LOL after my ride on Sunday I played a game of touch football 3 adults and a bunch of kids.  I of course have to cover the 20 something year old.

I can barely walk today on Tuesday, not from the ride but from 30-45 mins of touch football....

Looks like everyone had a great weekend.  Nice job on the race Roni (I really wanted to put an "A" before Roni).  Good job to the virtual races too!

I use Body Glide for running too.  Never really had need for it on the bike, but I'm sure that will change as distances increase.

I'm looking forward to a short week

With all the talk about swimming (thanks Doug!) I feel like I better high tail it to the pool to get started.  It takes me twice as long as most of you to do the same distance!

Make it a good day!
Suzy

wow Suzy you weren't kidding about you swim times. I was looking at the recorded times in Google docs and saw it took you over 8 hours to do the 400yds.

Ok team Tri-athletes. we need to post some good times. Rueb you should be able to jump in the pool and almost touch the other end so your swim time should be -2 minutes right   Roni with your abilities and the amount you run your our "Flash" on the pavement. Kim great run time you set for us to beat... Now go do it in the pool and on the bike. Way to go Holly... completed all stages already with great times.

Tracy,

Just looked at the Savageman Int'l bike course, rode a bunch of those same roads this weekend and didn't realize it.

That Blackhawk school road was a fun one, windy, lots of gravel down, then super steep up hill with no momentum.

We did a bunch on that New Germany road that is on that course also.  Didn't do the Frank Brenneman road off New Germany but that looked super steep and at 30ish miles in glad we wern't doing that road.

You've got some skillz girl, no matter what Steve says about you...

What a wonderful weekend.  Glad everyone returned healthly and safe.  Are you all sober yet?

Trevor, I tried the same thing one time with my Garmin (pacing faster than PR) and failed miserably.  And I must be fatter and slower (27:24 5k)
And you all train your geese to what...stay down here and sh*t all over our golf courses?

Doug, that time is crazy - totally unfair.  Genetics are a bi*ch.

John, thanks for the laughs.  I would have left the bike and started walking - and maybe never returned to get the bike!

Andy, great job on your swim.  It's amazing what the human body can adapt to so quickly.

Chris, I had no idea we had a golf pro around here.  I considered this.  A high school teammate is one (we were state champs together).  I wasn't interested in the schedule.

Rob, I push too hard and I may hit my head on the other end of the pool.  It's about like pulling a Semi thru a McDonald's drive thru. Wink

Suzy, you may want to check you bike and swim times in the spreadsheets.  You say you're slow, but a 8 hour swim and 31 hour ride - I don't think so.

On a personal note - I have given up all allergy meds.  My throat is a little scratchy, my voice is rough, and my nose a little stuffy, but I can function again.
And my Memorial Day injury - a sore knee from Wiffle Ball.  Not playing - just hitting.

Good to be back with my BT brothers (and sisters).

So is everyone recovered from the weekend or still nursing the hangover???  Mine is getting better as the day goes on Tongue out

Ronnie - Awesome job on the race this weekend, girl you rock!!!!!!

John - I choked on my lunch laughing at your bike mishaps.....It's nice to see you kept such a good attitude about it!

Rob - Nice run on Monday!

Got a question - One thing that I have not worked on, or really even paid attention to before, is having my bike shoes already clipped in and putting them on while on the bike.  I tried that this weekend and it did not work out so well.  Is there a trick to this?

John, I'm looking forward to the pics.  I'm a big wiffle ball fan.  I have to honest though, this was actually junk ball.  The bats ROCK!  Did you play actual wiffle ball rules?  Or baseball rules with a wiffle ball (plus throwing at the runner of course)?

Yesterday was one of my son's friend/teammate's 10th birthday and it was a "wiffle" ball party.  20 kids played for two hours.  They played in a school gym and the principal got the scoreboard controller out so we kept score and everything for them.  It was a blast.

We, the fathers, were all discussing how many hours did we spend playing wiffle ball, hitting home-runs over the swing set, worn out back yards, covered in mosquito bites,...good times!

That sounds like a blast.  We play wiffle ball rules with a few modifications.

Hangover wasnt too bad.

Obviously, I'm the last person to give advice on getting on your bike w/ shoes already clipped in or even just getting on your bike for that matter.  I have heard though that a few races down here don't allow shoes clipped in.

I thought about you and Andy yesterday...I noticed the long course at Redman opened back up with 50 more slots.  Supposed to be an awesome race.  Thought we might have a mini SWBKRUN MG get together.  Went and asked the wife if going to OKC a week or two before number three is supposed to arrive would be a problem.  She must have had something else on her mind because she just glared at me and walked away. I'll ask her again tonight and let you know what she says. Sealed

Hey Reuben--thanks.  I was hoping NOT to have to go back to that worksheet, but I updated everything.  I sort of feel like my swimming is cheating; OWS in a wetsuit is so much faster than pool swimming, at least for me.

No hangover for me to nurse.  I am too much of a lightweight. 1 1/2 glass of wine and I am nearly dancing on the table. Give me two and all hell breaks loose.

Hi All,

I am finally back to work today after about a week and a half off.  It was hard to get up this morning and come into the office!!  I had a great day yesterday.  I ran the local 5k and had a new PR.  For those of you who are smoking fast, this will seem incredibly slow, but for me, it is almost 1:30 faster than my previous PR.  I did 32:31.  Like I said, not fast for most people, but I was happy!!  Hope everyone is training hard!

Great Run Karen...Every one is different in this group for sure!! We have some fasty's for sure(umm present company excluded)

Took today off and volunterred at my 3 year olds preschool. Was alot of fun hanging out with the kids. Did the Dad thing and took her McD's for lunch. Did some yardwork with her after. Wife was out with the other one alot of the day, so was fun to hang out midweek just the 2 of us. So zippo on the training today, but enjoyed the day. Back at it tomorrow. Which is also back at work, which means I'll be keeping all of you in check again!!
Have a good night all!

Q: What do you call an aspiring triathlete who's told not to swim or run for 2 weeks?

A: A depressed cyclist.

Finally got into the foot specialist/surgeon about lower calf pain.  Walked out with both feet taped to the hilt and orders to keep off them as much as possible, load up on ibuprofen and ice them until orthotics get done (appx 2 weeks) Can't even swim because the water will compromise the bandages.  Turns out I was running on collapsing arches and did quite a number on the tendons that tie into my arches. I think  it was Tracy who gave me almost that exact treatment advice (ice, ibruprfen) and asked abut getting orthotics - good call Tracy!

Anywhoo.... here's the blessing in this. Some of you may recall one of my very early posts about being horrible at running and hating it. Well, after getting the news today, I've been truly sad about not being able to run. Talk about a paradigm shift!  My sister said "so are you  going to try a different sport and let triathlon go?"  I looked at her and said "NOT an option".   Despite the pain, this is the best I've ever felt in my life!  Doc swears that if I let these heal up and start again with the right foot support, I should be fine. (fingers crosed)

One more question:  Does poor Team 4 have to keep me? My run time was from a run/walk during the early injury and now there's now way I can run.  Can I be cut due to injury and just play cheerleader?

Shannon, sorry to hear about the injury and the layoff!  At least they found out what was wrong.  Now you can heal properly and be ready to train 100% in 2 weeks!

I need some advice, do guys generally wear their tri-top under their wetsuit even when both the water temp and the out side temp is going to be around the 50's?  My first race is this Sunday and the water temp is going to be 55F and outside temp is going to be from 55-65f during the race.  I'm not cold friendly and biking in a wet tri top in cold weather doesn't seem like fun..

Since doing out door bricks are kind of hard for me, i did my first indoor run/bike brick in a long time (at least one that's immediately after the other).  I biked pretty hard on the trainer and then ran at my normal pace.  I felt great the first 2.8 miles and then my quads started to feel a little tight (not too strange for me) and then i felt this weird burning sensation in my rt quad (this is a strange for me).  I finished the run but now it's a little tight, sore and swollen and my rt knee won't stop clicking (the sound is similar to when you crack your knuckles).  I'm not sure if i pulled something.  I'm going to take it pretty easy until the race Sunday and maybe only do a few swims and a light jog at the end of the week but my race times may have to be my times for team #1.

Karen--nice job!  You shaved off nearly :30 per mile and that is huge, especially in a 5K.  Well done.

Shannon-I'm glad you were able to get diagnosed, but I am wondering the doctor perscribed PT.  Custom orthotics are great, but often times there is are some muscle weaknesses or imbalances that should be attacked as well.  Just a thought.    As a team #4 member, I am happy to have you as a cheerleader or maybe we could just use your swim/bike time and Tony could do some fancy stuff?!? Tony?

Swim question for you all, how do you split your time between the OW and the pool during the season? my new tri coach suggested 70/30 pool to OW and we negotiated to 50/50.  His belief is endurance is built in the pool and technique is perfected in the OW.  What do you think?

Normally yes you would just wear the tri-top under the wetsuit but tbh, no matter what people say I don't have much trouble getting on my tri-top after swimming, I just make sure it is unzipped and it slips right on.  Had to do that in my first tri of the year because the top was so big it was dragging me down so had to swim without it then put it on in transition.

I don't think most have the option to do 50/50, I would love to have that much access to OWS.  I would imagine most people are like 95/5 even if that much pool/OWS.  Though I do agree with your coach that the pool gives you more time to work technique and develop speed, OWS is where you actually get to use what you worked on in the pool.

We'll figure something out for Shannon, remember it is an average anyways, and the prize for winning is the jeers from your fellow competitors...Laughing

Oh and Team 1 sorry been so busy haven't had a chance to get in my run/bike yet for the challenge, will be doing it this Thursday, weather here is supposed to clear up sometime soon I hope.
