Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Plainsman AU - 2011-10-30 9:44 AM I know most people are rolling in Wed and Thurs... Anyone coming on Tuesday? I will be getting down mid to late afternoon on Tuesday. Would be up for grabbing dinner with someone. I'll probably be in late Tues. Dunno exactly what time but my guess is about 10:00 PM. I'll be back, but will want to a different one,,not that i wouln't do this one again,,just like the marathons i have run,,gotta do a different one. Maybe one in the spring.= like St George or the one in Texas. The big question.... Who is signing up for next year? If so Friday or will you wait until Sunday? Next year will be a break for me to. Will likely do a couple of 1/2IM and thinking of a possible fall marathon. Then I'm thinking St Georges in 2013 |

Master 1436 Wilmington | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Well if everything goes well at IMFL I might do IM St Goerge next year since I can keep my fitness and get stronger. Just went to Wal-mart and got a wind breaker jack for $6 and $0.94 cotten gloves. I will be happy to through it away and not worry about cost. |

Whether I survive this first one or not, I'd have to skip next year due yet another deployment. In my head I like to think that I'll do 2013, but I am looking forward to a year or two without thinking about an IM race. Probably stick to Sprint/Oly for a year or two. Of course this plan can completely go out the window depending on what I think after the race. (did I finish, did I not, could I do better with just a bit more training, was I close to some arbitrary goal????) |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread St George? That's just crazy talk. Although one of the most beautiful courses out there I just don't think I could handle the swim. Way too cold for me. Heck, I'm debating AZ due to the reservoir temps. Not sure I could handle the altitude either. Coming from sea level I'd need to get there a week early just to get acclimated. Go for it - I just can't handle that cold. Duane |

Duane Being local to AZ I'll just say the weather is perfect around the race, our temps are pretty similar to PCB right now, maybe a few degrees warmer, but without the humidity it feels cooler that the temps listed. Come on out, we'd love to have visitors! |

Veteran 184 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Just thought I'd toss this up for folks flying in... i was rechecking rental rates in an effort to save a few more bucks at the last minute and stumbled upon a sweet code for Budget. If you need a car during the trip, try this in the BCD code area when renting online from Budget and enjoy-hopefully it still works. BCD D454301 - it puts an SUV / premium car/ almost everything at $149 (plus taxes) for my trip- wed- monday, so it might save you some $ if you need it. (about $100 off my previous rental) No, I'm not getting commission, I don't work for Budget, and hopefully this isn't considered spam- just sharing a deal. The extra money can go towards race wheels! |

If so Friday or will you wait until Sunday? My wife says next year is "HER" year. This year it's been all about me and she has been extremely supportive and understanding. As my taper started I was able to eat supper with her and Luke (our 10yr. old son) and as she was saying the blessing she expressed thanks that I was able to eat with them. She said normally her and Luke pray that I have a good workout and return home safely. I was glad but it kind of made me sad too. I'll probably do a half and and maybe a sprint or two. |

Expert 1322 Savannah | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Finally got her all cleaned up and ready to go. Figuring how to mount the Pedro's Blowout bag behind the saddle was a little tricky but I really think it turned out well. Test rode today to make sure the bag wouldn't move around....and it didn't! |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Sweet looking bunch of bikes! I struggle with under seat bag as well as my saddle is very far forward so both the seat post strap and other two are not long enough. I have had a race where I wore a hole in my shorts with rubbing of seat post strap.

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We had a snow storm Nor'easter last night/this morning. Heavy snow, gusts up to 50mph, lots of big trees and branches down, we kept hearing loud cracks of tree breaking during the nice the heavy snow and wind was a bad combination...lost power, cable, phone, house was cold...it sucked! We lost the top to almost all our oaks in back yard more this storm compared to hurricane last month. Everything is back. |

Champion 7704 Williamston, Michigan | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Worst My bike computer flew off my bike at some point. I rode around looking for it but its gone. I headed home so I could runto Target to get a new one as my LBS is closed sundays and I needed to pack the bike today. Heading home I get a flat. I am hoping al lthe bad bike karma is out of my system. New computer is installed but its a POS and I am hoping to buy a new one at the race and have it installed there. Bike is packed. Had a rotten week last week. Details in my blog. Don't really want to rehash it here but lets just say be thankful if your loved ones are healthy and safe and don't get your panties in a knot over a race cause there are LOTS more important things in life to be upset and stressed over. Yeah I'm kind of not that excited anymore |

Expert 977 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread Quick question. What do they give you at the finish? In my prior HIM's they gave out a hat. Do you get one in FL? If not I'll buy one but I don't need 2 of them. My bike computer stopped working on our ride Saturday. Not sure if it go too wet or what. Ugh. I have my Garmin but then it won't have enough battery for the ride and the run. Oh well, we'll see if it dries out by Saturday (already packed in the backseat of the car). enjoy, Duane |

If you are using a 310XT it will last the better part of the day. I use one and have never had it die during IM. That included the swim. Just make sure the backlight is off. |
