Tons of sleep, lots of emergen-C, gallons of water didn't even kill the darn crud. Worse when the weather is as beautiful as it is. I am staying home from work today in an attempt to get better. No fun blowing my nose this much but rather do it in peace. Take care, you have plenty of time...no make ups, just pick it back up when your body is ready. I can't shake this rotten cold. Arg. Supposed to run 8+ today, and my chest hurts. No coughing or fever, but sore chest, headache, sore throat & congestion. And exhaustion....I even left the Sharks game early last night! What say you, wise MG? A look at my logs will show that I've slacked this week because of the bug - am I better off running through this today (and tomorrow) or throwing in the towel? 67 days from Boston.... |

Often at the end of the day I still need to be in the office but I have about an hour that I don't have much to do before I go home. Would it be a bad idea to leave my extra trainer and my Mountain bike at the office? Get a 45 to an hour Mountain bike trainner ride in before I head home? Or I might be better off to get a treadmill at the office. I sweat less on the treadmill. Tiana |

I don't know what your needs are, but depending on how much space you have and how long you'll keep it there, I'd lean towards the trainer. |

Today's run won't make or break Boston for you. But if you push it today and end up more sick, then it stands a bigger chance of really disrupting training. GET BETTER!!!!! And eat soup! 67 days is a lifetime. I agree with Kyla and John. My one other suggestion (said kindly) is start eating better Another vote for the rest! Get well Linda! |

I have wanted to take a certain photography class for 3 yrs. It has never worked out. This was to be the year. Then my husband decides he wantes to do a race the same weekend as the class (that is an hour from us). No problem. I book the Atlanta class. On my way this weekend. So excited. Fear = bike issues. I trust my body to do what I train it to do. So I feel I have control over that. But mechanical bike issues scare the heck out of me. So I am committed to "learn my bike" before Nov. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Photography class, huh? Sure you're not coming to run here? |

This one's for Suzy!!! Posted on my college swim team's FB page. Love it!! Isn't that the truth? If everything rewarding came in the comfort zone life would be too easy. Thanks Swim Mentor! David--I think you look very healthy. The real question is how you feel and train at that weight? If you're not frequently injured or tired, it's probably the place to be. Ignore those that have no clue! |

Extreme Veteran 668![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() NW Georgia | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN -CLOSED DUE TO TRAININGTen days into this month and my goals for the month are pretty much shot already. Between problems with my foot - all good now, btw - and now allegies, I can't seem to get any consistent training in. I swam yesterday morning despite my allergies and spent the rest of the day miserable because of it. I am supposed to run this evening, but I am thinking that may not be a good idea either at this point. So my question is this: Should I just scratch the last two weeks and pick back up with my training plan and go from there, or should I try to go back a week and skip the recovery week next week since I haven't really been building a base the last two weeks anyway? FYI, the plan is geared toward a sprint at the end of April. The last two weeks were listed as "base" with a recovery week coming next week. That would have me training the next four weeks in a row before another recovery week, (unless something else falls apart)?

I get this all the time in the land of Cheese, Brats and Beer. Like was said earlier, it's usually my signal that I am starting to get close to race weight. As long as you are not getting hurt or sick regularly, you are at the right weight. Sometimes your body is smarter than you give it credit for....... just smile and quietly ask them if maybe they are little FAT!!! Or buy one of these.... Edited by badgerintx 2012-02-10 12:43 PM |

I will have to leave that for some more experienced MGers to answer. I do have a question for the MG as well. I woke up with a HUGE and VISIBLE knot in my trapezius muscle (base of the neck on the shoulder, grossed out some CWers this morning). The swelling is raised at least a 1/2 inch in comparison to my other shoulder and about 2" x 3" in size . I can turn my head but the entire area is throbbing and painful to move my arms. Do I still try to run (45 min, Z2) or give it a rest? Edited by mighty mom 2012-02-10 11:21 AM |

How much time have you really lost (missed workouts)? If it is truly 10 days, I would back the whole thing up. Plans build and if you've missed base time you will be starting at a volume higher than you've trained for, right? I would play the recovery week by ear. If you need it after those two weeks, take it. As you can see, time off for injury/illness is way worse than time off for good behavior. |

I am taking one more day off just to get to 100% before I resume my normal workouts. David (ATL)-in the past, I would have tried to make up yesterday's bike this morning but now, I know skipping it and moving on is the best thing for me. Then again, I only missed a day, so it certainly wasn't ten days... I also have a recovery week next week and plan on following it, might be just what my body and mind need to get back at it. Complicating things, everything is blooming early around here due to our "Sprin-ter", spring-winter..(.our niece came up with that this weekend), anyhow, my allergies are wreaking havoc. I bet I didnt help you at all. David (AUSSIE)-last year at the peak of summer training, I got all those comments, including eating disorder ones, which were very insensitive. My response was usually to laugh it off, invite them to dinner or lunch so they could see me eat, etc. but I have to admit it sometimes bothered me, especially coming from family. I think you look great and agree with the thoughts regarding feeling strong and healthy as number one. Christina-that sounds CRAZY. That said, there are plenty of times my shoulders (rotator cuff usually) are crazy sore from swimming, but the running motion doesn't exacerbate it, so I run anyways. Did you sleep funny or was it from swimming? Kyla, very cool posting-btw, if this post formats with all of the correct paragraphs, I will be very happy!--thanks, John....and yes, rice porridge is Chinese AND soup! You both win. |

I have a tendency to get knots in my shoulders bc I keep stress in my shoulders and tend to do just about everything with tensed shoulders. It's a bad habit and I do try to catch myself but in periods of high stress I am more apt to get them. I could feel some knots developing early this week and then yesterday's two sets of 16x25yds @ 10s probably put me over the edge. This is the first time where its so big and visible but it still feels muscular. I have iced it (and might have given myself frost bite) and will continue to do so. I'll give the run a try at home. Hopefully some more stretching and a good warm up will help. |
