ecpasos -

I would do this Josh.  Keep me posted on it if you register next year.  It looks like quite the challenge.

Hey listen now don't tease me here   I am quite serious about this thing, and there are only 45 slots per year, so be sure before you say yes.  How far away do you live from there?

Ha Ha.  Let me think about it then.  I really need to see how I do as I get to the IM swim distance.  Right now, I'm struggling through my feet cramping on just a 2500 yd swim.  That's quite far from a 10K swim!   BUT if I do decide to do it, this race is in my 'hood.  I work not far from the shore so it would be very cool to swim out in the waters that I see every day.

GmrGirl - 2011-03-14 1:40 PM Steph - Thanks for the recipe
Harvest Grains Salad Two grilled chicken breasts 5 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1 1/4 cups of blended grains such as couscous and quinoa 1 small red bell pepper, diced 1 small yellow or orange bell pepper, diced 1 small apple, diced 1 cup cherry or plum tomatoes, cut in half 1/4 cup black currants 1/4 cup chopped walnuts and/or almonds 1 cup chopped fresh parsley 1 cup chopped fresh spinach 2 Tbsp lime juice 1/4 cup blueberries 1/4 cup of raw cacao nibs Sea salt Black pepper Bring 1 1/3 cups of water to a boil and add 1 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil. Mix in 1 1/4 cups of blended grains and bring back to a boil; reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and transfer to a large serving bowl, sprinkling in more olive oil. Add the fruits and vegetables. Pour in lime juice and the remaining olive oil. Toss. Top with grilled chicken breasts. Add blueberries and cacao nibs. Season with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve immediately or chilled the next day. Yields about five servings. Nutritional info per serving: 441calories, 25 g fat (6 g saturated), 28 g carbs, 26 g protein I'm trying to find a good web site, but I usually just find them in lots of places and try them... once I learn a recipe, I usually don't need to look at it again. This one came from active.com.

nice!  Thanks,

I'm starting to get my schedule in shape again, since early this month when wife changed jobs, it got me all out of shape. But it looks like it's going to work now.

ran 3 miles today, not too fast but no stops at all, after that took the bike to an empty parking lot next to the house to practice some spinning drills trying to get my cadence higher.

registered to another race today, now I have some more motivation to train. (5k run + 20m bike)

and that is all.

Excellent!

I'm going tomorrow after work to get my bike fitted.  I guess this takes awhile.  I'm hoping for great weather this weekend.  Maybe I'll get in my first outdoor ride on my new bike. Smile

Well, the puppy is a keeper!  We have named him Brutus and he just fits right in.  Took him out for a desert adventure yesterday and he spent most of his time trying to keep up with Lola.  Looks like two running buddies for me!  I'm taking him to the vet today to get him all checked out, etc.  I'm interested to find out just how big he might get...I'm thinking he is going to be one big boy.

Lots of great stuff going on for everyone!  Anyone racing this weekend?

What a cute puppy!  Enjoy your runs with him (and Lola)Smile.

No racing for me this weekend, but I am volunteering at a race.  It's a trail HM that I'm thinking about attempting next year.  I've never run on trails before but I'd like to give it a try.  I figure this is a good way to check out the course and the race for next year and help out at the same time.  Should be interesting.  The weather will be good but everything will probably be pretty muddy from the rain/snow we've had the last couple of days.  I'll have to dig out an old pair of shoes to wear.

I love trail races. They are tough on me, but I believe it makes me much stronger for regular ol' races with lots of flats.  Most runners I know love the trails.

Btw, I've got a race next week, the River City Half Marathon on 3/27.  It's not a trail run and I think it's pretty flat so I'm shooting for a PR.  Anything less than 1:49.50 would be nice, but I'd like to come in at 1:45.    Wish me luck!

Soccermom15- I've never done a trail race, but I love running on trails.  Trail running is so much easier on the joints!

ECPasos- Good luck with your HM, fingers crossed for a PR!

Inglesteechar - Congrats on the puppy!

Brutus, sweet!

I have a race this weekend! The new York 1/2 marathon... very excited and more nervous then I've been for other races probably because I never ran the full distance in a training run and I'm not going to be "racing" more like just finishing. I have no time goals... just want to attempt to enjoy it. Maybe i'll do another 1/2 in that fall and give myself more prep time.

Anyone racing this weekend?

Me!  Me!!  Pick me!!  Not on my calendar, but going to do a half-marathon on Sunday.  If I can duplicate last Sunday's run, I'll PR my HM distance by about 7 minutes.

Good luck to the racers this weekend!

I just got some bad news - the HM that I was planning to do in Sept has been canceledCry.  Apparently there were some differences with the organizers of the festival that goes on that weekend (the HM was part of the event).  I'm still hoping to do a fall half - I'll just have to find a different one.

There's a half (brutally hilly) here the Sunday after Labor Day.

Had my second opinion appt. today.  Liked this doc much better than the first.  In fact, I'm going to stick with him.

Anyway, he is not recommending surgery at this time.  YEAH! I actually have the start of arthritis in my hips which could have been a contributing factor in the development of the tear.  (So much for my plan of out lasting the competitionTongue out)  Going to have 8 weeks of PT with a very detailed protocol for the therapist to follow.  Have developed tendonitis as well.  Asked about ART in addition to the PT and he thought that could help.  No running, no cycling.

Last night I actually had a dream I was running. SIGH....
