sense of balance tells you is the right(not easy) thing to do and not being swayed by what other folks say or think. On the other hand if a hundred people tell you that you have a buger hanging from your nose, you may want to look in the mirror. Sacrafice is what sweetens accomplishment. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Do you mind if I tell my parents for you? They live in Chicago too, and have extra bedrooms in their house, possibly rent free. My Stepmother is a raving, lunatic b-tch, but she won't give a rat's @ss about your Ironman and she does cook well! Edited by Z-dog 2007-09-23 3:37 AM |

I read a post of his in another thread (someone was asking whether or not she should do a marathon) that said if he's not crying uncontrollably in a race, then it's not worth it to him. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() To paraphrase what someone said earlier: When does Candid Camera jump out and say all of this is not real? This is too much. Not that my life is totally stressful or all-important, but come on, telling your parents you want to do an IM? Is this what keeps you up at night worrying? This thread is just too incredible to believe. Edited by Karl Hungus 2007-09-23 7:38 AM |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This reminds me of when I was in the eigth grade. I quit playing the trumpet, because it hurt my braces, and I didn't tell them for months, until we were ready to leave for a concert, where they would undoubtably not see me in the trumpet section. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I told them. They were non to please. They asked me when it was. I told them 8/31/2008 and they are like oh ok that is different. They did say maybe I should get a tri bike though. They are also thinking about going along and see the race. I expressed interest in 100 mile runs so I think anything less than that they are happy about. No I do not like the abuse. I like mental break downs because I am pushing myself and my muscles are eating themselves because I am so tired. I do not mental break downs because of COJ. IMKY here I come. |

Very nice! =) Now aren't you so happy you did that and are on the up and up with your family? =) Hey Chi, make your parents, family, and friends proud and really commit yourself to this thing, okay? You and everyone involved is going to enjoy this experience so much more if you're fully prepared for it. Let me know when you plan to kick off your IM training, and I'll be sure to stay on top of your logs like white on rice. Okay? |
