Sat 56mile ride at chilled(ish) pace then 20m run.  Sun 60mile chilled ride.  I got my first long run in last Sunday and it felt good - 21m round central park.

I was told it is key to get in a few of century rides in before the day which is fine cause i tended to do those before i ever considered doing an IM.  I`m sticking to the same marathon training plan i did for NYC last year.  A couple at the 20m mark (more to get the legs used to the pounding).  Next Sat is going to be the biggest day when i tackle the full bike and 1/2 marathon at Placid.

Any advice please (do not have a coach) and I tend to go off what I think and what I read.  Are these work outs too big?  I ran this past a mate who did Kona in 10hrs and he suggested that (for me and my goal) it was a good idea to get these BIG bricks in.   Anyone see anything wrong with this plan?  I listen to my body.  Come race day i`m aiming for a 12-13 hr day.  I know we have individual goals so i`m giving you mine to add perspective to my specific question.  Not trying to deter anyone from their individual plans.

your logs are empty.....hard to say if its too much without having an idea of what you;ve been consistently doing.

I would think you'd be OK......dont be affraid to break them up....bike the full loop, rest (eat+nap) than run.

I dont think you need a 2 hour run off a 112 mile bike in training.....if you are going to run 2 hours, run fresh as to get the most benefit from it.

now is the time to look at what you have been doing, add in some race specific intensity and staying consistent.

nothing wrong with an 8-10 hour day, provided it doesnt shell you and take 5-7 days to get back to normal training.

A solid x2 on that, cuse- I know a lot of folks that do such a thing, but for me personally that would be a recipe for a disastrous injury. For every workout I do I want to know specifically the reason I am doing it. The only reason I would see for doing those kind of big bricks is to boost confidence in completing the distance - not to build fitness, for me personally they just tear me down too much and turn the rest of the week into junk miles/hours. The risk is just not worth it to me personally, but YMMV.

Put my logs up for the past few months...   clearly i do not swim enough!!!!!!!   All my running and riding tends to be at (uh oh - please do not beat me up) at the same pace...   I push my HR up on the hills and when riding CP i push the hills.  Ave riding speed is about 18mph on the average 56mile route (2.54 for Rev 3 cause i was on a  tri bike) and i run 7.30m/m up to 10miles and 8m/m up to 20miles....

I am a "little" inexperienced and cetainly do not do enough interval training.  3 HIMs last year and got better each one.  Was pretty happy with Rev 3 this year 35min / 2.54 / 1.44 total 5.24.  That is my only 4 tris....

I think i have opened myself up to - mate, you have no idea how to train efficiently.  You just go out for long rides and runs to log up the hours when you should be doign more focused training.

peewee - 2011-06-17 9:25 AM So what is everyone doing this weekend.  I am going for a 100 mile ride followed by a 45 min run.  At least that is the plan.  Then doing a long run Sunday AM

The rains relented this morning and I got an 18-mile run in.  Sunday I'm aiming for between 100 and 112 on the bike with a short 5-mile transition Run.  It's time for the 'big boy' workouts

We are training while they are posting. 170 pages of blah, blah, blah. Maybe they need all that hot air to stay warm during the swim.

That's right, I'm talkin' smack.

Maybe we should let them know we are talking smack about them in the LP group and trick them into retaliating in this thread. Totally help us get our post count up.

While we are all out training, of course.

Gosh Know!! They are all suffering from acute TAPER MADNESS right now!!!  Rule # 13C:  Never screw with a triathlete during an Ironman Taper!!

I think 1/4 of their pages are ego-driven arguments about who's training philosophy is better.  So yeah, lots of hot air and blah, blah, blah blah blah-blah-blah

TankBoy - 2011-06-17 2:12 PM Hey peewee, I am pretty fortunate in that I can get all my volume in during the week, so that lets me have somewhat of a "normal person" weekend. I raced last weekend, so that did shift my week a little bit, so on Saturday I have 3 hour hilly bike @ 75% FTP followed by a 1:15 endurance-pace hilly run. Sunday is an off day!

Have a good Sunday off, Rusty.

Hey Peeps...sound like you'll be busy this weekend.  I have reached the hardest week in this training in that it has to be a high volume week but I have to work all weekend Cry (and when I say work that might mean being up for three nights!!) BUT I am so proud of myself.... logs show 18.5 hours since Sunday, yippee!!!.. So psyched I got it done.  Took day off yesterday, so glad I did.

Good luck

I got my MOJO back this morning.  My last few weeks I have been training but  I just have felt beat down during each workout.  Raced Kansas last weekend and maybe it set me on fire.  Had my first 100 mile ride this morning and I was surprised how good my legs felt.  I did a slow brick run (45:00) on some new trails nearby where I biked and my legs felt like they were ready to fire off, I was pumped up on the way home.  I kept the first half of my ride conservative cause I was a little nervous about 100 miles by myself, but around mile 70 my body just kinda woke up and said you got this and I picked up the pace the rest of the way.  I believe I averaged around 18.6 for the ride and I fully expected to be in the 17's.  Hopefully the next months training will go this good.

Our page count will get there. Totally bummed about my main workout today up here in Placid. I was starting my second loop of the bike, and broke a spoke on my rear wheel going across the bridge by River Rd. It was a beautiful day up here today too, high 70's clear sky's, but the wind was pretty wicked on the last 10 miles. Right in your face... if the cherries and bears weren't enough, that just added insult to it. Oh well, glad this happened during training, and hope it doesn't during the race. At least I can say that Mirror Lake has been pleasant to swim in.

Good to see some people are getting their energy back in them.

Tough day for me yesterday.  Had a 110+mile ride scheduled but had a bad crash.  Was going over a drawbridge here in Annapolis and the metal was wet...wheel turned and did a face plant into the steel bridge flooring.  Cheek and right side of body all banged.  That I'll recover from ok.  The worse part is a broken bone in my right hand (4th metacarpal) and dislocated thumb in left hand (carpometacarpal joint).  Will have to see what the hand surgeon says this week but LP looking doubtful.    Will try to see if I can swim in casts and just try to finish the race.  Feeling a little bummed today but nevertheless thankful that it wasn't much worse.

Bad luck.  You've done all you can but the rest is out of your hands for a while.

I've been struggling with long rides for the past few weeks.  I just can't seem to find saddle bliss.  I went from a stock Felt addle to an Adamo Road in Dec to a Cobb V-Flow Max 3 weeks ago to a Fizik Arione Tri 2 yesterday.  The Adamo and Max are just too wide and give me saddle sores right at my leg pit(running shorts ow cause friction in that spot as well).  I use quality chamois creams and I've got a decent fit.  I just ordered a pair of DeSoto 400 mile bibs yesterday based on countless good reviews.  I'm hoping that a combination of those and the Arione might make riding 100 miles at least in the realm of possibility.
