Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida: BT meet up plans IMFL meet ups and fun things we can do: Last year since I was not racing I put together some casual get togethers for BTers to stop by if they wanted. We went to this great deli place order your own food, find a table and hang out. We had time each day we met near swim to visit, swim or whatever. If you guys want I can do that this year as well. In past someone has hosted a BT early dinner day before the race, often it is folks that aren't racing organizing that. I can't commit to something like that before race but if someone else offers go for it. Here is what I'm thinking.... Swims..meet at 7:30 or 8 (need to pick a specific time) each morning Wed-Friday at Boardwalk Beach hotel on the deck not on the sand..come before or after your swim or come just to meet folks Wed and Thursday pick different places we could meet for lunch...no reservations needed type places..come with family, friends or by yourself. Thursday athlete dinner...maybe a couple folks could get there early and save tables for others...it's fun to sit together. It's my birthday and my family is flying that evening so I can't help with that. Post IM, do we want to plan to meet someplace Sunday? Mellow Mushroom for some pizza perhaps? Other thing that is helpful is to make a spreadsheet of names, screen names, cell numbers, when you will be there & anything else you'd like to share...parent/friend/spouse's cell is good for those who may want to call during race with an update...and exchange it only with folks that participate. I'm willing to do that, if you want send me a email to kkbkesl at comcast dot net put IMFL in subject. Those that send me contact info I will send you the list closer to race. |

Does anyone know how far from transition? it looks like i must drive there, how hectic is the parking and where could i park come race day You can part at Walmart and take a shuttle bus or walk but check with the Athlete's Guide once it's posted. You could check the '09 Athlete's Guide to learn what they did last year. Do not park next to the Golf course on the street as they towed folks all day. Some folks got towed more than once on race day. |

Veteran 158 Grapevine, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread We're arriving sometime mid-afternoon on Wednesday. Planning to do registration on Wednesday and then take a swim on the swim course (or swim whatever buoys are out there) on Thurs am. I'm battling a cold right now. Went to the dr. and he just said it's a virus. I'm feeling better this evening, but I did miss today's 2.5 hour ride. Hoping I can pull it together for a big training weekend involving a 100 mile ride on Sat and 3 hour run on Sunday. |

Over a week off from running and off of the bike until at least next week. |

Veteran 260 Hong Kong | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I wish I could do the same! Great idea! You'll be able to get a pretty good idea about the race and enjoy it from a different perspective. I'll be running NYC Marathon, so I will have to designate someone for online registration. I'm pretty concerned and nervous about not being able to get a spot for next year, that would be a real BUMMER! Everything I've been doing in the last year and a half has been with the idea of doing 2011 IMFL. Good luck Plainsman AU - 2010-10-14 9:27 PM I'll be heading down to VOLUNTEER...to sign up for next years race. I would love to get up with you racers and enjoy some of the pre race festivities. If you do not think they will get to you in time because of where you live , please see if someone else will be willing to receive your shirt for you." Jay...if the shirts are not going to be shipped until the 29th, i might need to make arrangements with somebody to get shirts shipped. We will be leaving Austin on Tuesday 11/2, and don't want to miss the delivery. Guess you could ship ALL the shirts to Kathy's condo... :-) I am local so you can also ship to my house. I'll be commuting back and forth from my house so no matter what day they come in I will be around... Thanks lots, Jen. I will take you up on your offer. Looks like I will be buying some beers...see you at the finish line, too. Jay, if you please, sir, ship my order to Jen. |

Extreme Veteran 633 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread As I mentioned in the Ironman talk forum... I've been out from running for 4 weeks due to a stress fracture. My longest successful run was 12 miles before it happened. Earlier this week I ran 1 1/2, 3, and last night I ran 4 1/2 miles. I had absolutely no pain from it, and my legs felt great (probably because I was jogging at a slow - for me - 11 min/mile pace). I did a 9 min run, 1 min walk for the 4 1/2 miles just in case, to keep it safe. So, I'm wondering, what do you all think about running a long run this weekend, I might try 8ish miles tomorrow. Then the weekend after next, trying 14-15 miles on the weekend of the 23rd (at the 11 min/mile, 9 min run/jog, 1 min walk plan). Is it worth it, or am I wasting my time this close to the race? I doubt I'm going to injure my foot again. I can walk barefoot with no pain, jump and land on my left foot without pain, do left foot calf raises without pain, run in shoes without pain... so I'm pretty confident I can run now - albeit slower than usual. |

I would be careful, and pay a lot of attention to how it feels. The first sign of pain, stop. IMO, I'd rather go into a race a little undertrained and healthy, than injured. |

Expert 1143 Wellington, Florida | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread In PCB now for the White Sands Tri tomorrow, weather is great, a bit cool in the mornings (high 40's) but warms quickly and is pushing upper70/80 by eairly PM. Weater is a bit chilly at first but you get use to it within 30-45sec. Race tomorrow will be wetsuit by a degree or two. Wind picks up as day goes on, very still in the morning, but a good 10-15mph by afternoon. Good luck to everyone. FM "The" Cube |

Expert 1148 Santa Fe, New Mexico | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread It's getting close enough to be planning race week. I plan to swim on Wed, Thurs, and Fri mornings. Just a short dip to help me get accustomed to swimming in the ocean. In '08 there were a group of us met each morning at 7:00 (I think). It was fun and on the same schedule as race day. Any one up for a swim each morning? |

Any one up for a swim each morning? I'd be up to 7 am swimming too... My coach recommended that I did that to get used to the water the way it will be on race day. That being said, I will also be in the air on Wednesday morning. Biked 180 km today. fell at the turn around, but luckily both my bike and I seem to be fine if a little banged up. I had got my last tune up this past week, but I think I'm going to get my bike guy to have another looke at it just to be sure. Oh and I will probably be finishing around 9 pm (if the wind is nice perhaps a little earlier), but if it is windy than probably a little later. My bike today took 7:30 but it was pretty windy and where I live isn't flat. Edited by Daffodil 2010-10-15 5:31 PM |
