Thanks for the encouraging words. It really was an awesome day and you were all out there with me! My super secret goal was to beat 7 so I got pretty dang close to that. I started having IT pain about half way in to the run so I started walking every aid station which helped, but it started up again just before the next aid station. If it hadn't been for that I mighta done it. But I was enjoying myself most of the day and stayed positive till I crossed the finish. The finish was VERY emotional. I DID IT!!!!

Oh, and I was passing BIG time on the hills!

11:30pm...DH not home yet and eggs filled. Figured I'd spend a few minutes getting started on my clip-in anxiety therapy, so got on bike with new pedals/shoes. Clip in, clip out. Clip in, clip out. This is going to be a long process. Yell

Awesome to see!!!! You stayed after it the entire time, nothing got you down and you rocked your race. Good to see all that training pay off, especially the hills.

StaceyK - 2013-03-30 10:01 PM So after 3 weeks of work being insane it should finally get back to normal next week so I will be able to get back into training. Know have 8weeks until the 12km race that I have entered and 21 weeks until the HM that I want to do. I am ok with running/walking the 12km but I really want to be able to run the majority of the HM. Can anyone suggest a good training plan? I have looked at the Jeff Galloway one (I am part way through one of his books) and I just don't really like the plan, I don't know why I just don't. I have checked out a few plans on the web but I have noticed that most of them have the longest long run as 12 miles. Why is that when the HM is 13? My thinking is that surely the longest run of your training plan should be at least equal to the race distance so that you know that you can finish it (this is especially my thinking when I have read in a couple of places that you normally hit "the wall" at the distance of your longest run). I would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm doing one of Hal Higdon's plans for my HM next week.  It also doesn't get up to the full 13.1 distance.  I think that the main goal of these plans is to slowly build running base to avoid injury, and to get people enough running to be able to finish the race.  I am sure that these plans are enough to finish the race.

My plan has worked in building my running ability.  I am still a little concerned about making the distance, but I do know I will run faster and further during the actual race.  This plan works for the time that I had to prepare.  I think that if I had another couple weeks that I'd take my weekly runs to six miles, and go up to 12 or 13 for my long run.  I think for a HM that training long runs can be the full distance.  I think it's only for Marys that you don't want to run the whole distance.  From what I remember reading for Marys, no extra fitness is gained, and it only increases the risk of injury.

Fun! I love the color of the running shoes. I did some online shoes shopping last night. My bunions are quickly becoming a limiter for me. I am going to try to stretch the shoes I have now while I look for something better. I am also thinking of cutting out a space for my bunions. Yes. They are that bad. They are genetic. My dad had them, and my two youngest have them, too.

I ran on the dirt roads yesterday which were a little muddy in spots, so there was a bit of slipping and sliding. At one point I just took off my shoes and ran in my socks for about half a mile. My bunions felt so much better, but they are still a little achey this morning. /rant about disformed feet

My mom had 'em bad enough to finally warrant surgery on both feet a couple years ago.  Mine are minor at this point.  You may want to see a podiatrist--it's not the bunions that are genetic, but the tendency for the big toe to deviate laterally--that makes the end of the bone push out medially, which rubs and creates the bunion.  Sometimes they can give you a spacer for between your big and second toe to decrease the deviation.  It won't make them better, but can help stop them from getting worse...

Been there, done that about 8 years ago. I have pins in both feet. It was done before I took up running, oddly enough. I spent nearly 15 years working in kitchens, on my feet 10-12 hours a day. It was a one day thing, back home that afternoon. I had to keep off the feet for a while, but I'm glad I did it.

Did I say that? I really love my neon yellow Kinvaras.  I like to go out of my way to compliment people wearing colorful shoes in everyday life.  As for the ladies... I'll find and marry one someday, but I don't 'follow a nice pair of shorts' during races, as it were.  That's not the way I do things.
