WOW - so many things going on in Manatee-Land!

Sorry I've been entirely too busy to check in, but apparently the people at work actually want me to do stuff before I leave.  The nerve!!!  Actually, I've been training my replacement, which has been mentally exhausting because I'm trying to make sure she knows everything, but I keep remembering some of the little day-to-day stuff that I do and she needs to know about.

Oh well... just ooooooone more day...

So 'cited for your new adventure! I guess I won't see you in Chi-land when DS2 goes to basic but I do get to parts of Tejas on occasion...

Just to get the song back into everyone's heads,

You're on... "The Final Countdown"!

Exciting! Did you find a place already or waiting a bit? James isn't quite big enough to live in

Well, looks like my favorite part of tri is evaporating for a bit - racing!

With the move and a trip south with the kids beforehand, I've had to pull out of two races I was looking forward to (did them last year and have a bunch of friends at them) and also Timberman (same category, but haven't registered yet) - not to mention canceling the vacation we had planned around one of the races during the third week of July.

UGH UGH UGH.

Well, I guess I'll just have to register for the HIM in Austin in October and find one more to do down south this year (trying to get 3 in - not that I care so much about rankings, but it just feels like a totally blown season without getting at least 3 in).

OK, vent over.  This is all good, but I'm going to miss these races - I love racing in the North Atlantic and Winnepesauke!

Still and all, getting psyched for the move, just letting myself be childish about missing my races.    Someone call the Waaaaaaambulance!

Carry on!

Matt

Waaaaa-ooooooh, Waaaa-ooooooh...you called?

Booooo! on the pull-outs. Being childish is okay for a couple of... days? We all have things we look forward to and a pout is deserved sometimes. Buuut, you'll get totally caught up in everything else and find other races you look forward to doing soon enough

btw...my son was reading your post over my shoulder and cracked up at the waaaaaabulance. He hears that word a lot

Hey all, I'm back from Santa Rosa. The race went well. I'm having a crazystoopidbusy week.

Did I tell ya'll about Coach Scott? I re-met him at the gym a few weeks ago but I'd met him before at tri related venues. He calls himself the Ironman Pastor. He is starting a coaching group, which would be more economical than one on one coaching. Here is the site where he describes the group. I had thought about doing Socorro but not Patriot but I'd consider doing both if I join the group. I've heard good things about him from multiple sources, and I'd like to see how I do when coached. The price is a bit high for us, but doable, especially since it includes two race entries. He's aware of the IT Band issue so I'm sure he'd build that in to my plan (I told him I plan to try to run a short "freedom" run on Friday). What do you all think?

Do you think that you'll be able to attend most of the coached workouts?  If so, it's not a bad price at all!  It should like you did your homework and people like working with him...

Tell me about your freedom run.

My freedom run is just a very short (mile tops) attempt to get back to the joy that is running. The leg is feeling good with few pangs of pain so I'm going to attempt a super easy, flat, slow run.

I think I could make most of the workouts. My schedule is USUALLY pretty flexible so I could get to early or late sessions unless I'm out of town or have an early/late appointment in Santa Fe.  I emailed him and asked about easing back in to running and doing some strength training to minimise the ITBS and he said "I can assist you with sport specific strength training. I cover some of thath with everyone, but would be open to focus with you on your needs. I will also be dealing with recovery & recovery tools. I think you would benefit from that also. No problem on the ramp back up on running, every thing we do in training & racing has a purpose."

Chris and Janyne made some thoughtful points. This may also be good timing to get someone else's help as you try to work through the ITBS issue as you train . Only you know you, but having him to give you other exercises and advice might be useful right now...plus the focus on the S/B with him even if you don't hit the running very hard.

Curious to see what you decide

Thanks all!  Yep, the whole "having a job" thing is underrated - and I'm thankful for this one, for sure (even if Monica is beating us there!  LAST DAY for you - suhweeeet!!!).

I realized last night that I was already looking at my next couple workouts and thinking about how they'd fit in with a plan for the Austin HIM in October.  Sometimes I just have to laugh (at myself).

Congrats to our newest Navy mom!  You must be (justifiably) proud that your son picked the right branch.    GO NAVY!  I can only imagine the whorl of feelings you must have experienced - super exciting (and I'm sure tinged with parental concern) to have a family member that chooses to serve.  Congrats and thanks, both.

OK, time to neaten the house again…  It's harder work keeping a house with 5 people, 2 dogs and countless other smaller creatures neat and clean at all times "just in case" there's a showing than it is to train up for a HIM!

Hope you all (at least our US based pod-peeps) have a great 4th!!

Matt

Sup Manatees!?!?!

It's official, my time is validated by USATF, my entry is paid by my club and I am registered for the 10,000 M at USATF Club Nationals next Friday at 7:15 PM!

I know some of you are friends with me on Facebook and I shared how on the fence I was about competing after only 4 weeks of preparation post surgery but I figured I earned the spot and may as well go out and do the best that I can do, although a DFL is likely I am just happy to have the opportunity to show up!

What is everyone doing for the 4th?

Yay for last days!!  They can be kind of frazzling though, especially when moving the next day!  Don't worry - your replacement will figure out whatever it is that you forget to tell her.  She's probably feeling pretty fire-hosed so some of it may not stick anyway.  Just a few more hours now..  Are you counting the minutes?!

Woohoo, Salty!  Way to fight for it!  Hoping for the best for you!

I'm headed to Cincinnati for a family reunion, leaving DH here to deal with the dogs.  One barks at the fireworks and runs around like a maniac.  Not sad to be missing that!  While I'm in the area, I'm hoping to meet up with Foxy and some of his running friends in Dayton on Tuesday.

What're you up to besides training your surgically repaired tail off?

Thanks Yeah, I dunno. I  agree that we are all pretty much competing against ourselves but I can't help but think of any article I have read about nearly any competitive athlete stating that they show up to win. Winning has never been all that important to me though, otherwise I would be doing a local 5K not a national championship haha.

Tom, congrats on the new job!  Monica I hope you make it through your last day!  Salty, awesome that you are racing.  You always get so much out of races, even if you are DFL.  I love how you learn something each time; I have really tried to take that through my IM training.  Every long ride especially, I tried (haha I just typed tired instead of tried) to have a takeaway.  TJ, I know there must be mixed emotions, but congrats to you and your son.

I just ran my last long run this morning.  It was really tough to get through.  I had to keep telling myself that hurting now will make it easier to deal with the hurt on race day!  Last long ride on Saturday.  I am looking forward to shedding some of this fatigue!

I hope you all have an amazing Fourth spent with family and friends doing whatever brings you joy!
